Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the factors influencing employees’ intention to pay professional zakat in the Jakarta area. Although the potential of professional zakat in Indonesia is substantial, its collection remains low due to limited public understanding and participation. Methodology: This research uses a quantitative approach with data collected from 120 employees through a structured questionnaire. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted using SPSS version 26 to test the influence of zakat knowledge, altruism, transparency, and trust on payment intention. Results: The findings reveal that zakat knowledge, altruism, and trust significantly influence the intention to pay professional zakat, while transparency has no significant effect. These results highlight the importance of cognitive and trust-related factors in shaping payment intention. Conclusion: Strengthening zakat literacy and building trust in zakat institutions are essential strategies to enhance professional zakat participation. The study underscores that internal understanding and trust are stronger predictors than perceived transparency. Implications: The limited sample size and focus on the Jakarta area may restrict the generalizability of the findings. Future research should expand the scope and consider broader populations to validate the results. Originality: This study offers originality by simultaneously analyzing zakat knowledge, altruism, transparency, and trust within a single empirical model. It provides a more comprehensive perspective compared to prior studies that examined these variables separately.

Abstract

Introduction: This study examines determinants of behavioral intention and actual adoption of QRIS for cash waqf within MES using the UTAUT framework, addressing low digital waqf uptake and limited evidence in community-based Islamic contexts. Methodology: A quantitative PLS-SEM approach (SmartPLS 4.0) was applied to online survey data from 133 MES administrators and members who have used QRIS for cash waqf. Result: The results show that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence have a positive and significant effect on intention to use QRIS. In contrast, facilitating conditions and behavioral intention do not significantly influence actual user adoption. Conclusion: Perceived benefits, ease of use, and social encouragement are key drivers of intention, yet intention does not necessarily translate into real behavior, indicating an intention–behavior gap in QRIS-based cash waqf. To improve adoption, stakeholders should strengthen perceived usefulness through clear value propositions, simplify the donation flow and feedback, leverage community networks, and implement community-based education to support sustained digital waqf participation. Implications: Limited to purposive sampling in one MES community and a cross-sectional self-reported survey, which may reduce generalizability and introduce common method bias. Future studies should use broader samples, longitudinal designs, and transaction data to better capture the intention–behavior gap. Originality: This study provides evidence on QRIS-based cash waqf adoption in a community setting by testing intention and actual use with a UTAUT-based PLS-SEM model, highlighting the intention–behavior gap and practical ways to improve conversion.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the hierarchical factors influencing Green Waqf-based land development in Indonesia. It aims to identify primary barriers, outline necessary institutional changes, and formulate a strategic model for ecosystem conservation and socio-economic welfare. Methodology: Using a mixed-methods approach based on Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM), primary data were collected via interviews and questionnaires from an expert panel of academics, nazhir, and farmers. Results: ISM analysis reveals that the most critical constraints are the lack of regulatory support, limited fintech optimization, and low nazhir professionalism. Overcoming these requires structured education, specialized training, and robust inter-agency coordination. Furthermore, establishing specific legal provisions and socialization systems are foundational objectives for systemic success. Conclusion: While Green Waqf holds immense potential for climate resilience and land rehabilitation, its current implementation Achieving sustainable impact requires legal formalization, capacity building, and cross-sectoral collaboration. Implications: Policymakers must establish specific legal frameworks and guidelines for biological waqf assets (e.g., trees). Waqf institutions should adopt fintech solutions for transparency, and local communities must be empowered as active partners in agroforestry and environmental restoration. Originality: Moving beyond normative literature, this study pioneers a structured hierarchical governance model for Green Waqf, mathematically mapping previously ill-defined causal relationships among regulatory, technological, and social variables.

Methodology: This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing NVivo 12 software for analysis. The research will be conducted through interviews, documentation, and observation. Results: The research results show that the Sinergi Foundation's management of productive waqf in the Land of Wakaf Teras Lembang has implemented integrated management, from planning and administration to implementation and supervision, effectively and collaboratively. The main challenges include licensing, public trust, and controlling, but development opportunities are wide open with regulatory support and increased public awareness. Conclusion: This research provides an overview of the best practices for productive waqf management especially for halal tourism development with potential market of 12% from 6 million visitors in Lembang. Implication: This study cannot be generalized to represent the entire productive waqf. Further research can use a more comprehensive analysis with a mix method and the improvement of productive waqf literacy should be synergized between stakeholders Originality: This study provides a comprehensive analysis through in-depth interviews using NVivo regarding productive waqf-based halal tourism.

Abstract

Purpose: Prophetic medicine (Thibbun Nabawi) is a health practice derived from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, including cupping therapy (hijama), ruqyah, and halal herbal remedies. Despite its potential within the halal therapeutics industry, its utilization in Indonesia remains relatively low and not fully aligned with the growing awareness of halal lifestyle. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing Indonesian society’s intention to use prophetic medicine by developing an extended Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework incorporating religiosity, halal knowledge, and health consciousness. Methodology: This study employs a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Data were collected from 467 Muslim respondents across various provinces in Indonesia to test the proposed model Results: The findings indicate that religiosity, halal knowledge, and health consciousness significantly influence attitudes toward prophetic medicine. Attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control significantly predict intention to use prophetic medicine. Mediation analysis confirms that attitude mediates the effects of religiosity, halal knowledge, and health consciousness on behavioral intention. Conclusion: The extended TPB model effectively explains Muslim consumers’ intention to use prophetic medicine, with attitude playing a central role. Implications: Stakeholders should promote halal therapeutics by strengthening attitudes through religious values, halal knowledge, and health-oriented communication. Originality: This study extends TPB by integrating religiosity, halal knowledge, and health consciousness in the underexplored context of prophetic medicine.

Abstract

Purpose: In the era of increasingly competitive globalization, entrepreneurship is not only an alternative career option but also a strategic solution in reducing unemployment among graduates. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing students' sharia entrepreneurial intentions in the Kudus and Jepara Regencies. Methodology: This study used Path analysis and was conducted with PLS. The sample of this study was 200 students in Kudus and Jepara. Result: Analysis at Kudus shows that only supportive environmental variables significantly affect students' entrepreneurial intentions. Meanwhile, in Jepara, cultural values, a supportive environment, and belief in Islamic values significantly affect business potential. Education, beliefs, and business awareness also positively affect students' Islamic entrepreneurial intentions and development. Overall, the variables in the Kudus model explain 51.8% of the variation in Islamic entrepreneurial intentions, whereas the Jepara model explains 61.1%. Conclusion: Results of this study contribute to the development of an Islamic value-based entrepreneurial intention model through awareness of Islamic business potential as a mediating variable. The factors that form awareness of the potential of Islamic entrepreneurship are more dominant in Jepara. Implications: The research can inform educational institutions and governments in developing programs and policies. However, this study has limitations in describing the change in Islamic entrepreneurial intentions. Follow-up research is recommended using a longitudinal design and expanding area coverage. Originality:This study integrates the variable of Islamic business potential awareness as a mediator between factors that affect Islamic entrepreneurial intentions. Enriching the application of planned behavior theory to Islamic entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the non-linear impact of Indonesia’s external debt on economic growth using the debt threshold curve proposed by Pattillo. It also compares external debt with sukuk, highlighting that Islamic bonds are relatively more stable and that sukuk, as a rapidly developing Islamic finance instrument, may follow a U-shaped relationship with growth. In this framework, sovereign sukuk (SBSN) are expected to support Indonesia’s economic growth in the long term. Method: The study employs the ARDL (Autoregressive Distributed Lag) approach to estimate the effect of external debt and SBSN on GDP, and uses the quadratic axis-of-symmetry formula to derive the optimal ratios of external debt and sukuk to GDP. Results: The findings reveal an inverted U-shaped relationship between external debt and growth, consistent with the debt threshold hypothesis, and a U-shaped relationship for sukuk, indicated by a negative first-order sukuk coefficient and a positive squared term. Conclusion: These results imply that while excessive external debt ultimately depresses growth, scaling up SBSN can foster long-run economic expansion. Implication:  Though current evidence is constrained by short sukuk time series and lack of sectoral SBSN data, future research should use richer, multi-country data, additional controls, and sector-disaggregated SBSN information. Originality: The study is one of the first to jointly model external debt and sukuk using non-linear specifications, filling a gap in empirical work linking SBSN and GDP and offering a basis for subsequent research on sukuk’s role in Indonesia’s economic development.
