<![CDATA[Language has a very important role in human life. As a tool for communication, language can be used in various ways, including through literary works in the form of novels. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the discourse of the characters in the novel "Dua Garis Biru" constructed by the author at the textual level (macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure), social cognition, and social context. The approach used includes a methodological approach, namely descriptive qualitative, and a theoretical approach, namely Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. The results of the study showed that the topic discussed was promiscuity by a pair of teenagers. The grooves used are mixed grooves. The parts of the text that are arranged as a whole form a scheme or plot from beginning to end in each chapter. The meaning to be conveyed by the author is displayed through the background, details, presuppositions, and intentions. The rhetorical elements of Van Dijk's discourse are graphics and metaphors. Social cognition consists of elements of knowledge and opinion or prejudice; presenting knowledge in each context of events according to knowledge in a particular field and the opinion or prejudice of the author is shown by conveying the author's opinion directly to the reader and providing an assessment of what is happening. The author gives an assessment of what is happening. Analysis of the social context of the novel "Dua Garis Biru" is related to the problem of school-age juvenile delinquency, women's reproductive health and the problem of female domination. Basically, this problem existed before the novel was published by the writer who saw this problem as a material conflict in it.]]>

<![CDATA[Homecoming or mudik is a massive mobility culture of inter-city and inter-provincial residents within a certain period of time carried out by Muslims in Indonesia. Therefore, in an effort to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the period leading up to Eid al-Fitr, the government made an effort to ban homecoming in 2021. This statement was first conveyed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, which was conveyed through the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel. The purpose of this study is to explore the types and functions of directive speech acts through a critical pragmatic approach. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative which uses listening and note-taking techniques. The data that has been collected is then analyzed using a critical pragmatic approach. The results of this study indicate that the directive speech acts in the prohibition of homecoming are conveyed there are three types of speech acts that are found in the speech produced by President Joko Widodo, Chairman of the Covid-19 Task Force Doni Monardo, Deputy Secretary General of PBNU Andi Najmi Fuadi, and General Secretary Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu'ti, namely; 1) The directive speech act appeals, 2) The directive speech act prohibits, and 3) The directive speech act commands. Of the three types of speech acts found, there are two types of clauses used to perform directive speech acts, namely; 1) Declarative clauses and 2) Imperative clauses. From the statements made by the President, the Covid-19 Task Force, and several religious figures, there is a good synergy so that the statement has the same purpose and function.]]>

<![CDATA[One of the novels about capitalism is a novel entitled Langkah Sejuta Suluh by Clara Ng. The main character in the novel has a high spirit of capitalism to achieve success. The main character named Merry managed to change the lower class's fate because his hard work turned into the upper class. This study aims to determine the characteristics of capitalism in the main character in Clara Ng's novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh. The researcher uses a theoretical approach in the form of literary sociology theory and Marx's theory of capitalism, as well as a qualitative descriptive methodological approach. The data collection technique of this research used heuristic techniques. The data analysis technique used is hermeneutic. Researchers used triangulation techniques for data validity, namely different data collection techniques to obtain data from the same source. The analysis results show that (1) the ideological characteristics of the main character in the novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh by Clara Ng are competition (competition) to become the best employee and pursue personal gain. (2) The practice of capitalism ideology in Clara Ng's novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh, Merry works for others and dares to earn money. (3) The social class of the main character, namely Merry, has changed due to his efforts and hard work so that those who were originally from the lower class turned into the upper class. Novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh karya Clara Ng berisi tentang motivasi meraih financial sebelum umur 30 tahun yang merupakan sebuah cerminan dari apa yang ada dalam masyarakat pada masa itu. Hal ini tidak terlepas dari pergulatan utama manusia yaitu kebutuhan untuk memenuhi materialnya. Pergulatan itu membawa manusia berhadapan dengan alam sebagai sumber pemenuhan kebutuhan. Agar kebutuhannya terpenuhi, manusia dituntut untuk melakukan transformasi terhadap alam. Usaha-usaha transformasi tersebut membuahkan teknologi dan hubungan-hubungan sosial. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis ciri kapitalisme pada tokoh utama dalam novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh karya Clara Ng. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi sastra dan teori kapitalisme serta pendekatan metodologis deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan teknik heuristik. Peneliti menggunakan teknik trianggulasi sebagai validitas data, yaitu teknik pengumpulan data yang berbeda-beda untuk medapatkan data dari sumber yang sama. Analisis data yang penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis semiotik Lotman dan teknik analisis data dialektik. Hasil analisis penelitian adalah (1) ciri ideologi tokoh utama dalam novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh karya Clara Ng. (2) praktik ideologi kapitalisme dalam novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh karya Clara Ng, dan (3) hubungan ideologi kapitalisme di dalam teks dan di luar teks dalam novel Langkah Sejuta Suluh karya Clara Ng. The novel Step a Million Suluh by Clara Ng contains the motivation to achieve financial success before the age of 30 which is a reflection of what existed in society at that time. This is inseparable from the main struggle of humans, namely the need to fulfill their material needs. This struggle brings humans to face nature as a source of fulfillment of needs. In order for their needs to be fulfilled, humans are required to transform nature. These transformation efforts produce technology and social relations. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of capitalism in the main character in the novel Step a Million Suluh by Clara Ng. The researcher uses a sociological approach to literature and capitalism theory as well as a qualitative descriptive methodological approach. The data collection technique in this research used heuristic techniques. Researchers used triangulation techniques as data validity, namely different data collection techniques to obtain data from the same source. The data analysis used in this research is Lotman's semiotic analysis technique and dialectical data analysis technique. The results of the research analysis are (1) the ideological characteristics of the main character in the novel Step Sejuta Suluh by Clara Ng. (2) the practice of capitalism ideology in Clara Ng's novel Step Sejuta Suluh, and (3) the relationship between the ideology of capitalism in the text and outside the text in Clara Ng's novel Step Sejuta Suluh.]]>

<![CDATA[The novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari is a literary work as a form of culture that describes the life of the Bajo people, especially the Sama village. The people still hold fast and believe in the myths that exist in the sea they live. Based on this statement, this study aimed to find the myths that are built in the plot, characters, and setting of the story. This study used an objective approach with Levi-Strauss' semiotic structuralism theory. The data of this research was a text that contained elements of plot, characters, and setting of the story. The data source of this research was the novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari. The results showed that the novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari contained a sea myth that was built on elements of plot, character, and story setting. (1) The storyline of the novel was divided into five episodes and there were 18 mythemes from each episode. (2) The myth was built into several characters, those were the characters of Bambulo, Lummu, the Masalembo Residents (Sam, Ship Captain, Aldio, Mama Lia), and RORO. These characters were related to each other regarding the existence of a sea myth in the novel. (3) The setting of the story described the Atoll and Masalembo which had a mystery.]]>

<![CDATA[The story of Blora by Pramudya Ananta Toer is a short story that describes the social reality of the people of Blora. The short story tells about the condition of the people of Blora during the colonial era who experienced poverty. Poverty is one of the factors in the condition of society that gives rise to social crimes. This study aims to reveal the facts of social problems that occur in the Blora community and find ways to overcome these social problems. This study uses a descriptive method with a sociological approach to the theory of Wellek and Warren. The data of this research are in the form of words, sentences, or dialogues that contain the facts of the story on the plot characters and the background about poverty and social crime in the short story entitled Stories from Blora by Pramudya Ananta Toer. The data collection technique was carried out by means of heuristic reading which included classifying, analyzing, and interpreting the data. The results showed that the descriptions of poverty and social crimes contained in the short stories appeared to occur in real terms in the Blora community. Both problems arise because of a causal relationship. Poor conditions in a society will lead to any crime to fulfill their needs. The benefit of the research is as an addition to knowledge to the reader regarding solving the problem of poverty and social crime in the Blora community.]]>

<![CDATA[Partikel is a novel about the struggles of Zarah and her friends on a nature saving mission. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ecological crisis, the impact of the ecological crisis, and the values of ecocentrism in the novel Partikel. The data collection method used is the first level semiotic reading method, namely by heuristic reading with a literary ecocritical research approach according to Garrad and Glotfelty. The results of the first study include the ecological crisis in forests and animals. Then the results of the second study were to find the impact of the ecological crisis that occurred in the Tanjung Puting Forest in Kalimantan, and the pollution of the Sekonyer river in Kalimantan. The ecocentrism values contained in the Partikel novel include saving forests as a form of responsibility towards nature, ecological ethics in the exploitation of natural resources, wildlife conservation park campaigns as a form of concern to nature and live in harmony with nature. The benefit of research is as an addition to knowledge to readers regarding the ecological crisis in nature and the impact that will be experienced by society.]]>

<![CDATA[In Maman Suherman's novels, there are inner conflicts of the main characters. Sources of data used in this study are novels by Maman Suherman entitled Re, Perempuan, and Bapakku Indonesia. The purpose of this study is divided into three analyzes, namely (a) a description of the inner conflict of the main character in Maman Suherman's novels, (b) the cause of the inner conflict of the main character in Maman Suherman's novels, (c) resolving the inner conflict of the main character in the novel. - a novel by Maman Suherman. The qualitative descriptive method of Kurt Lewin's theory uses a hermeneutic approach. Based on the results of data analysis obtained; (a) Re novel consists of four inner conflicts, first there are two events with an (approach-approach conflict). The second, third, and fourth inner conflicts are three events with an (approach-avoidance conflict), (b) the novel Perempuan which consists of three conflicts, namely the approach-away inner conflict consisting of one event. The second is the near-distant conflict where there is one event. The third conflict is moving away, there is one event, (c) the novel Bapakku Indonesia, consists of three inner conflicts. The first is a close-away conflict consisting of one event. The second and third inner conflicts are (apporach-approach conflicts) which have one event each.]]>

<![CDATA[Social media in its use nowadays does not only just pack information, but also provides opportunities to produce information and disseminate information. Furthermore, social media users have the right to choose, determine, and create informative messages or points of view they want; social media may now be a part of human existence and has been consumed massively including Youtube which is one of the most popular social media platforms. However, it cannot be denied that the function of social media can be likened to a double-edged sword; on the one hand it can be used for big activities, but on the other hand it can be used for bad things and is detrimental to society. The problem in this research was "How is the form of hate speech in the viewers’ comments column of the YouTube channel on the topic of Puan Maharani in 2019?". The research design used a qualitative research design that was descriptive with research data using commentary data. This study used transcription techniques and note-taking techniques. The results showed that the highest number of utterances was 300 utterances containing hate speech, nine forms of hate speech were obtained. Of the nine forms of hate speech that were considered to be the style of speech that was widely used by the public in conveying comments on social media. The form of the utterance was a form of hate speech, as much as 96.67% of assertive speech acts.]]>

<![CDATA[Elements are important parts of a literary work. An element functions to build a framework in a literary work, for instance, the character element contained in the Bekisar Merah novel by Ahmad Tohari. The main character in this novel is a female. Her name is Lasi. A female main character is also found in the Jatisaba novel by Ramayda Akmal. Her name is Maemunah. It shows that the element in the Bekisar Merah novel and the Jatisaba novel is similar. This element is especially in the aspect of the character. The objective of this study is to find out similarities and differences related to the elements contained in the Jatisaba novel and the Bekisar Merah novel. An intertextual and a structural approach were applied in this study. The data were collected through structural methods and semiotic reading methods. The data in this study are in the form of fragments of text of the Jatisaba novel and the Bekisar Merah novel. Data analysis was carried out by using structural methods and semiotic methods. The results show that there are similarities related to the elements between the two novels. These elements include theme, character, setting, and plot. In addition, there are also differences between the two novels related to the theme, character, setting, and point of view. This research is beneficial for the community to find out the relationship between novels.]]>

<![CDATA[Instagram video content that contains speech is included in a new pattern of social media interaction. As a part of the pattern of social interaction, speech in Instagram video content needs to be analyzed for its implications. The purpose of this study was to find out the implicatures in Indonesian-language content made by foreign speakers on social media of Instragram. The content of Indonesian speech made by foreign speakers is quite varied, such as comedy content, culinary arts, family life, and other social activities. Some of the social media contents of foreign speakers that currently available has a tendency to not consider the moral burden of using Indonesian speech. This tendency appears as an implicature concept that needs to be investigated at the pragmatic level of Indonesian speech. This study used two approaches, those were a theoretical approach and a methodological approach. The theoretical approach chosen was a pragmatic theory approach to analyze speech implicatures using Grice's theory. The methodological approach used in this research was a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. The results of this study were implicatures of five utterances from four foreign speakers who had different characteristics of the Instagram video content they made. The implicatures contained in the five utterances were 3 in the conventional implicature category, 2 in the unconventional implicature category, and 1 in the presuppositional implicature category.]]>
