Abstract

Multilevel inverters find use in industrial drive applications and grid based power generation. Owing to the increasing power demand and rising conventional generation costs a new alternative in renewable energy source is gaining popularity and acceptance. A Wind-PV hybrid renewable energy source is proposed which increases power reliability and improves standalone generation efficiency. A Quasi Z source network allows inverter shoot through possibility while boosting the dc voltage fed to the Neutral Point Clamped MLI. Simulation results were obtained for two levels VSI and further simulations for 3 level quasi NPC-TLI verified using Matlab Simulink and hardware implementation results verified by using DSP controller

Abstract

This paper presents the improved single phase AC-DC super lift Luo converter for enhancing quality of power by mitigating the issues. The proposed converter is used for output voltage control, power factor improvement and reduced source current harmonics at supply side. The main intention of this work is to design appropriate closed loop controllers for this AC-DC super lift Luo converter to achieve  unity power factor in the source end. The designed control system comprises of two control loops, voltage control in outer loop and the current controller is devised in the inner loop. Fuzzy controller is used for current controller whereas PI controller as voltage controller. In the MATLAB/SIMULINK platform, simulation of the proposed AC-DC super lift Luo converter is done. It is clear from the simulation results that PI integrated fuzzy controller for voltage and control is proven to be better than classical PI with hysteresis controllers. The proposed system is able to achieve high input power factor along with supply current harmonic distortions of less than 5%.

Abstract

Nowadays, the fossil combustibles are replaced by renewable energies sources .These renewable energies are nontoxic, dirt free, and protected and reasonably cheep for the user.   Renewable energy resources like bio-gas, geothermal, solar, tidal waves and wind have been found as the best alternatives energy source. Among those renewable energy sources, wind energy stands foremost for generating electricity. In order to have a constant utilization of wind energy and to extract maximum power from wind energy. In this paper, various control strategies prevalent to both the Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG)and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator(PMSG) have been analyzed . In addition, control topology applicable to power electronics converter/inverter used in wind electric generators  are discussed.

Abstract

Multilevel inverters are emerging as the new breed of power converter options for high power applications. They typically synthesis the staircase voltage waveform (from several dc sources) which reduced harmonic content. This paper presents a simple selective harmonic elimination (SHE) modulation for single-phase cascaded H-bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter. The optimum switching angle of the transcendental equations describing the fundamental and harmonic components is solved by means of the Newton-Raphson (NR) method. The proposed SHE scheme is performed through simulation using MATLAB/Simulink. This simulation results are then verified through experiment using Altera DE0-Nano field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The proposed SHE is efficient in eliminating the lowest-order harmonics and producing a higher quality output waveform with a better harmonic profile.

Abstract

This paper is concerned with the stability and Robust stabilization problem for 2-D continuous systems in Roesser model, based on Generalized Kalman$-$Yakubovich$-$Popov lemma in combination with frequency-partitioning approach. Sufficient conditions of stability of the systems are formulated via linear matrix inequality technique. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract

Power electronics play a significant role in different areas of technology, more usage of power electronic devices lead to more harmonic content and various power quality issues in the system.  Therefore, power quality gains more significance in the current era of research. Power electronics equipment’s with non-linear loads concludes with more harmonic disturbances and lower power factor. Harmonic impurities are the major problem ingredient due to the connection of non-linear load. To lessen the harmonics usually passive filters are used. The major objective of this work is to monitor and analyse the power quality of uninterrupted power supply by means of DAQ system that gathers real time data on the system and then the data is analysed using National Instruments LabVIEW. Once power quality analysis is done, a new technique of filter implementation using output transformer of the UPS was explored and passive filter was simulated using MATLAB/Simulink and then simulated filter was implemented in order to achieve power quality improvement.

Abstract

This paper  present a speed hybrid fuzzy-sliding mode control (HFSMC) of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) to ensure the traction of an electric vehicle; at the first we applied the sliding mode control (SMC) with three surfaces on the PMSM by  taking into account the dynamics of the vehicle; And afterwards we applied the fuzzy-sliding mode   in which the surface of the speed is replaced by a Fuzzy-PI controller; Simulation under Matlab/Simulink has been carried out to evaluate  the efficiency and robustness of the proposed control on a system drive. It should be noted that the reference speed is the European urban driving schedule ECE-15 cycle.

Abstract

In this paper, latest technology is introduced in substitution to conventional voltage and current type inverter with Transformer based impedance (Z) source inverter in voltage sag assessment and mitigation and compared with voltage source inverter based dynamic voltage restorer. Transformer based impedance source inverters (Trans-Z source inverters) are newly proposed inverters that can be used to overcome downside of voltage source inverter, current source inverter and impedance source (Z-source) inverter. T-Z source inverter consists of transformer with high frequency and low leakage inductance along with low reactive component compared with conventional Z source inverter. In case of T-Z source inverter, voltage stress throughout Z-source capacitor is reduced along with inrush current limitation at startup. This paper presents modeling of T-Z source inverter based dynamic voltage restorer using MATLAB/SIMULINK software along with its THD analysis which is compared with VSI based dynamic voltage restorer. Here abc to dq0 control algorithm is employed. The control technique which is employed for simulation shows excellent results for voltage sag and swell compensation.

Abstract

We introduce in this paper a new FPGA-based Maximum Power Tracker for photovoltaic systems. The developed approach targets to modify the perturb and observe in view of reaching rapid tracking and achieving excellent accuracy, while keeping the stability performance and the reduced complexity. To perform this improvement, an automatic and smart two steps switcher is integrated, in addition inputs FIR filters are incorporated. Therefore, a high sampling frequency is attained, and consequently the tracking speed is improved. MATLAB simulations and the Xilinx FPGA implementation results show that the improved approach reaches a performance very close to the recently published MPPT methods, with lesser complexity.

Abstract

The trend in the motor applications is to reduce weight and volume by increasing the efficiency. Because of the advantage of high efficiency and high density, interest in brushless DC motors and drives is increasing. Unlike DC motors, the brushless DC (BLDC) motors require inverter circuit and position detector. In this paper, we deal with the optimization of the BLDC motor, the inverter, and the position detector. The inverter is optimized to be mounted on the BLDC motor. This paper deals primarily with the design and implementation aspects of the BLDC motor and the integrated drive circuit. Experimental results for the prototype of the BLDC motor with integrated dirve circuit in the laboratory are presented to validate the feasibility.
