Abstract

This article write to (1) describe the types of grammatical cohesion, (2) describe the grammatical cohesion markers are predominantly used (3) describe the effect of the use of grammatical cohesion markers. The data of this study are sentences containing grammatical cohesion markers. Sources of research data is a collection of short stories works Bintang Kecil di Langit yang Kelam Jamal T. Suryanata. Data were collected by way of reading and marking sentences containing grammatical cohesion markers and advanced engineering techniques as noted. The findings of the study are (1) the type of cohesion markers contained is this reference, substitution, ellipsis and conjuction, (2) types of grammatical cohesion markers are dominant markers used this reference 85%, (3) the effect of using grammatical cohesion contained the discourse coherence of meaning is to make it cohesive and coherent stories.

Abstract

This article aims to (1) describe mastery of vocabulary of class X students of SMA Negeri 6 Padang, (2) describe the argument essay writing skill of class X students of SMAN 6 Padang, (3) analyze the relationship between mastery of vocabulary with the argument essay writing skill of class X students of SMAN 6 Padang. The type of the study was descriptive quantitative research method and correlational approach. The data of this study were obtained using the test. The objective test was used to collect the data. The findings of the study showed relationship between the mastery of vocabulary with the argument essay writing skill of class X students of SMAN 6 Padang with correlation coefficient was 0,687.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the form, context and function of invective in the language of Minangkabau expression for people in Kenagarian Taluk District Lintau Buo Tanah Datar. The data of this study is the expression of Minangkabau people cuss at Kenagarian Taluk District Lintau Buo Tanah Datar. The data source is a primary source of oral sources as told by informants as the original speakers. Data collected using recording techniques, observing techniques, and techniques of record as advanced techniques. The study's findings include three things: (1) based on the form, can be classified into two types, expressing cursc which used by the society found in the form of words and phrases, (2) based on the context, it was found that in the two contexts or upset and emotional state in joking situation (3) based on the functions found eight: expressing resentment, express strong emotions and extreme, as a joke or comedy purposes, express intimacy in relationships, contempt, express achievement and irritated, threat and, as a means of disclosure astonishment.

Abstract

The problem in this research is the writing skill of the argumentative essay of Grade X students of SMK N 1 Batusangkar was low, so it needs a strategy that can improve the writing skills of argumentative essay. This research is a classroom action research by using descriptive method. The data described in a qualitative research based on observation sheets, field notes, and test. For the students’ achievement, data obtained from the performance tests by writing argumentative essay. This study was conducted in two cycles, each cycle had two meetings. The procedure of every cycle consists of four steps, namely (1) planning, (2) actions, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The subjects were students of class X. K.1 of SMK N 1 Batusangkar. They were 34 students. Based on the description and analysis of the finding, some conclusions can be drawn: First, the process of learning by using Contextual Approach in teaching writing of argumentative essay ran well.  Second, the average writing skills test in writing argument essay by using Contextual Approach increased from 23.53% in first cycle to 94.11% in the second cycle.

Abstract

This research is aimed to explain about the process of using asking-answering technique with the help of picture as media in improving writing ability of descriptive text in the third grade students of SMP 2 Sungayang.This research is a Class Action Research and qualitative research (class action research) that involves: (1) action planning (2)action implementing (3) result observation, and (4) reflection. This research is implemented in two cycles, they are cycle 1 and cycle 2. Ctcle 2 is implemented based on evaluation result at cycle 1. Researcher as presenter in the process of learning, whereas as observer and collaborator is an Indonesian Language teacher in the third grade class of SMP 2 Sungayang.The result of the research shows using asking- answering technique with the help of picture as media in teaching writing descriptive text is effective to improve students’ ability in writing descriptive text. From the result of this class action research, it can be taken a conclude that teaching writing descriptive text by using asking-answering with the help of picture as media improve students’ learning result of the third grade students of SMP 2 Sungayang.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are: 1) describing the kinds of behavior of sexual digress in Nayla novel masterpiece of Djenar Maesa Ayu with Tabula Rasa novel masterpiece of Ratih Kumala, 2) describing factor of causing behavior of sexual digress in both of novel, 3) describing analogies and differences of behavior of sexual digress in both of novel. The datum collect by descriptive method the following research finding. The first, kinds of behavior of sexual digress in the both of novel are homosexual (lesbian and gay), pedophilia. The second, factor of causing behavior of sexual digress in the both of novels are psychologycal, sociocultural, and education and family factor. The third, analogies and differences behavior of sexual digress in both of novels are 1) analogies are homosexual (gay), obscenity, masturbation, and adultery. Aspect personality of dominant figure in Nayla novel is ego while Tabula Rasa is id.

Abstract

The purpose of this research are  (1) to describe kinds of social conflict in the collection of short story Perempuan Bawang dan Lelaki Kayu created by Ragdi F. Daye, (2) the cause of social conflicts in the collection of short story Perempuan Bawang dan Lelaki Kayu created by Ragdi F. Daye. Data source in this research is the collection of story Perempuan Bawang dan Lelaki Kayu created by Ragdi F. Daye. Publish 2010, first editor, published by PT. Lingkar Pena Kreativa publisher. According to the description data and the study, it can be concluded what kinds of social conflict, what are the canses of social conflint that accur in the series if short strories Perempuan Bawang dan Lelaki Kayu created by Ragdi F. Daye as followed: 1) problems about proverty and job field are caused by economic factors that are proverty, unemployement appear in Perempuan Bawang short story and perhaps Mungkin Jibril Asyik Berzapin. 2) problems of crine are caused by cultural factors such as misuse of authority and position, people who still use violence in solving problems appear in Seekor Anjing Yang Menangis, Lekuk Teluk, and Rumah Yang Mengigil short strories. 3) problems of disorganized family are caused by cultural factors of divorce and problems of age in Jarak and Rumah Lumut short stories. 4). Problems of young generation that are caused by cultural factor that is the deliquency of children appear in Bibir Pak Gur Bengkok. 5) problems of religion and believe that are caused by  cultural factor that is the difference of understanding belive of religion perhaps that appear in Kubah.

Abstract

The article aims to describe the use of different languages​​ by presenter infotainment Indosiar terms of accuracy and suitability choice of words. The research datais an extract speech language diversity in the television presenter infotainment KISS Indosiar, while that will be thesource ofthe data is KISS on television infotainment Indosiar. Data collected by recording technique andrecord engineering. The findings ofthe studyare, (1) variety of languageused by the presenter infotainment KISS in Indosiar are various casual, (2) appropriate selection of words seen by the useof synonyms, words of his own creation, and foreign words, (3) the suitability of the choice of words seen by the use of popular words, words of jargon and slang words.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were (1) describe the kind of figure of speech that contained in the lyrics of the song in Elly Kasim’s Top Hits Volume album 2. (2) describe the function of figure of speech in the lyrics of the song in Elly Kasim’s  Top Hits Volume 2 album. The data of research are the lyrics of songs in the album Top Hits 1960-1970 Volume 2 Elly Kasim. Sources of the research data are the songs in the cassette album Top Hits 1960-1970 Volume 2, produced by Elly Kasim S. Suryaman Group. Album Top Hits Volume 2 1960-1970 Elly Kasim consist of 18 song titles. Data were collected with eight techniques. 1) Play the cassette tape album Top Hits 1960-1970 Volume 2 by Elly Kasim and listen the lyrics of the song playing. 2) Take note of the lyrics of the song that you listen. 3) Read all of the lyrics of the song, 4) Marking figure of speech using words in the song lyrics, 7) Deciphering the lyrics into Indonesian. 6) Determine the theme and the message of song 7) inventory figure of speech contained in the lyrics of the song, 8) Interpreting the function of figure of speech. The result of the study that found 13 kinds of figure of speech of 18 song titles, there are 5 kinds of  theme and the message of the 18 song titles and functions of each figure of speech.

Abstract

The article focus on description and an analysis; (1) types of social moral value which reflection on novel of Bukan Pasar Malam by Pramoedya Ananta Toer; and (2) fungtion of social moral value which reflection from novel of Bukan Pasar Malam by Pramoedya Ananta Toer. This research uses qualitative methodes with descriptive method and also use objective method and mimesis. The analysis material with this description use analysis material based on type of consep and fungtion moral value, then interpretation material that we analysis based on the theory. This research include type and the fungtion moral value that reflection in novel of Bukan Pasar Malam by Pramoedya Ananta Toer is helping, love, understanding, care, togetherness, and also the fungtion of moral value as level of social, motivation, guideline, and monitoring sosial person.
