Abstract

This research focuses on Code Mixing Analysis in Sandi's Podcast with Cinta Laura. This research purposes to describe the types of code mixing and its occurrence. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative analysis to analyze the data. The research data collected from Sandi's YouTube channel entitled Podcast Room with High Motivation Love Achieves Many Things at a Young Age, Sandi Uno "LUAR BIASA!". The study results were described in a video of 18.13 minutes, and researchers wrote down as many as 72 code mixes. The most dominant code mix occurs with the insertion type, which has 41 code mixes. Sandi and Cinta Laura are bilingual because they can speak two languages. This research also shows that Cinta Laura is the one who more often uses code mix from Indonesian into English, and it can be concluded that code mix occurs in every native speaker to communicate.

Abstract

This research analyzed the types of swear words and the translation techniques of swear words that found in a translated novel by Colleen Hoover entitled It Ends With Us into Bahasa Indonesia. This research used descriptive qualitative method to collect the data. The researcher used the theory by Anderson (1992) to analyze types of swear words and the theory by Molina & Albir (2000) to analyze translation techniques of swear words. The researcher found all types of swear words such as expletive swearing, abusive swearing, humorous swearing and auxiliary swearing, the most type that found is expletive swea. Then the researcher also found nine types of translation techniques of swear words such as adaptation, compensation, amplification, established equivalent, literal translation, linguisric amplification, linguistic compression, transposition and modulation, the most techniqu that found is established equivalent.

Abstract

This research is analyzing the use of figurative language used in stand-up comedy show presented by Raditya Dika. This research uses the theory by Kennedy in 1979 as the main theory, and Theory by Davis (2016) as the supporting theory. The aim of this research is to find out the type of figurative language used in verbal humor presented by Raditya Dika in stand-up comedy show in 2017 and 2019. Also, this research aims to find the differences between the use of figurative language by Raditya Dika in stand-up comedy show in 2017 and 2019. This is a qualitative research. The researcher uses qualitatuve method in order make the reader understand by describing and explaining the findings. The data of this research is stand-up comedy by Raditya Dika in 2017 and 2019. The data is taken from Raditya Dika’s youtube Channel. There are 69 figurative language which are found by researcher in Raditya Dika’s stand-up comedy show in 2017 and 2019. In 2017, there are 33 figurative languages. Those 33 figurative languages are divided into 6 types. They are simile (11), metaphor (11), irony (4), personification (3), hyperbole (3), and meiosis (1). In 2019, there are 36 figurative languages. Those 36 figurative languages are divided into four types. They are simile (6), metaphor (17), Irony (5), and hyperbole (8). In 2017, figurative language types that most used by Raditya Dika is simile (11) and metaphor (11). Then, the less used figurative language is meiosis (1). While, in 2019, the most used figurative language type is metaphor (17) and the less used is irony (5). There is no personification and meiosis which are found in Raditya Dika’s stand-up comedy show in 2019.

Abstract

Critical Discourse Analysis studies of communication in political contexts have scrutinized the use of language by politicians striving to win public opinion related to some topic or conflict. utilizing Teun A. van Dijk's framework for political discourse analysis, this thesis examines discursive devices and ideological squares in four speeches related to the Russia Ukraine conflict in 2022 from president Joe Biden and president Vladimir Putin. The study described in this thesis combines micro-level text analysis focusing on discursive devices and macro-level analysis focusing on the ideology formed by the ideological square that represents "us" and "them within it. the data analysis explains the discursive devices that only the president uses Biden namely "disclaimer" "euphemism" "national self-glorification" "number game" and "polarization", on the other hand discursive devices that are only found in president Putin namely "authority" and "comparison". in using ideological square president Biden uses " de-emphasizing negative "us" more than president Putin and on the other hand president Putin uses "emphasizing negative "them" and "de-emphasizing positive "them" more. The results of the study also show that the two presidents conveyed different ideological perspectives and attitudes on the 2022 Ukraine and Russia conflict based on the four speeches analysed.

Abstract

Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) is a common method utilized in numerous research which is an analysis used to critique political speech. The purpose of this study is to find out discourse topics and discourse strategies presented by Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka to reveal her arguments about Gender Equality in her speech entitled “Impatient for Change: Global Action Gender Equality”. The method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative approach. Further, this study utilised information from Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka’s speech “Impatient for Change: Global Action Gender Equality” and concentrated on the topic of gender inequality. The findings of the study revealed that: (a) there were 4 discourse topics found: ‘Impatience for Gender Equality’ 9 times (45%), ‘The Challenges for Gender Equality’ 4 times (20%), ‘Women’s full participation in peace processes and negotiations’ 3 times (15%), and ‘Gender equality is not only the work of UN Women’ 4 times (20%), and (b) there were 7 discourse strategies found: Burden 6 times (30%), Lexicalization 6 times (30%), Implication 2 times (10%), and Presupposition 3 times (15%), Hyperbole 1 time (5%), Disclaimer 1 time (5%), and Illustration 1 time (5%).

Abstract

This research investigated the types and levels of code mixing based on Deddy's podcast video on his YouTube channel. The aim of this research is to determine the types and the levels of code mixing in Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast. Qualitative the video, transcribing the video’s audio, identifying the code-mixing and level code- mixing, and re-checking. After the process, the result indicated that the most code-mixing used in the utterances of the guest star in Deedy's Corbuzier podcast video is intra-sentential with the total number is 108 method used in this study to analyze the data and describe the findings. There were 3 Podcast videos of Deddy Corbuzier anakyzed in this study: Agnez Mo.. Mantanku Ter…, Papa Meninggal, Azka Ikut Papa.. I Love You More Than You Know, 500 Juta Tuk Luna Maya.. Tapi.. Ada Tapinya..!!. Some methods followed to collect the data include searching the video, selecting and downloading the video, watching occurances, meanwhile followed by intra-lexical type is 7 occurances. Furthermore, the level of code mixing that mostly appears is clause type 50 occurances then followed by word level 36 occurances, phrase level 31 occurances, baster level 7 occurances, and idiom 1 occurances.

Abstract

This research investigated the types of illocutionary acts of presidential candidate in the first presidential candidate debate 2024. This research aimed at finding the types of illocutionary act as well as the intention. Descriptive qualitative method is used in this research. The data was analyzed using Austin (1962) and Searle (1976) theory. The finding revealed that there were 215 utterances of illocutionary acts in total from the 5 types, namely assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The candidates mostly used the assertive with informing and asserting acts. Anies Used 38 utterance of assertive, Prabowo used 23 utterances of assertive, and Ganjar used 30 utterances of assertive. The aimed of the act to establish the speaker’s credibility and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of certain issues. Anies used informing act with the intention to get public attention and sympathy. Prabowo used asserting act with the intention to convince the public. While, Ganjar used informing and asserting act with the intention to get public attention and sympathy as well as to convince the public. Anis and Ganjar were clearer and calmer in expressing their views while Prabowo was not very clear in expressing his views, he only emphasized firmness in defending the country without stating clear actions.
