Abstract

The current electric drive of industrial manipulators is implemented on the principle of speed control and position of the actuator, often do not provide actuator motion as consistent with required process specifications. Taking into account the disadvantages of existing control systems the new approach to control systems engineering and implementation of industrial manipulators electric drives using force balancing systems of actuator efforts control was proposed. Application properties and implementation of efforts control systems inside springy gears and mechanisms of industrial manipulators have been studied. The efficient structure of electromechanical system, which provides the desired balance the transfer object weight and dampening of manipulators mechanical gears springy oscillations is proved. The studies were performed on mathematical modeling and the prototype of industrial manipulators, which confirmed the performance of control system potential structure application and synthesized effort regulator which provide the required performance factor. The potential electromechanical force balancing systems is ably to increase industrial manipulators performance quality, provides transfer and the desired positioning of load directly by operator. Possibility of efficient application the scope increase of industrial manipulators using the potential force balancing systems of efforts control is defined.

Abstract

This paper presents the simulation and experimental of Class-E power amplifier which consists of a load network and a single transistor. The transistor is operated as a switch at the carrier frequency of the output signal. In general, Class-E power amplifier is often used in designing a high frequency ac power source because of its ability to satisfy the zero voltage switching (ZVS) conditions efficiently even when working at high frequencies with significant reduction in switching losses. In this paper, a 10W Class-E power amplifier is designed, constructed, and tested in the laboratory. SK40C microcontroller board with PIC16F877A is used to generate a pulse width modulation (PWM) switching signal to drive the IRF510 MOSFET. To be specific, in this paper, the effect on switching and performance at 1MHz frequency are studied in order to understand the Class-E inverter behavior. Performance parameters relationships were observed and analysed in respect to the load and duty cycle. Theoretical calculations, simulation and experimental results for optimum operation using selected component values are then compared and presented.

Abstract

This paper presents a five level Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) inverter fed IM (Induction Motor) drive for variable speed application. In general the stator current is very highly affected by the harmonic components. It can be affecting the torque to produce high torque ripple in IM at maximum to low speed region. Since the drive performances are depends on mathematical model contains the parameters variations, noise, common mode voltage, flux variation and harmonic levels of the machine. Torque ripples and voltage saturations are the most significant problems in drive application. To overcome this problem the DTFC (direct torque and flux control) technique based five-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC-5L) approach is used. The proposed control scheme uses to stator current error as variable. Through the resistance estimated PI controller rules based the selection of voltage space vector modulation technique is optimized and motor performance level has been improved. The torque & speed are successfully controlled with less torque response. The results are compared and verified with conventional three phases VSI under different control technique by Matlab/Simulink.

Abstract

Protective relays coordination is the process of determining the exact relay settings such that the relay closes to the fault would operates faster than other relays. The operating time of each relay depends on two independent variables called Pickup current (Ip) and Time Dial Setting (TDS). In this paper, a PSO algorithm has been presented to determine the coordination of Directional Over-Current Relays (DOCRs) in presence of multi-system FACTS devises. From the simulation result and analysis, the impact of TCSC location in the in 33-bus distribution system on Directional Over-Current Relays has been observed on the optimal relays settings as well as the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in finding optimal coordination of directional over-current relays.

Abstract

Lead-acid batteries have been the most widely used energy storage units in stand-alone photovoltaic (PV) applications. To make a full use of those batteries and to improve their lifecycle, high performance charger is often required. The implementation of an advanced charger needs accurate information on the batteries internal parameters. In this work, we selected CIEMAT model because of its good performance to deal with the widest range of lead acid batteries. The performance evaluation of this model is based on the co-simulation LabVIEW/Multisim. With the intention of determining the impact of the charging process on batteries, the behaviour of different internal parameters of the batteries was simulated. During the charging mode, the value of the current must decrease when the batteries’ state of charge is close to be fully charged.

Abstract

This paper presents the effect of total harmonic distortion (THD) in power factor correction (PFC) at non-linear load. This study focuses on the relationship between THD and PFC. This is beacuse,the power factor affects THD. This occurs in power system as we have variety of loads, i. e linear load or non-linear load. The variety of loads will influence the sinusoidal waveform, which comes out from harmonic distortion. Thus, based on this study, we can compare the effective method in improving the power factor as it will not disturb the performance of THD. The focus of study is on the single phase load, where the voltage restriction is 240 V.  The analysis will  only focus on the consumer, which depends on the variety of non-linear load. Besides, the parameters for analysis are based on the percentage of THD and the value of power factor. The instrument for measuring the parameter is based on power factor correction device or technique. On the other hand, the method that was used for this study is based on simulation which incorporated the Multisim software. At the end of ths study, we can choose the most effective method that can be used to improve the power factor correction without disturbing the THD.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel method of optimal Propotional-Intergral (PI) controller’s parameter tuning strategy in-order to improve the Constant Switching Performance of 3-phase DTC shceme. The Direct Torque Control (DTC) sheme is acknowledged to provide fast decoupled control over the torque output and stator flux via a simple control structure. However, DTC sheme has two major downsides, which are the inconsistent inverter switching frequency and high torque output ripple. The main reason that contributes to these tribulations is the usage of hysteresis comparators in order to control the output torque. The realization of PI based controller method as replacement of hyterisis controller in DTC system able to provide significant solutions to over come the fall back while retaining the simple control structure of conventional DTC. The combination usage of higher sampling controller DS1004 and also 3-level CHMI in this system can further minimize the output torque ripple by providing higher resolution with lower digital error and greater number of vectors. This paper presents detail explanation and calculation of optimal PI parameter tuning strategy consecutively to enhance the performance of 3-level DTC system. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed method experimentation, the proposed method is compared with convention DTC system via simulation and experiment results.

Abstract

Renewable power systems as distributed generation units often experience big changes in the inverter input voltage due to fluctuations of energy resources. Z-source inverter (ZSI) is known as a single-stage buck/boost inverter. The ZSI achieves voltage buck/boost in single stage, without additional switches. Triggering on state enables energy to be stored in inductors, which is released when at non-shoot-through state, followed by the voltage boost feature. The voltage-fed Z-source inverter/quasi-Z-source inverter (QZSI) have been presented suitable for photovoltaic (PV) applications mainly because of its single-stage buck and boost capability and the improved reliability.

Abstract

A comparative study of three phase grid connected photovoltaic (PV) inverter using Proprotional Controller (PI) and Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is presented in this paper. Proposed three phase inverter with single DC source employing three phase transformer for grid connected PV system controlled by using Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique.  PI and FLC are used as current controller for regulating the current. Perturb and observe Maximum Power Point Technique (MPPT) is used for tracking of maximum power from the PV panel. Finally Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) comparison made between two controllers for validation of results. Furthermore swithing losses of inverter are also presented. The simulation results are obtained using MATLAB simulink.

Abstract

The paper deals with the design methodology of high voltage high power alternators driven by steam turbines. These alternators run at a high speed of 3000 rpm in most part of the world (at 3600 rpm in USA) and are of cylindrical pole construction. The design procedure suggested in the text-books of design does not well-suit for large alternators of modern time. Modern high power alternators are designed with a low value of SCR to reduce the size, inertia and cost of the rotor. The diameter is limited by the consideration of centrifugal stresses. The no.of stator slots are determined by the no. of turns. The ventilating circuit has to be designed for hydrogen as coolant and in addition with water flowing through hollow conductors, if required. The data for the design variables and the design constraints are quite different from those for small power ratings. The materials to be chosen must be of very high quality. The computer programme has been chalked out and the case-study has been conducted keeping all these points in view.
