Abstract

There are many factors which affect the academic achievement: internal and external factors. The internal factors include the physical and psychological factors (interest, intelligence, motivation, attention, readiness, and maturity). In academic year of 2011/2012, STIKes Yarsis has added one test, the psychological test, to determine the candidates to pass the student’s admission test. So far, the data haven’t been managed as the important information for the educational management. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find out the bivariate and multivariate correlation between intelligence and motivation toward the student’s academic achievement. The design of study was analytic-cross sectional. The population involved the students of Program of Study of S-1 in the academic year 2011/2012. 106 respondents were chosen as the samples by using simple random sampling technique. The independent variable was the level of intelligence and motivation, whereas the dependent variable was the academic achievement. The data collection was done by using secondary data, which were then analyzed by using simple and multiple linear regression tests. The result of study in bivariate correlation analysis showed that there was a correlation between intelligence and motivation toward the student’s academic achievement. The independent variable playing a role in predicting the GPA (grade-point average) was motivation (p = 0.028). The value of R-Squared was 0.045 which meant that 4.5% of the academic achievement was affected by motivation, whereas the rest of them were affected by other factors. Moreover, the result of analysis described that GPA = 3.097 + 0.060 * motivation. In conclusion, in bivariate correlation analysis, intelligence and learning motivation had a correlation with academic achievement. In multivariate correlation analysis, intelligence didn’t have any correlation with academic achievement, whereas motivation had correlation with academic achievement. Furthermore, academic achievement had a relationship with motivation (4.5%), and the rest of them had a correlation with other factors, such as campus environment, learning media, curriculum, lecturers, social support, etc

Abstract

Complications often experienced by people with diabetes are complications in the feet ( 15 % ) called diabetic foot ( Akhtyo , 2009) . Where the injury to the leg if not treated properly will lead to infections and ultimately need to be amputated .The purpose of writing articles is to review and discuss the evidence-based literature bersadarkanpraktice of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Effectiveness ( NPWT ) ) on the healing of diabetic foot ulcers. One technology that is used to prevent and avoid lower limb amputation is the technique of negative pressure or Negative Pressure Wound Therapy ( NPWT ) ) . This negative pressure technique has grown rapidly and now has been widely used in many countries , especially in Western European countries ( Germany ) and the United States . Negative pressure technique has the advantage that it is relatively cheaper cost than the use of hyperbaric oxygen . Results obtained by several studies that the use of NPWT may improve wound healing process through efforts to create a moist wound environment and decrease edema that becomes optimal wound healing , throw that out of the wound exudate so that the protease enzyme in the exudate also go wasted , this enzyme is known to interfere wound healing process . The other benefit is that it can stimulate cell growth by increasing angiogenesis physically , so that the growth of new cells will be maximal

Abstract

Toddlers should have been done the training to use the toilet, but in fact there were many mothers who did not teach about toilet training to her children because of that her children were still not able to implementation toilet training. Therefore, the research was purposed to analyze the relationship between the diapers using and the readiness of toilet training in toddler in RW 04 Keboan Anom village Gedangan district Sidoarjo regency. The design applied in this research was analytic cross sectional. The population involved 56 mothers having babies 18-36 months old in RW 04 Keboan Anom village Gedangan district Sidoarjo regency in which 49 respondents were taken as the samples by using the simple random sampling technique. The independent variable of this research is diapers using and dependent variable is the readiness of toilet training in toddler Moreover, the instruments used to collect the data were questionnaires. The collected data were then analyzed by applying Spearman’s Rank test with the level of significance α = 0,05. The results of research showed that nearly half of the 49 respondents (46.9%) use the diapers for 12-24 hours / day to her children and the majority (53.1%) had poor toilet training readiness. Based on result of the statistical test, it showed that ρ = 0,000 which meant that ρ < α = 0,05 so that H0 was rejected. Thus, it also proved that there was a relationship between the use of diapers and the readiness of toilet training in toddler. In conclusions, the higher frequency use of diapers can result in the bad effect for the child, they will have a lack toilet training readiness. The medics are expected to be more frequent for providing information about toilet training and for parents, they need to increase the guidance and the direction about toilet training to their children.

Abstract

Violent behavior can endanger ourselves, others and environment. One of the more optimal treatments which is highly needed is the assertive supportive group therapy by using the approach of King’s model of nursing interaction, in which the patient together with his group is asked to give support to do the assertive behavior to each other. The study was purposed to analyze the effects of assertive supportive group therapy on violent behavior done by the Schizophrenic patients based on the King’s interaction nursing model. Method: The design of this study was the pre-post test control group. The population involved the patients with violent behavior hospitalized in the in-patient ward of RSJ Menur Surabaya. The samples of 20 respondents were taken by using simple random sampling technique. The independent variable was the assertive supportive group therapy, whereas the dependent one was violent behavior. Furthermore, the data were collected by filling out the observation sheet. The data were processed by using Paired T-test, Wilcoxon’s Signed Rank Test, and Mann-Whitney’s statistic test. Result: The result of study showed that before receiving this therapy, the average value of violent behavior in the treatment group was 96.1, whereas the average value found in the control group was 75.1. After receiving the assertive supportive group therapy, the average value of violent behavior in the treatment group was 58.4, whereas the average value found in the control group was 54.8. Moreover, the result of statistic test in the treatment group showed that the value difference of violent behavior before and after the treatment was p = 0.005, whereas the value difference found in the control group was p = 0.000, and the effects of the assertive supportive group therapy on violent behavior was p = 0.045. Discussion: The assertive supportive group therapy with King’s model of nursing interaction could decrease the patient’s violent behavior by optimizing the personal system and interpersonally giving support to one another within the group. Therefore, the qualitative study is needed to complete the information about how the assertive supportive group therapy brings some effects to decrease violent behavior
