Abstract

The main components of the watershed which are potentially contaminated, are bodies of water and soil. Deterioration of water quality in the watershed, among others, is caused by industrial waste water disposal systems and household waste along the river resulting pollution. Lamongan district is located at sub watershed of Solo river downstream. Data distribution of Pb and Cu in water and paddy soil of sub watershed Solo downstream was limited, therefore this research was done. The research was conducted in 2009. The aim of the research was to get data distribution of heavy metal Pb and Cu in paddy soil and water watershed Solo downstream Lamongan district. Soil samples were taken with a modified grid system, by collecting a composite soil samples representing of area about 10-15 ha, while the water samples taken at a depth of 25-30 cm of water surface. The result showed the water quality of the river from 9 sampling sites, there were 7 location of BOD value already exceeding the maximum value for agriculture water. While the COD value and electrical conductivity at 1 and 3 locations respectively already exceeded the maximum. Cu was detected at all sampling sites, while Pb was detected only in 5 locations. Pb and Cu levels was below the maximum limit specified in PP No. 21, 2001. Cu in soils was detected at all sites, while there were 4 locations that Pb was not detectable, levels of Pb and Cu in soils were still under the specified threshold.

Abstract

Shifting cultivation is a farming system  in which farmers  cultivate through a movement of activity from a place to another  in the secondary or primary forest. Wemale tribe in the Inamosol District of West Seram Regency are able to open forest area about 0.2 – 1.0 hectare in each year for practing the shifting cultivation. To understand how Wemale tribe practiced the shifting cultivation, a research has been  conducted with the main objevtive to know the factors that determined  the variation of the land size of the shifting cultivation. The method used in the research was by interview and direct observation in the field. The results of the research indicated that variation of land size of the shifting culvation that was practiced by the Wemale tribe were the number of  household labors and the number  of children in the household that were still active in the process of education

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to estimate responses of several sweet potato genotypes in preservation media through in vitro slow growth preservation, and to achieve cheap and accessible media. Experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with a single factor. The experimental factor was sweet potato genotype (Sukuh, 421.34,343.15 and 2040.8). These genotype were tested in a preservation media which consisted of 15% coconut water +  30 mg/l aspirin + 50 g/l sucrose + 7 g/l agar. Experiment was replicated four times. Data was analyzed parametrically and non-parametrically. The result showed that genotype gave high responses to preservation media. Genotype Sukuh produced highest leaves while genotype 421.34 yielded highest numbers of root and internode. In the preservation medium of Genotype Sukuh through in vitro slow growth preservation, aspirin could be added to inhibit growth by increased leaf senesence. This experiment also showed that Hiponex (20:20:20) could be used as the basic media for in vitro preservation of sweet potato

Abstract

Juwana sub-watershed is a downstream region of the watershed Jragung Tuntang Serang Lusi and Juwana (Jratunseluna). Upstream watershed conservation and the middle of the forest or shrub which is cultivated to vegetable farm will accelerate the degradation of water resources and aggravate the residues of fertilizer and pesticide pollution into the watershed downstream. Soil (sediment) carried by surface runoff is also a major agent of the carrier pollutants in the runoff. Identification of heavy metal content of Pb in soil and grain in Sub-watershed wetland Juwana was conducted in 2009 by survey method. The research objective was to get the data and distribution of heavy metals Pb at sub-watershed wetland Juwana. Surveys and soil sampling grain was approached along Sub-watershed, land forms and sources of contaminants, thus representing samples taken at certain areas were considered homogeneous. Determining the location of the sample in this study will be used as the basis of information in making the map.. The results showed that the metal content of Pb in soils ranged from 0.23 to 2.89 ppm, and Pb in the grain ranged from 0.23 to 1.23 ppm, below the threshold determined value by WHO (2 ppm).

Abstract

Lettuce vegetable has high economic value and have a good prospect to increase famers income. Bokashi is organic fertiliser that can be used to increase the plant growth and production. The purpose of research were to investigate the influence of all sorts of bokashi composition of composted cocoa kernel and different doses of EM4  on the growth and production of lettuce. The research materials were lettuce germ that have attained the age of two weeks. The treatments were statistically designed with two factors and three repetitions. The treatments consisted of without bokashi (B0/control), B1=25 %, B2=50 %, B3=75 %, B4=100 % and EM4 (E0=control), E1=5ml/l water, E2=10ml/l water, E3=15ml/l water. The result showed that bokashi influenced significantly on the growth of lettuce. Level of bokashi 100 % was the best treatment, as measured from the height of the plant growth, leaf wide, fresh weight of crown and fresh weight of root, while the number of leaf was better at treatment of bokashi level 75 %.

Abstract

Azotobacter chroococcum based biofertilizers have been widely used in the production of environmentally agriculture. For commercial scale, cheap growth media for Azotobcter inoculant  will affect the quality and price of liquid biofertilizer. Growth medium should support cell proliferation as well as its  nitrogen fixation and phytohormone production.  The objective of this study was to determine whether  liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) containing low N can be used as a medium for scaling up  A. chroococcum inoculant without lowering the survival of bacteria and its activity in N2 fixation and phytohormones production. LOF generally contains a complete nutrient although in a small quantities. Experiment was set up in completely randomized design which tested two types of commercial LOF. The results showed that both of  LOF were only able to support cell growth up to 72 hours and at 96 hours cell viability began to decline compared to the control medium,  free-N Ashby. At 72 hour total N and cytokinin  concentration in LOF was lower than those in Ashby media. This study revealed  that LOF  could be used as A. chroococcum growth media, but without optimization of its composition, cell density and cytokinin content would be lower than those of inoculant  in Ashby Media.
