Abstract

Multilevel inverters offers less distortion and less electro-magnetic interference compared with other conventional inverters and hence, it can be used in many industrial and commercial applications.  This paper analyze the performance of the modified single phase seven level symmetrical inverter using minimum number of switches. The proposed topology consists of six switches and two dc sources, and produces seven level output voltage waveform during symmetric operation. The cost and size of the propsoed inverter minimum as it uses minimum number of components, The performance of the proposed multilevel inverter is analysed for different switching angles and the corresponding simulation results are presented. The simulation of the proposed inverter is carried out using MATLAB/Simulink software.

Abstract

This paper aims to provide a high performance sensorless control based on an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) applied to fault-tolerant PMSM drive system with stator-resistance estimation. It proposes a fast method of fault switches detection in the power converters. The considered drive is composed of three phases PMSM and a four leg three phase’s inverter when the fourth is the redundant leg. After a short-switch fault occurrence, the redundant leg replaces the faulty leg. The simulation results verify that the proposed control method and the fault tolerant inverter ensure the high reliability and continuously operation of the sensorless vector control PMSM system under inverter fault.

Abstract

This paper presents a new smart monitoring system designed based on dc to dc converter for photovoltaic application. This system design according two parts to monitor input-output voltages and currents for dc/dc converter, (a) control system: the control system using Arduino NANO as microcontroller to read the measuring voltage and current values from sensor circuits of voltage and current. The measuring data send by Bluetooth HC-05 to end user (monitor system). Bluetooth as wireless communication between the control system and monitoring system (end users). (b) monitoring system: The monitoring system application program as a new application designed to monitor the received data from control system from safety distance (around 10m). the application program designed by the open source AppyBuilder software. The AppyBuilder is an open source software for easily building Android smartphone application. The advantages of the final circuit can be used to monitor step-up or step-down topologies, low-cost, and high-efficiency performance.

Abstract

This paper presents a control scheme for speed control system in brushless dc (BLDC) motor to be utilized for electric motorbike. While conventional motorbikes require engine and fuel, electric motorbikes require DC motor and battery pack in order to be powered up. The limitation with battery pack is that it will need to be recharged after a certain period and distance. As the recharging process is time consuming, a PID controller is designed to maintain the speed of the motor at its optimum state, thus ensuring a longer lasting battery time (until the next charge). The controller is designed to track variations of speed references and stabilizes the output speed accordingly. The simulation results conducted in MATLAB/SIMULINK® shows that the motor, equipped with the PID controller was able to track the reference speed in 7.8x10-2 milliseconds with no overshoot.  The result shows optimistic possibility that the proposed controller can be used to maintain the speed of the motor at its optimum speed.

Abstract

Wind energy has many advantages, it does not pollute and it is an inexhaustible source. However, the cost of this energy is still too high to compete with traditional fossil sources. The yield of a wind turbine depends on three parameters: the power of the wind, the turbine power curve and the ability of the generator to respond to fluctuations in the wind. This article presented the MPPT of a wind turbine system equipped with an asynchronous generator has dual power under MatlabSimulink program, in the first time we simulated all the conversion chain with complete model of DFIG and vector control in second stepthen applied the extracted maximum power MPPT strategists, this command is effective and has several advantages it offered to kept the maximum power delivered to network despite all the parameter is change.

Abstract

This paper presents combinations of level shifted pulse-width modulation algorithm with conventional discontinuous pulse-width modulation methods for cascaded multilevel inverters. In the proposed DPWM a zero sequence signal is injected in sinusoidal reference signal to generate various modulators with easier implementation. The analysis four various control strategies namely Common Carrier (CC), Inverted Carrier (IC), Phase Shifted (PS) and Inverted Phase Shift (IPS) for cascaded multilevel inverter fed induction motor drive has been illustrated. To validate the proposed work experimental tests has been carried out using dSPACE controller. Experimental study proves that using proposed algorithms reduction in common-mode voltage with fewer harmonics along with reduced switching loss for a cascaded multilevel inverter fed motor drive has been achieved.

Abstract

A dc-dc zeta converter is a switch mode dc-dc converter that can either step-up or step-down dc input voltage. In order to regulate the dc output voltage, a control subsystem needs to be deployed for the dc-dc zeta converter. This paper presents the dc-dc zeta converter control. Unlike conventional dc-dc zeta converter control which produces a controller based on the nominal value model, we propose a convex polytope model of the dc-dc zeta converter which takes into account parameter uncertainty. A linear matrix inequality (LMI) is formulated based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) problem to find the state-feedback controller for the convex polytope model. Simulation results are presented to compare the control performance between the conventional LQR and the proposed LMI based controller on the dc-dc zeta converter. Furthermore, the reduction technique of the convex polytope is proposed and its effect is investigated.

Abstract

Accurate modeling of cables is important to study the behavior of high frequency disturbances in power converter systems. This paper reviews and compares two popular methodologies to model energy cables – an improved per unit length parameters based model and a Laplace SPICE element based model. The two models presented take into account the frequency dependence of the parameters of the cable. A ladder network is used for this purpose in the per unit length based model. The Laplace SPICE element model is generated from from a rational function approximation for the admittance parameters that are frequency dependant. The rational function approximation is obtained using a well known vector fitting algorithm.  The time and frequency domain solutions of a two wire energy cable, obtained from the two models, agree well.

Abstract

This paper proposes an asymmetrical cascaded single phase H-bridge inverter. The proposed inverter consists of two modules with unequal and isolated dc sources. Each module is composed of dc source, conventional four switches H-bridge and single bidirectional switch. To increase the output voltage levels, the tertiary ratio, 1:3, between its two dc sources is adopted. Both the fundamental frequency and the multicarrier pulse width modulation (PWM) control schemes are employed to generate switches signals. By controlling the inverter modulation index, the proposed inverter can generate an output voltage having up to seventeen levels by using only two modules. The proposed topology has also the feature of modularity which means that it can be extended to any levels by adding new modules. The proposed topology is simulated using an inductive load and some selected simulation results have been provided to validate the proposed inverter.

Abstract

The proposed work comprises of an MPPT controlled Photovoltaic (PV) source, in conjunction with a supercapacitor, cascaded with a Sliding Mode Controlled (SMC) Inverter, supplying variable linear and nonlinear loads. The effects of varying solar irradiation and its intermittency have been effectively managed by the MPPT controlled boost converter and charge controlled supercapacitor respectively. The charge controller bucks and boosts the terminal voltage and realizes the power flow in a bidirectional manner. Seamless action has been obtained by the proposed model under varying irradiation and for varying load conditions. The performance of the SMC controlled Inverter, when compared with a PI controlled Inverter, has been found to be superior in terms of power quality and robustness of the supply system
