Abstract

In this paper, a Matlab based GUI and Propotinal Integral Dervative (PID) controller is designed to automatically regulate the flow-rate of the circulating fluid. When fluids are transported over long distances, the pressure and flow rate have to be monitored remotely in a control room. Using an HMI or Control Panels the flow rate can be increased or decreased to compensate for pressure drops or disturbances. This paper attempts to demonstrate such an Industrial Control Operation in a scaled-down environment. A Graphical User Interface or GUI is constructed which enables the Operator to monitor, as well as control an electronically actuated Control Valve which can efficiently regulate the flow-rate. Automatic operations have also been implemented using a PID controller algorithm, which tries to track the Set-point in Real-time.

Abstract

This paper aims to implement a new contribution for sliding mode control (SMC) of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) for wind systems conversion with track the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) power. The SMC is a very popular approach due to its robustness in dealing with the non-linear electrical power systems. In this work, the application of the SMC control is by using the non lineare model of the PMSG. The objective of this work is to control stator active and stator reactive power, and the voltage-frequency for a better injection into the network. The results obtained show better robustness.

Abstract

In this work, we aim to install a wireless power transfer (WPT) system experimentally. Series resonance technology was used to achieve zero-voltage switching (ZVS). We investigated the impact of the primary and secondary resonance frequencies (fp and fd), and inverter frequency switching (fch) on the efficiency (β) and maximum transfer power in a WPT system based on the inductive wireless power transfer (IWPT) technology. An ultrasonic device was utilized as a generator to excite the coil at the primary side. The experimental outcomes showed that there is an optimum unlike fp and fd can be got to match fch. It was found also that there is a trade-off between the power supplied to the load (PRL) and DC-DC efficiency (β). At an air-gap of 5 cm, the obtained results are recorded as follows; the peak recorded system β is 62% that was obtained at fp=19 kHz, fd=fch=24 kHz that is corresponding to 101.88W of PRL; whereas the highest PRL resulted i.e. 244W when fp=19 kHz, fd =24 kHz, fch=21 kHz at 61% of β; in such case, the maximum β* PRL multiplication was achieved i.e. 149. Moreover, the coils’ misalignment was studied. The outcomes showed that the lateral misalignment has worst effect on the PRL and β than the air-gap. The experimental results were validated with simulation ones.

Abstract

This paper presents the modeling and simulation of wind energy Conversion System using the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). The objectives are: to extract the maximum power of the wind speed by controlling the electromagnetic torque of the PMSG, to maintain constant the DC-link voltage despite the wind speed variations and to attain the unity power factor. In order to ensure a regulation with high performance and a good robustness against the internal and the external disturbances, a new control strategy called the Active Disturbance Rejection Control (ADRC) is used. Therefore, the Analysis and simulation of the ADRC and PI controllers are developed with MATLAB/Simulink software. The performance of these controllers is compared in term of references tracking, robustness and grid faults.

Abstract

Wind energy is currently the fastest-growing energy source in the world. However, the inherent characteristic of intermittent energy production, due to the stochastic nature of wind, still comprises the main drawback of wind power. To avoid such problems, various configurations have been reccomended in order to reduce output power variation. The paper concentrates on performance benefits of adding energy storage system with the wind generator in order to regulate the electric power delivered into the power grid. Compared with other means of energy storage, the flywheel energy storage system (FESS) is the best choice to solve power quality problems. In this paper, a FESS associated to a variable speed wind generation (VSWG) is investigated by presenting two control strategies applied to the storage system equipped with an induction machine; both techniques are studied and developed and consist of a field control (FOC) and a Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC). Simulation model is established in MATLAB/Simulink and comparative results are then reported.

Abstract

In real inverters' operations, it is essential to insert delay time in the pulses provided to the inverter switches to protect the DC link against the short circuits. From this situation, the dead time phenomenon is introduced that causes undesirable performance and distortion of the output signal. Previously, researchers have proposed various schemes for compensating or eliminating dead-time. In this paper, a new dead-time elimination (DTE) scheme is proposed with a guarantee algorithm to eliminate dead-time and overcome the issues produced at the zero-currents-crossing point (ZCC). This method does not require additional hardware or filters to determine the polarity of the output current, and its principle is very simple to implement. The developed DTE method completely removes the dead-time issues on the magnitude and phase of the output voltage, and avoid the problems which can be induced around the ZCC. The results confirm the effectiveness and safety of this method.

Abstract

Solar panels have undergone several tests through research studies for the purpose of improving performance to increase the resulting electrical power. This study considers the fact of the necessity of Maximum Power Point Tracking working conditions of the PV panels to harvest maximum electrical power during the weather variations. It considers also the panel temperature reduction which affects positively the panel ability in terms of producing additional electrical power. By this consideration, this study proposes a new design, and simulation results with analysis of a hybrid PV system. The system is able to deliver 5 kW, through the day hours, with less number of PV panels based on a hybrid technique. The proposed technique combines two manipulating processes. The first one guarantees the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) condition during day hours through an artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller. Whereas the second one focuses on reducing the panel temperature by introducing a water cooler which is designed for this purpose. Simulink software of MATLAB is used to implement and evaluate the proposed system.

Abstract

The commonly reported measures of the predictive accuracy are evaluated in this paper. Absolute, squared, percentage, and integral errors methods are implemented, to reduce the objective function, which employed in model predictive control. These methods are usually investigated for dc source inverter, which controlled by finite set model predictive current control system, with three phase induction motor load. In this paper, the evaluation includes different aspects, accuracy, complexity, system harmonics content, and execution time. A vital criterion in this process is the performance of the inverter, and the matching between the reference and the measured machine currents. The evaluation shows that for one term objective function, absolute and square errors give similar results with less execution time for the absolute error, but if multi terms objective function the square error is better.

Abstract

Meta-heuristic optimization techniques are important tools to define the optimal solutions for many problems. In this paper, a new advanced artificial intelligence (AI) based direct torque control (DTC) speed drives are optimally designed and implemented in real time to achieve a high performance permanent-magnet synchronous-motor (PMSM) drive. Grey wolf (GW) algorithms are used with the standard PID-based DTC (PIDDTC) and with the DTC with fuzzy logic (FDTC) based speed controllers. DSPACE DS1202 is utilized in the real-time implementation. MATLAB SIMULINK is used to simulate the steady-state (S.S.) and dynamic responses. The overall system is tested at different operating conditions for both simulation and practical work and all results are presented. A comparison between experimental and simulation results is performed and also a comparison between different applied intelligent techniques is introduced.

Abstract

The cable transmission is widely used in the remote operation or complex geometry with high stiffness and low backlash. Larger drum is required to reduce and error of transmission in long stroke. An error of the desired position occurs due to the fleet angle while cable winding on a drum. Therefore, a new cable driving module which overcomes this problem is proposed. A new cable driving module with a sliding platform is connected to the actuator unit. A motion of the sliding platform is corresponding to a screw rod connected to an actuator. The precision of the driving system is measured by a high-resolution rotatory encoder and high gear ratio actuator. Results are measured by load and error of the system. A load of system shows a performance of overall translation and rotation of the drum at different speeds. An error of the system is measured from forward and reverse direction by increasing and decreasing the number of turns with constant speed. A system has an average load consumption along a long stroke of cable winding which has no significant problem on the screw platform. Multiple turns have low error value in specific and continuous turn in forward and reverse motion. A new cable driving system is proved in precision movement. The fleet angle is eliminated in new mechanism. Along with a constraint motion, there is no significant change in load consumption. An error is low value in a different direction of movement. Hence, a new design of cable transmission can perform in high performance and small size of the system.
