Abstract

In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the reduction of energy consumption in the batteries of a sensor node is an important task. Sensor nodes of WSNs perform three significant functions such as data sensing, data transmitting and data relaying. Routing technique is one of the methods to enhance the sensor nodes battery lifetime. Energy optimization is done by using one of the heuristic routing methods for sensing and transmitting the data. To enhance the energy optimization mainly concentrated on data relaying. In this work stochastic hill climbing is adapted. The proposed solution for data relaying utilizes geographical routing and mobile sink technique. The sink collects the data from cluster heads and movement of the sink is routed by stochastic hill climbing. Network simulator 2 is used for experimentation purpose. This work also compares with the existing routing protocols like Energy-efficient Low Duty Cycle (ELDC), Threshold sensitive Energy Efficient sensor Network (TEEN) and Adaptive clustering protocol. The proposed work shows promising results with respect to lifetime, average energy of nodes and packet delivery ratio.

Abstract

Botnet-based attack is dangerous and extremely difficult to overcome as all the primary mitigation methods are passive and limited in focus. A combine efforts of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are better guides since they can monitor the traffic that traverse through their networks. However, ISPs are not legally banded to this role and may not view security as a primary concern. Towards understudying the involvement of ISPs in Botnet mitigation in Nigeria, this study elicited and summarized mitigation measures from scientific literatures to create a reference model which was validated by structured interview. Although, ISPs role is seen to be voluntary and poorly incentivized, the providers still take customers security very serious but concentrate more on preventive and notification measures.

Abstract

No doubt that data security online is crucial. Therefore, great attention has been paid to that aspect by companies and organizations given its economic and social implications. Thus, online certificate status protocol (OCSP) is considered one of the most prominent protocol functioning in this field, which offers a prompt support for certificates online. In this research, a model designed based on field programable gate array (FPGA) using Merkel’s tree has been proposed to overcome the delay that might have occurred in sorting and authentication of certificates. Having adopted this model and with the assistance of Hash function algorithm, more than 50% of certificates have been processed in comparison with standard protocol. Moreover, certificates have been provided with substantial storage space with high throughput. Basically, Hash function algorithm has been designed to arrange and specify a site of verified or denied certificates within time of validity to protect servers from intrusion and clients from using applications with harmful contents.

Abstract

The deficiencies of regular cooperative relaying schemes were the main reason behind the development of Incremental Relaying (IR). Fixed relaying is one of the regular cooperative relaying schemes and it relies on using the relay node to help in transmitting the signal of the source towards the destination despite the channel’s condition. However, adaptive relaying methods allocate the channel resources efficiently; thus, such methods have drawn the attention of researchers in recent years. In this study, we analyze a two-hop Decode-and-Forward (DF) IR system’s performance via Nakagami-m fading channels with the existence of the several L distinguishable interferers placed close to the destination which diminishes the overall performance of the system due to the co-channel interference. Tight formulas for the Bit Error Rate (BER) and the Outage Probability (OP) are drawn. The assumptions are consolidated by numerical calculations.

Abstract

Deaf people suffer from difficulty in social communication, especially those who have been denied the blessing of hearing before the acquisition of spoken language and before learning to read and write. For the purpose of employing mobile devices for the benefit of these people, their teachers and everyone who has contact with them, this research aims to design an application for social communication and learning by translating Iraqi sign language into text in Arabic and vice versa. Iraqi sign language has been chosen because of a lack of applications for this field. The current research, to the best of our knowledge, is the first of its kind in Iraq. The application is open source; words that are not found in the application database can be processed by translating them into letters alphabetically. The importance of the application lies in the fact that it is a means of communication and e-learning through Iraqi sign language, reading and writing in Arabic. Similarly, it is regarded as a means of social communication between deaf people and those with normal hearing. This application is designed by using JAVA language and it was tested on several deaf students at Al-Amal Institute for Special Needs Care in Mosul, Iraq. It was well comprehended and accepted.

Abstract

Due to the misdiagnose of diseases that increased recently in a scarily manner, many researchers devoted their efforts and deployed technologies to improve the medical diagnosis process and reducing the resulted risk. Accordingly, this paper proposed architecture of a cyber-medicine service for medical diagnosis, based internet of things (IoT) and cloud infrastructure (IaaS). This service offers a shared environment for medical data, and extracted knowledge and findings between patients and doctors in an interactive, secured, elastic and reliable way. It predicts the medical diagnosis and provides an appropriate treatment for the given symptoms and medical conditions based on multiple classifiers to assure high accuracy. Moreover, it entails different functionalities such as on-demand searching for scientific papers and diseases description for unrecognized combination of symptoms using web crawler to enrich the results. Where such searching results from crawler, are processed, analyzed and added to the resident knowledge base (KB) to achieve adaptability and subsidize the service predictive ability.

Abstract

As an up-and-coming branch of the internet of things, internet of vehicles (IoV) is imagined to fill in as a fundamental information detecting and processing platform for astute transportation frameworks. Today, vehicles are progressively being associated with the internet of things which empower them to give pervasive access to data to drivers and travelers while moving. Be that as it may, as the quantity of associated vehicles continues expanding, new prerequisites, (for example, consistent, secure, vigorous, versatile data trade among vehicles, people, and side of the road frameworks) of vehicular systems are developing. Right now, the unique idea of vehicular specially appointed systems is being changed into another idea called the internet of vehicles (IoV). We talk about the issues faced in implementing a secure IoV architecture. We examine the various challenges in implementing security and privacy in IoV by reviewing past papers along with pointing out research gaps and possible future work and putting forth our on inferences relating to each paper.

Abstract

Bearings are essential components in the most electrical equipment. Procedures for monitoring the condition of bearings must be developed to prevent unexpected failure of these components during operation to avoid costly consequences. In this paper, the design of a monitoring system for the detection of rolling element-bearings failure is proposed. The method for detecting and locating this type of fault is carried out using advanced intelligent techniques based on a Perceptron Multilayer Artificial Neural Network (MLP-ANN); its database uses statistical indicators characterizing vibration signals. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated using experimentally obtained bearing vibration data, and the results have shown good accuracy in detecting and locating defects.

Abstract

Several wireless technologies have recently emerged to enable efficient and scalable internet-of-things (IoT) networking. Cognitive radio (CR) technology, enabled by software-defined radios, is considered one of the main IoT-enabling technologies that can provide opportunistic wireless access to a large number of connected IoT devices. An important challenge in this domain is how to dynamically enable IoT transmissions while achieving efficient spectrum usage with a minimum total power consumption under interference and traffic demand uncertainty. Toward this end, we propose a dynamic bandwidth/channel/power allocation algorithm that aims at maximizing the overall network’s throughput while selecting the set of power resulting in the minimum total transmission power. This problem can be formulated as a two-stage binary linear stochastic programming. Because the interference over different channels is a continuous random variable and noting that the interference statistics are highly correlated, a suboptimal sampling solution is proposed. Our proposed algorithm is an adaptive algorithm that is to be periodically conducted over time to consider the changes of the channel and interference conditions. Numerical results indicate that our proposed algorithm significantly increases the number of simultaneous IoT transmissions compared to a typical algorithm, and hence, the achieved throughput is improved.

Abstract

This paper presents the development of a system of comparison between words spoken and written by means of deep learning techniques. There are used 10 words acquired by means of an audio function and, these same words, are written by hand and acquired by a webcam, in such a way as to verify if the two data match and show whether or not it is the required word. For this, 2 different CNN architectures were used for each function, where for voice recognition, a suitable CNN was used to identify complete words by means of their features obtained with mel frequency cepstral coefficients, while for handwriting, a faster R-CNN was used, so that it both locates and identifies the captured word. To implement the system, an easy-to-use graphical interface was developed, which unites the two neural networks for its operation. With this, tests were performed in real-time, obtaining a general accuracy of 95.24%, allowing showing the good performance of the implemented system, adding the response speed factor, being less than 200 ms in making the comparison.
