Abstract

Having lack of motivation and low intelligence have often been considered as sources of students' failures in Reading Subject.  Such this unfair judgement on the parts of the lecturers remains in its existence in many colleges and universities although dozens of approaches and methodologies have long exalted through Communicative Language Teaching principles.  The current study tries to elaborate some interrelated factors that influenced students' achievement in Reading Instruction at the English Tadris Department.  Clear vision as reflected in the planning and instructional program is considered to be the primary importance to accomplish successful teaching.Some basic theoretical frameworks as well as the most current trends in our educational practices are presented to picture students' progress.  Finally, with a more interactive classes depicted to upgrade students' imaginations, the writer comes to the conclusion that students' success in reading depends largely on how the teacher/ instructor play his/her roles as a manager,a  motivator, a supervisor, and as a teacher

Abstract

Siswa bertanya dalam interaksi kelas merupakan bagian dari kerangka pengajaran bahasa yang komunikatif, akan tetapi banyak siswa sekolah menengah yang segan dan takut untuk bertanya dalam interaksi di dalam kelas. Oleh sebab itu penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang digunakan siswa d dalam kelas.Populasi penelitian ini adalah selueuh siswa SMA di kota Padang. Hasil analisis data memperlihatkan bahwa persentase pertanyaan yang digunakan siswa dalam suasana formal di dalam kelas sangat rendah sementara dalam suasana informal lebih tinggi dari suasana formal. Oleh sebab itu, guru harus menciptakan suasana yang dapat membuat siswa untuk berinteraksi di dalam kelas.

Abstract

People necessitate English is not only as a prestige, but it is a compulsory to be able to master English due to certain field. It can be noticed that today people need English for academic and job’s need level. This research reveals the correlation of English materials with academic and job’s need of students of Tata Boga UNP Padang. The correlation covers; English skills, provided topics, and the function of topics to support life skill of the graduates. For research’s execution, researchers use descriptive design. The populations are academic staffs, hotel and restaurant’ waiters/ress in Padang. The research finding shows that the those occupations in Padang need the workers who are able to master four integrated skills in English namely Listening, Speaking, reading, and writing. In fact the focus of English learning and teaching process at Tata Boga UNP is still limited on speaking.
