Abstract

This article is a development research that aims to develop teaching-based writing materials in the process of producing a genre in the form of exposition hortatory. In this study also estimated the level of validity, practicality and effectiveness of teaching materials developed. This research method is done in four stages; definition, design, development and limited deployment; on the students of grade XI IPA 2 SMA Adabiah Padang. After the stages of dissemination is limited, measured product practicability and product effectiveness to the value of student writing. Development results show the validity of the product contained in the category can be used with the improvement with a value of 77.4. Practicality of the product is stated at the value of 88.77 and the effectiveness at the value of 80%. It can be concluded that the product can be used as teaching teaching material.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether cognitive strategy can improve students' skills in writing descriptive text, and what factors affect the improvement of writing skills. This research is a classroom action research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four meetings. Each consists of plan, action, observation, and reflection. Participants in this study is as straight as the students of class VII-2 SMPN 1 Indra Praja Tembilahan totaling 22 students. The data of this study were collected through: (1) observation sheet; students, teachers, teaching steps (2) field notes (3) interviews, and (4) writing tests. This study found that the use of cognitive strategy can improve students' skills in writing descriptive text. The findings of this study indicate that there is an increase in the average score of students above the completeness criteria of a minimum of English subjects is 75. The factors that influence the skills of students in writing descriptive text are (a) reading material given to the students, (b) motivation students, and (c) teacher's approach to students. So it can be concluded that the application of cognitive strategy on the teaching of reading descriptive text can give positive results with the increase of students' skills in reading descriptive text.

Abstract

Learning the Indonesian Language, specially reading aloud in Elementary School must use various techniques. This causes, less motivated students to learn independently and less ability in reading aloud. The solution to resolve problems is apply of modeling phonological techniques in teaching reading aloud. This technique aims at improving reading skills. The phonological modeling technique can be applied by focusing on the pronunciation of phonemes. This research is a classroom action research using descriptive methods. The population are all of student at SDN 02 Paninggahan. The sample is fourth grade students of SDN 02 Paninggahan.The concluded of the research are: 1) learners are more motivated to participate in learning Indonesian language with phonological modeling techniques.  2) Increased thoroughness every aspect / indicator on the first cycle and second cycle increased. The increase occurred in the pronunciation of the phoneme /f/, /u/, /a/, /i/, /k/, and /n/.

Abstract

This study was written to see the effect of picture strategy inductive model (PWIM) and student self-efficacy to their skills in writing descriptive text. This research is a quasi-experimental design with factorial design. This research data is taken from the result of student writing skill test and self-efficacy questionnaire. Then, the data were analyzed by using t-test and two-way Anova through Minitab 14 application. The results of this study indicate that PWIM strategy has a significant effect on students' writing skill when compared with listing strategy used by teachers in writing teaching. The result shows a t count of 1,900 which is larger than the t-table that is worth 1.684. Then, students with high self-efficacy taught with the PWIM strategy have a better ability to write descriptive text than students taught with a listing strategy, where t counts are 3.160 which is greater than t-tables of 1.812. However, students with low self-efficacy taught by the PWIM strategy do not have a better ability to write descriptive text than students taught by a listing strategy that t-counts 1.730 smaller than t-tables of 1.812 . Furthermore, from the results of the study also found that there is no interaction between teaching strategies with self-efficacy to the writing skills of students where F-count is 0.08 higher than the F-table is 2.58.

Abstract

Position and function of oral literature including folklore is increasingly displaced due to technological advances, cultural systems, social systems, and political systems are developed. Therefore, efforts should be made documenting folklore Rambah society. The purpose of this study was to describe the categories, structure and social functions contained in the folklore society Rambah. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Object of this study is the folklore society Sand Pengaraian Rambah district. Data collection was done by recording, recording and interviews. Then proceed to describe and interpret the results. Data analysis was performed through a data inventory phase, phase of data analysis, and reporting phases. Based on the research and discussion of public folklore Rambah divided into three categories, namely fairy tales, legends, and myths. Of the fourteen stories, stories that have category found eight legends, myths category four stories, and a bit of a fairy tale by the two stories. In terms of structure, folklore Rambah people are more likely to use the plot forward and a third person perspective. Moreover, in terms of style more common stylistic comparison, repetition, and contradiction. Rambah folklore society serves as a means of entertainment, education, faith bequeathed the means, the means to preserve the customs, culture, and traditions, shows Rambah community identity, as well as a means of fostering a spirit of togetherness. The results could be implicated in the Indonesian language learning with understanding the competency standard spoken folklore.
