Abstract

Target tracking is essential for localization and many other applications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Kalman filter is used to reduce measurement noise in target tracking. In this research TelosB motes are used to measure Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI). RSSI measurement doesn’t require any external hardware compare to other distance estimation methods such as Time of Arrival (TOA), Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) and Angle of Arrival (AoA). Distances between beacon and non-anchor nodes are estimated using the measured RSSI values. Position of the non-anchor node is estimated after finding the distance between beacon and non-anchor nodes. A new algorithm is proposed with Kalman filter for location estimation and target tracking in order to improve localization accuracy called as MoteTrack InOut system. This system is implemented in real time for indoor and outdoor tracking. Localization error reduction obtained in an outdoor environment is 75%.

Abstract

The prediction of the use of electric power is very important to maintain a balance between the supply and demand of electric power in the power generation system. Due to a fluctuating of electrical power demand in the electricity load center, an accurate forecasting method is required to maintain the efficiency and reliability of power generation system continuously. Such conditions greatly affect the dynamic stability of power generation systems. The objective of this research is to propose Double Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (DSARIMA) to predict electricity load. Half hourly load data for of three years period at PT. PLN Gresik Indonesia power plant unit are used as case study. The parameters of DSARIMA model are estimated by using least squares method. The result shows that the best model to predict these data is subset DSARIMA with order ([1,2,7,16,18,35,46],1,[1,3,13,21,27,46])(1,1,1)48(0,0,1)336 with MAPE about 2.06%. Thus, future research could be done by using these predictive results as models of optimal control parameters on the power system side.

Abstract

This paper describes one practical approach that suggests a model based technique to control in real time the relative humidity under greenhouse. The humidity level is one of the most difficult environmental factors to be regulated in greenhouse. Moreover, maintaining and correcting for more or less humidity can be a challenge for even the most sophisticated monitoring and control equipment. For these raisons, a Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller for relative humidity regulation under greenhouse turns out to be useful. Indeed a LQG controller is proposed for a relative humidity under a greenhouse control task. So, the state space model, which is best fitting the acquired data, was identified using the Numerical Subspace State Space System IDentification (N4SID) algorithm. The mathematical model that is obtained will be used for evaluating the parameters of LQG strategy. The proposed controller is implemented in two steps, in one hand, Kalman filter (KF) is used to develop an observer that estimates the state of relative humidity under greenhouse. In the other hand, the state feedback controller gain is estimated using a linear quadratic criterion function. The suggested optimal implemented controller using Matlab/Simulink environment is applied to an experimental greenhouse. We found, according to the results, that the controller is able to lead the inside relative humidity to the desired value with high accuracy, regardless of the external disturbances.

Abstract

Intelligence study is one of keystone to distinguish individual differences in cognitive psychology. Conventional psychometric tests are limited in terms of assessment time, and existence of biasness issues. Apart from that, there is still lack in knowledge to classify IQ based on EEG signals and intelligent signal processing (ISP) technique. ISP purpose is to extract as much information as possible from signal and noise data using learning and/or other smart techniques. Therefore, as a first attempt in classifying IQ feature via scientific approach, it is important to identify a relevant technique with prominent paradigm that is suitable for this area of application. Thus, this article reviews several ISP approaches to provide consolidated source of information. This in particular focuses on prominent paradigm that suitable for pattern classification in biomedical area. The review leads to selection of ANN since it has been widely implemented for pattern classification in biomedical engineering.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the design and fabrication of dual band antenna for UHF RFID and ISM RFID applications. The U-shaped patch loaded with dipole is introduced and investigated. The antenna can be performed dual-band frequencies at 0.915 GHz and 2.4 GHz required in RFID applications with reflection coefficient is less than -10 dB. The lower band can be varied by adjusting both dipole arms length and upper band is tuned by U-shaped patches. The gains of the design with a size 130   45  1.6 mm3  are performed 1.89 dB and 3.65 dB for single and dual band respectively. This compact and low cost dual band antenna also performed total efficiency greater than 80%. The design methodology and antenna measurement results are both presented and discussed in this letter.

Abstract

Cyclic Redundancy Codes (CRCs) are important for maintaining integrity in data transmissions. CRC performance is mainly affected by the polynomial chosen. Recent increases in data throughput require a foray into determining optimal polynomials through software or hardware implementations. Most CRC implementations in use, offer less than optimal performance or are inferior to their newer published counterparts. Classical approaches to determining optimal polynomials involve brute force based searching a population set of all possible polynomials in that set. This paper evaluates performance of CRC-polynomials generated with Genetic Algorithms. It then compares the resultant polynomials, both with and without encryption headers against a benchmark polynomial.

Abstract

Usage of grayscale format of radiological images is proportionately more as compared to that of colored one. This format of medical image suffers from all the possibility of improper clinical inference which will lead to error-prone analysis in further usage of such images in disease detection or classification. Therefore, we present a framework that offers single-window operation with a set of image enhancing algorithm meant for further optimizing the visuality of medical images. The framework performs preliminary pre-processing operation followed by implication of linear and non-linear filter and multi-level image enhancement processes. The significant contribution of this study is that it offers a comprehensive mechanism to implement the various enhancement schemes in highly discrete way that offers potential flexibility to physical in order to draw clinical conclusion about the disease being monitored. The proposed system takes the case study of brain tumor to implement to testify the framework.
