Abstract

Improvement growth and yield of celery in a polybag with sand media needs fertilizer and growth hormones tostimulate plant growth. The aim of this study was to determine the effect Gandasil D and Atonik on the growth andyield of celery (Apium grafeolens L.) grown in sand in polybag. The experiment was arranged in FactorialRandomized Block Design to tested liquid fertilizer Gandasil D concentration (without and with 1.0 g/L, 1.5 g/Land 2.0 g/L) and growth hormone Atonik concentrations (without and with 1.5 mL/L, and 2.0 mL/L). The resultsshowed that only liquid fertilizer Gandasil D which showed a significant effect on the growth of  celery.Application of Gandasil D at a concentration of 2.0 gwas/L  the best concentration to increase plant height, number of tillers, leaf number and fresh shoot weight.

Abstract

Contaminant levels of cadmium (Cd) in tin mine tailings often exceeds the upper limit.  Relatively high Cd content might  decrease crop yields and threatened food chain. Bioremediation by using  indigenous microbes to lower soil Cd shoud be done prior to use tailings for cultivation. The objective of this experiment was to obtain information about the capacity of  indigenous bacterias to induce bacterial proliferation  in the rhizosphere, corn growth during the early vegetative stage and change the concentration of Cd in soil and plants. Pot experiment was set up in  a Randomized Block Design consist of several combination of  two bacterial isolates and their doses.  Maize seeds were sown in  tailings from the mine site on the island of Bangka and inoculated with indigenous bacteria. The results showed that the bacterial inoculation increased number of bacteria in the rhizosphere  and plant height, but only isolates BKH1 with a dose of 5 mL/plants that increased plant dry weight. Soil Cd content decreased when inoculated by bacteria although not statistically significant, while the effect of inoculation on plant Cd uptake was inconsistent.

Abstract

Water fern Azolla microphylla symbioses with Anabaena azollae which is able to fix N2. Fern growth is strongly influenced by the availability of macro nutrients such as phosphate. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of concentration of phosphate fertilizers and different water levels on the growth and nitrogen uptake of Azolla microphylla. Research was conducted by using randomized block design with three replications. The treatment were  water level which consists of 0 cm, 2 cm, 4 cm, and 6 cm, and the concentration of phosphates (P) which is composed of without and with  15 ppm, 30 ppm and 45 ppm. The results showed that the water level are interdependent with the phosphates concentration to influence  Azolla’s covered area at  7-21 days after planting, wet weight, total dry weight, and total nitrogen uptake of Azolla microphylla. The water level 2 cm at a concentration of 30 ppm of phosphate fertilizers is the best treatment combination to increase Azolla’s covered area at 7-21 HST, wet weight, total dry weight, and total nitrogen uptake of Azolla microphylla.

Abstract

Pest is one of the biological limiting factors that led to low production of potatoes. The use of pesticides is a solution in controlling pests. The objective of this study was to determine the diversity and evenness of insect; and potato yield losses due to insecticide applications methods. The treatment was controlled and intensive insecticide application which were compared with no insecticide application.  The experiment was set up in completely randomized design with five replications. The results showed that the insects are dominated by Empoasca sp, Liriomyza sp and Miridae. The highest insect population was Empoasca sp. i.e 80.83 Empoasca sp. which was found in control treatment. Controlled and intensive  application of insecticides decreased insect  population up to 56.50 and 26.17. Evenness index of insect and economic value of lost results unaffected by differences in pesticide application methods

Abstract

The objective of  research was to identify potential plants in order to be utilized as medicinal plant in the yard by community at Cimenteng village in Ujung Kulon National Park Area. Survey and interview method has been carried out with quantitative and qualitative approach. Data was collected by using explorative survey with interview and direct observation in fieldl; and  analyzed descriptively. The result indicated that 48 plants have been identified and shown  medicinal property; among them 20 plants cultivated in yard and 28 plants grown wildly around the yard. If the plants  managed well, then Cimenteng village has an opportunity to be developed as agrotourism village. More than 30 medicinal plants area can be developed as tourism object which is economically will give a benefit for the community.

Abstract

The use of biofertilizers is important to prevent the negative impact of the synthetic fertilizers in vegetable production.  This study aimed to determine the effect of single biofertilizer  Azotobacter, and consortial biofertilizer which consist of nitrogen fixer bacteria and pohosphate solubilizing bacteria on the growth and yield of green cabbage (Brassica juncea L). The experimental designed was  randomized block design with five replications. Green cabbage seedling were inoculated with biofertilizer Azotobacter and consortial biofertilizer  on the growth and yield of green cabbage. Plants with consortial biofertilizer showed better growth and yield than that received single biofertilizer. Consortial biofertilizer  can increase plant height and shoot fresh weight up to 15.68 % and 17.05 %, while those with  Azotobacter  were 7.77 % and 9.58 % consecutively, compared with plants control.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to examine in vitro and in vivo anti fungal activity of citronella leaves extract against Colletotrichum sp caused antrachnose disease on chilli. The in vitro and in vivo research used randomized completely design (RCD) with one factor and five level. The factor was citronella leaves extract and the level were 0,1 % (v/v), 0,2 % (v/v), 0,3 % (v/v), 0,4 % (v/v), 0,5 % (v/v). Negative control treatment was conducted by growing Colletotrichum sp on PDA (in vitro) and chili (in vivo) without citronella leaves extract while positive control was conducted by growing Colletotrichum sp on PDA (in vitro) and chili (in vivo) containing synthetic fungicide. The in vitro study showed that the higher concentration of citronella leaves extract caused higher growth inhibition of Colletotrichum sp. Whereas the in vivo study resulted that higher concentration of citronella leaves extract caused lower incubation period of Colletotrichum sp, intensity of disease and weight loss of chillies. The highest concentration of citronella leaves extract (0,5%) has higher antifungal activity compared to other treatments and negative control while lower than positive control.

Abstract

The availability of soil in water is needed to run an everyday life, especially for living beings. The availability of groundwater is highly dependent on the good hydrological patterns, whereby if rain occurs with sufficient criteria then groundwater will be available as much as we need, but if the hydrological cycle becomes disrupted as a result of meteorological phenomena such as el nino then it will decrease water content in the soil. El nino phenomenon that occurred in 1997-1998 had a profound influence on the availability of groundwater, especially on the island of Ambon. Based on the analysis of water balance on the island of Ambon in 1997-1998, water deficit (drought) was so significant in the mid to late 1997 and in 1998. This certainly greatly affected the agricultural sector which is very dependent on the availability of water ground. The dynamics of the atmosphere has changed significantly, Both the government and the other correspond institution must anticipate the impact of water shortages on agriculture.
