Abstract

A Field Oriented Control (FOC) strategy based on a 24-Sector Vector  Space Decomposition (24SVSD) technique used to control a Dual Three-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (DTP-PMSM) applied on electric ship propulsion prototype is presented in this paper. This machine is supplied by Dual Three-Phase Voltage Source Inverter (DTP-VSI). This study carried out on these multiphase machines has revealed that the large zero sequence harmonic current components on (z1, z2) subspace, constitutes major drawbacks; despite their advantages. The machine’s dynamic model is accomplished in three two-dimensional and orthogonal subspaces. In order to reduce more extra stator harmonic currents that produces losses, the current work is also concering of to consider the three different approaches for the sake of boosting the machine’s efficiency. Thus, the principle selection of the reference voltage vector and the time calculation method are presented in details. The proposed strategy effectiveness is validated by simulation results.

Abstract

The Space Vector Modulation SVM technique has won large acceptance for AC drive applications. However the utilization of multilevel inverters connected with SVM by Digital signal processor (DSP) raise the intricacy of control algorithm or computational load, increases of the obtaining distortions output voltage. The development of SVM in multilevel inverters may offer higher numbers of switching vectors for acquiring further enhancements of output voltage performances and implement by using Field Programmer Gate Array (FPGA), investigate lower Total Hormonic Distortion (THD). This paper reports the performance evaluation of SVM for five-level of Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter CHMI using MATLAB/Simulink, which is sampled at the minimum sampling time, i.e. DT = 5 μs. The switching signals for driving insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBTs) which are stored in MATLAB workspaces, are then used to be programmed in FPGA using a Quartus II software. Which can be stated the lower THD of the simulation result is about 14.48% for five-level CHMI and experiment result is about 14.31% for five-level CHMI at modulation index M_i=0.9. The error percentage between the simulation results and experimental results of the fundamental output voltage in SVM is small which is approximately less than 1 %.

Abstract

Square root calculation is a widely used task in real-time control systems especially in those, which control power electronics: motors drives, power converters, power factor correctors, etc. At the same time calculation of square roots is a bottle-neck in the optimization of code execution time. Taking into account that for many applications approximate calculation of a square root is enough, calculation time can be decreased with the price of precision of calculation. This paper analyses existing methods for fast square root calculation, which can be implemented for fixed point microcontrollers. It discusses algorithms’ pros and cons, analyses calculation errors and gives some recommendations on their use. The paper also proposes an original method for fast square root calculation, which does not use hardware acceleration and therefore, is suitable for implementation at a variety of modern Digital Signal Processors, which have high-speed hardware multipliers, but do not have effective dividers. The maximum relative error of the proposed method is 3.36% for calculation without division, and can be decreased to 0.055% using one division operation. Finally, the most promising methods are compared and results of their performance comparisons are depicted in tables.

Abstract

Time Response enhancement utilizing photovoltaic based cascaded Landsman Converter (LC) structure is one of the soft strategies in the recent scenario. The prime function of a DC-DC Landsman converter is to optimize the output power of the photovoltaic array and reduce the output voltage ripples. This paper reveals the demonstration and simulation of the Cascaded Landsman Converter Inverter System (CLCIS) with a PV source. MATLAB Simulink-model for CLCIS has been created utilizing the components of Simulink and closed-loop examinations are performed with PI and Fractional-Order-PID (FOPID) Controllers. The present work deal with the comparison of transient and steady-state time responses of CLCIS with PI and FOPID controllers. The outcomes demonstrate that dynamic reaction is enhanced by utilizing FOPID controller.

Abstract

The wind is a clean, free, and readily available renewable energy source, it is cost-effective in several regions, it is a domestic source of energy and it is a sustainable source of energy. The SSSC system is a FACTS voltage compensator, it is inserted in series with the electrical transmission line through a coupling transformer, its role is to inject a voltage which allows to influence the active power transmitted. The goal of this paper is to examine the effect of using a wind farm SSSC to improve flexibility of a multi-machine perturbed network.

Abstract

This paper presents the design and development of an integrated wireless power transfer and data communication system. The power and data transfer share a common inductive link that consists of two identical Helical coils placed on both sides of a carbon composite barrier. Power and data are transferred simultaneously through a 5-mm thick carbon composite barrier without any physical penetration or contact. Power transfer measurements show that the system can deliver 9.7 AC power to the receiving coil with a power transfer efficiency of 36% through the carbon composite barrier. The system achieves a bidirectional half-duplex data communication with the data rate of unit 1.2kbit/s.

Abstract

The fore most issue in DTC based induction motor drive is its torque ripples. The core objective of this paper is to reduce the electromagnetic torque ripples by varying the hysteresis controller bandwidth. Space Vector Modulation (SVM) based Direct Torque Controlled (DTC) induction motor drive is simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and its performance is studied with step change in load torque. The influence of hysteresis controller bandwidth on the performance of induction motor drive is analysed in terms of stator flux and electromagnetic torque ripples. The electromagnetic torque response and the stator flux trajectory for different values of hysteresis controller bandwidth are obtained and the results are presented.

Abstract

In this paper, the optimal control problem of a nonlinear robot manipulator in absence of holonomic constraint force based on the point of view of adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) is presented. To begin with, the manipulator was intervened by exact linearization. Then the framework of ADP and Robust Integral of the Sign of the Error (RISE) was developed. The ADP algorithm employs Neural Network technique to tune simultaneously the actor-critic network to approximate the control policy and the cost function, respectively. The convergence of weight as well as position tracking control problem was considered by theoretical analysis. Finally, the numerical example is considered to illustrate the effectiveness of proposed control design.

Abstract

In this paper, a Sigma-Delta Quantizer (∑∆-Q) based Proportional and Integral control is proposed for a wireless power transfer control system, namely inductive power transfer system. The proposed control topology employs ∑∆-Qs to convert the conventional signals (analog/digital signals) into bitsreatm signals (1-bit per sample time). Considering the oversampling feature of ∑∆-Q, field programmable gate array is utilized in the implementation of the control system. To evaluate the effectiveness of the presented control topology, it is compared with an inductive power transfer control system using the conventional proportional and integral controller. For the sake of simplicity, the comparison is carried out using hardware in Loop. Both control systems exhibit almost identical responses. However, the bitstream feature of the proposed PI controller significantly helps in reducing the hardware resources (logic elements) in field programmable gate array. In addition, less wire routing and computational complexity is achieved due to absence of multipliers.

Abstract

A novel Quasi Z source (QZS) based Asymmetric Multilevel Inverter for Photovoltaic application is proposed in this paper. It consists of an Impedance source-based dc-dc converter and Asymmetric Multilevel Inverter (AMLI). QZS network can buck/boost the input DC voltage eliminating separate DC-DC boost converter. MLI topology with reduced switches and DC input provide high quality output with large levels. DC input magnitude of the inverter is based on an algorithm. The system ensures high voltage gain, low switching stress, lessened gate circuitry, high reliability and better harmonic profile. Low THD values ensures reduced filter size and hence cost. The theoretical concepts and parameter design of the proposed topology is illustrated in detail. The performance analysis is verified using Matlab/Simulink environment.
