Abstract

Mutation breeding  using gamma-ray irradiation is one way to improve thevariability of bambara groundnuts. Improved variability can increase the effectiveness of selection on bambara groundnuts. The objective of this research was to obtain some genotypes of bambara groundnut of M2 generation that are of early maturity and high yield from gamma-ray irradiation through phenotypic selection. The experimental design was Spatial Plan, using the descriptive-comparative method. Bambara groundnuts accessions (KB-29 (1)) were treated with gamma-ray irradiation with different doses namely 100 Gy, 150 Gy, and 200 Gy. The results of this study showed that the phenotypic variability of the population irradiated by gamma rays 100 Gy, 150 Gy, and 200 Gy on the character of flowering time, harvest time, and all yielding ability characters was broad. The results of selection obtained 30 of the best genotypes that have advantages in the character of early maturity based on scoring value.

Abstract

Saline soil contain excessive NaCl content which inhibit plant growth and lead to nitrogen deficiency. Endophytic bacteria live inside the plant tissue and has the ability to fix nitrogen directly from the atmosphere, meanwhile Azolla pinnata can be used as organic ameliorant that able to increase the number of availability nitrogen for plant in soil, and improve the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil. The aims of this experiment were to find out the treatment that cause highest nitrogen uptake by plant, total-N of soil, and dry weight of rice in saline soil. The experimental design was randomized block design with eight treatments and four repetitions. The results showed that the application of biofertilizer and ameliorant increased nitrogen uptake by plant and dry weight of rice in saline soil, but there was no significant effect on  total-N of soil. This experiment suggested that endophytic bacteria biofertilizer and Azolla pinnata were effective to increase dry weight and nitrogen uptake of rice grown in soil with EC between  2 dS m-1 - 4 dS m-1.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of organic fertilizer waste biogas cow dung on the growth and production of red curly chili plants. The experiment was carried out at Mariyat Village Farmer Land, Mariat District, Sorong District, from August to October 2016. The experiment used 4 treatment of organic fertilizer of cow dung biogas waste with dosage 0, 6, 9, 12 kg / plot, designed using random block design with repeated three times. The results showed that, the application of organic fertilizer biogas waste cow dung affect the plant height, the number of productive branches, the age of flowering, the number of fruit, fruit length, fruit weight per plant and the production of red curly pepper plants. Giving at a dose of 12 kg per plot gives a better effect than with a lower dose.

Abstract

The use of synthetic chemicals to control plant pest should to be limited by utilizing natural products so that environmental contamination can be reduced and crop yields are safe to eat. The aim of this research is to get the effective concentration and application time of hutung fruit (Barringtonia asiatika) extract to control Maruca testulalis pod borer on long bean. The experiments design was complety randomized block design with treatments of  5% extract of hutung fruit with interval of time of two days application, 5% extract of nutmeg with time interval of three days application, 10% extract of nutmeg with time interval of two days application, 10% fruit extract hutung with a three-day application time interval. Two control treatments were 0.1% Decis insecticide with a three-day application time interval three replications and without any treatment. The result showed that 10% hutung fruit extract with two days application time interval was the best treatment and could decrease the intensity of Maruca testulalis pest borer attack on long bean up to 39,14%.

Abstract

Ultisol is low fertility soil and as low available P due to P fixation by Al and Fe. The phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSM) is the microbial group that enable realease fixed-P to soil solution and be absorbed by plant. This research was aimed to determine the effects of PSM biofertilizer and phosphate fertilizer dosage combination on soil potential P, total phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) population and yield of maize (Zea mays L.) grown in Ultisols. This research used a Randomized Block Design that consist of nine treatments with three replications. The treatments were 100 kg ha-1 of SP-36 fertilizer, 50 kg ha-1 of PSM biofertilizer, SP-36 fertilizer (50 kg ha-1 and 100 kg ha-1) with PSM biofertilizer (25 kg ha-1, 50 kg ha-1 and 75 kg ha-1) repectively. The result showed that the combination of PSM and phosphate fertilizer dosage had significantly effect on PSB total population and maize yield, but did not not on  potential P. This experiment suggested that SP-36 fertilizer with 50 kg ha-1 dosage and PSM biofertilizer with 50 kg ha-1 dosage is the best combination.

Abstract

Weeds in rice fields decrease the quantity and quality of yield. One of the methods used to control weeds is chemical herbicide. The objective of this research was to find out the effective dosages of herbicide Ethoxysulfuron 15 WG on weeds growth as well as growth and yield of rice plants var. Ciherang. This experiment was used Randomized Block Design with seven treatments and four replication. The Ethoxysulfuron doses trated to rice field  6 g/ha,  9 g/ha, 12 g/ha, 15 g/ha and 18 g/ha. The two control treatments were  mechanical weeding, and without weeding and herbicide. The experimental result showed that Ethoxusylfuron herbicide with the dosage of 9 g/ha could suppress the growth of weed Ludwigia adscendens, Ludwigia perrenis, Fimbristylis miliacea, other weeds, and total weeds and give a good impact on yield of rice plants.
