Abstract

This article examines morphological process on payandra used by pranata adiacara. This study was done through a survey to pranata adiacara in Trenggalek and Tulungagung surroundings, small districts in East Java- Indonesia, in order to get underlying basis of processes of morphological on Javanese style which are influential toward their language style used in Javanese marriage ceremonies. The instrument- interview & documentation were developed in accordance to get the morphological processes and payandra used by pranata adiacara. The study reveals that payandra and processes of morphological on Javanese style used by pranata adiacara are divided into including 2 two main types: 1) Affixation (a. Internal change, b.Prefixation ; 2) Non Affixation: a.Compounding, b.Borrowing, c. Blending, d.Backformation, e. Reduplication, f. Clipping and the words used by pranata adiacara in sentences. Finally, the results of this study offers language phenomena arises because of some reasons which are mainly useful for those conducting communication among pranata adiacara  and the audiences to  figure out how beautiful and handsome  of the bridge and bridgroom and the values of wishes in conducting traditional ceremonies and those who are concerned in investigating panyandra words and metaphors used by  pranata adiacara or other varities as well as suggestions for future research.

Abstract

The present paper is a report on a small classroom based research study. The researcher has tried Activating Background Knowledge as a strategy to improve reading comprehension skills of the students in the First Year B.Com. Classroom in a degree college affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The teacher-researcher assigned two passages dealing with two different social issues and set in two different contexts, i.e., foreign and local, for comprehension to the students in the classroom. The classroom experience indicated that activating and building on the students’ background knowledge did help in facilitating their reading comprehension skills. The paper thus recommends it as an effective strategy to develop the students’ reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

The implementation of technology in classrooms affords educators more opportunities to work better in their lessons. However, there are numerous distinctive barriers that might prevent teachers from making use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their teaching practices. Admittedly, studying the obstacles to the integration of technology in schools would be an important step in developing the quality of teaching. The primary objective of this study is to discover the barriers that stop university language teachers from using ICT in teaching. In this study the questionnaire is employed as data collection instrument. The questionnaire addresses only university English language teachers. Forty-six university English language teachers are chosen from two universities: Moulay Ismail University Faculty of Arts and Humanities – Meknes and Sidi Mohamed Ben AbdellahDahr – El Mahraz – Fes as a case study. So as to analyze the data from the questionnaire, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19 is employed. The research findings reveal that Moroccan university English language teachers face multiple barriers such as large classes, lack of computers, lack of Internet and insufficient technical support that prevent them from using ICT in their teaching practices.

Abstract

The age we live in is characterized by a constant flow of information and an ever changing set of skills. Such change produces new challenges for teachers and places new obligations on them. Research also shows that teaching quality is paramount for student success. Teachers are thus required to update their knowledge and refine their teaching skills. The present paper argues for the relevance of Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development (ZPD) to teacher education. More specifically, it makes the point that teachers in the new millennium are called upon more than ever before to extend their ZPDs in order to help their students learn effectively in an age pregnant with new challenges. Starting with a brief overview of the concept of ZPD, the paper moves to argue for its application to teacher education. It also unveils the different stages of developing the ZPTD (zone of proximal teacher development), and the characteristics of proximal teacher development that are bound to impact positively on student learning. It ends with practical suggestions that can improve the ZPTD, like participating in conferences, joining teacher associations, and being involved in action research.

Abstract

This paper focuses on language use and discoursal strategies in an Islamic boys camp and draws from theoretical frameworks such as the ethnography of speaking, conversation analysis and discourse analysis as a means to examine the phenomena of religious mentoring and socialization.   The article found that mentees were socialized through senior peers’ linguistic strategies such as language choice and code-switching and discoursal strategies such as humor, mock-demonstrations  – all of which played a major role in building solidarity, group support and brotherly bonding.
