Abstract

This study aims: (1) To find out whether the Realistic Mathematics Learning approach influences students' mathematical communication skills. (2) To find out whether the increase in students' mathematical communication skills with the Realistic Mathematics Learning approach is higher than conventional learning. This type of research is experimental research using pretest-posttest control group design. The study population was all VII grade students of YPAK Galang SPM consisting of three classes. The research sample was selected using simple random sampling technique, so that the VII-A class as the experimental class and VII-C class as the control class were obtained with 37 students each. The data used in this study are quantitative data. Based on the analysis of the research data, the following results are obtained: (1) the results of the regression analysis obtained by the equation (Y) Ì‚ = 36,945 + 1,003X. And from the results of the correlation obtained that Realistic Mathematics Learning has a positive effect with a correlation coefficient of 0.944 and a coefficient of determination of 89.1%. So it can be concluded that Realistic Mathematics Learning influences students' mathematical communication skills. ; (2) the results of the t-test analysis with the value of t count = 4.489 and t table = 1.666 which means t count> t table, then the hypothesis Ho is rejected. So it can be concluded that the mathematical communication skills of students taught by Realistic Mathematics Learning are higher than the mathematical communication skills of students who are taught by conventional learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the cooperative Student Teams Achievement Devision (STAD) learning model on the ability to understand students 'mathematical concepts and students' responses to the STAD cooperative learning model type. This research method is a quasi experimental method. This research was conducted in State 2 Junior High School of Sorkam at the even semester of the 2016/2017 Academic Year. The sample of this study was class VIIIA as the experimental class and VIIIB as the control class. From the research data obtained a regression equation Y = 74,857 + 8.857X (there is a positive effect). The average value of students' understanding of mathematical concepts learned by the STAD cooperative learning model is 83,714, while the conventional learning model is 74,857. The coefficient of determination is 21.6%, meaning that 21.6% of the influence of the STAD type cooperative learning model on the ability to understand students' mathematical concepts. The results of the analysis of student responses were obtained (1) by 98.2% stating they were interested and the rest not; (2) amounting to 95.05% stating that there are benefits obtained and the rest not; (3) amounting to 86.78% stated that there were no obstacles experienced during the learning process and the rest stated there were; (4) 94.04% hoped the STAD type cooperative learning model was used in the learning process and the rest did not expect. So, it can be concluded that the student response is very positive because the average percentage of student approval responses to the STAD type cooperative learning model is ≥ 85%.

Abstract

This study aims to 1) determine the validity of the Mathematics learning CD assisted by Geometer’s Sketchpad Software with Jean Piaget's theory-based Constructivism approach; 2) determine the effectiveness of the Mathematics Learning CD assisted by Geometer’s Sketchpad Software with Jean Piaget's theory-based Constructivism approach. The method used in this research is research and development or research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The subject of this research is grade VIII-4 SMP St. Petrus Medan with 32 students. The type of data used is qualitative data and quantitative data. Based on data processing and discussion, the data obtained from the material expert validation results with a percentage of 85.4% are in the category of very valid, while the results of the validation of media experts with an average percentage of 87.3% are in the category of very valid so that the mathematics learning CD is said to be very valid . The effectiveness of mathematics learning CD assisted by geometer's sketchpad software with constructivism approach based on Jean Piaget's Theory can be seen from the following assessments: 1) Positive responses assessed by students with an average percentage of positive responses of 88.88% with a very positive category, and responses teachers with an average percentage of 84% with a positive category; 2) the results of observations of teacher activities in managing learning using CDs learning mathematics with an average percentage of 89.73% with very good categories and the results of observations of student activities with an average percentage of 86.66% with very good categories; 3) the test results of student learning outcomes is obtained classical completeness of 84.37% with a very high category. Based on these assessments it can be concluded that the use of mathematics learning CDs assisted by geometer’s sketchpad software with Jean Piaget's theory-based constructivism approach is valid and effective in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of students’ mathematical understanding abilities in class VII-2 SMP St. Thomas 3 Medan by applying the cooperative learning model type STAD assisted by geoboard. The method used in this research is classroom action research (CAR). The subjects in this study were students of class VII-2 St. Thomas Private School 3 Medan in the 2018/2019 Academic Year consisting of 32 students, 18 men and 14 women. From the research results it can be seen that there is an increase in students in students’ understanding ability by applying the geoboard-assisted type STAD cooperative learning model as follows: In the students’ mathematical early comprehension ability test is still realatively low, namely classical completeness obtained by 18.75% with very low categories. The results of the first cicle students’ mathematical understanding test that is obtained classical completeness of 53.12% with the medium category The results of the second cycle mathematical understanding test students obtained classical completeness 0f 84.37% with a high category. It can be seen that there is an increase starting from the ability of initial understanding, the ability to understand mathematical cycle I and mathematical understanding ability ability cycle II. So it can be concluded that the increase in students mathematical understanding abilities through the Geoboard-assisted STAD cooperative learning model increased from cycle I to cycle II, amounting to 31.25%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the application of the Problem Solving learning model can improve students' mathematical critical thinking skills. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects in this study were students of class VII SMP Yos Yoseph Medan, which consisted of 32 students. The object in this study is the Problem Solving learning model to improve students' critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems. Based on the analysis of research data, the results obtained are: the initial test of mathematical critical thinking ability of students is still relatively low that is obtained a classical average of 49.84, as many as 8 students who completed 25% with a percentage of 25% while students who did not complete as many as 24 people with 75% percentage. The results of the first cycle test after using the Problem Solving learning model obtained a classical average value of 63.90, 17 students completed with a percentage of 53.12%, while students who did not complete as many as 15 people with a percentage of 46.87%. In the second cycle after making improvements to the learning model Problem Solving obtained an increase in the classical average value of 75.78 students who completed 26 students with a percentage of 81.25% while students who did not complete as many as 6 people with a percentage of 18.75%. So it can be concluded that the Problem Solving learning model that has been applied can improve students' mathematical critical thinking skills. This is supported by the data obtained by the average classical completeness of students' mathematical critical thinking skills obtained by the Problem Solving learning model in cycle II higher than cycle I.

Abstract

This study aims to 1) find out the validity of Student Worksheets (LKS) through the Blended Learning model based on Sambas Malay culture, 2) find out the effectiveness of Student Worksheets (LKS) through the Blended Learning model based on Sambas Malay culture so that it can be used to study Arithmetic material Social in class VII of junior high school. This study uses the research and development method or research and development (R & D) development model of ADDIE with stages (1) Analysis (Analysis), (2) Design (Design), (3) Develop (Development), (4) Implement (Implementation) , (5) Evaluation. Based on data analysis and discussion, data obtained from material expert validation were obtained with an average total rating of 4.2 in the good category so that the Student Worksheet (LKS) was said to be valid. From the results of the study, it was found that the effectiveness of Student Worksheets (LKS) through the Blended Learning model based on Sambas Malay culture obtained several judgments through the learning outcomes test as follows: 1) Student learning completeness in a classical manner was 85.18% in the complete category; 2) Achievement of competency indicators with a percentage of 83.52% in the complete category; 3) The results of the observation of the teacher's ability to manage learning with an average value of 3.75 are in the excellent category; 4) Effective learning time for 4 meetings; 5) Questionnaire of student responses to LKS with an average rating of 4.52 in the positive category. Based on the analysis of the above data, it can be concluded that Student Worksheets (LKS) developed through the Blended Learning model based on Sambas Malay culture of Social Sciences Arithmetic class VII SMP are valid and effective to be used to support mathematics learning

Abstract

This study aims to 1) find out the validity of the use of Student Worksheets (LKS) based on the CTL approach, 2) determine the effectiveness of using Student Worksheets (LKS) based on the CTL approach so that it can be used in the Quadrilateral Build Flat material class VII Padang Bulan GKPI Private Middle School Field. This research is a research development (R & D) using the ADDIE learning development model with stages (1) Analysis (Analisis),  (2) Design (Design), (3) Develop (Development), (4) Implement (Implementation), (5) Evaluation (Evaluation). Based on the results of data analysis and discussion, it was obtained data from expert validation results with an average total rating of 4.25 in the very good category so that the LKS was said to be valid and feasible to use. The effectiveness of the LKS based on the CTL approach with the help of GeoGebra was seen from a number of assessments obtained through learning outcomes tests which included: 1) Classical learning completeness of students at 85.18% in the complete category; (2) Achievement of competency indicators with a percentage of 80.08% in the complete category; (3) The results of the observation of the teacher's ability to manage learning with an average value of 3.72 are in the very good category; (4) Effective learning time for four times; (5) Questionnaire of student responses to student worksheets with an average rating of 5.50 is in a very good category and every aspect is responded positively. Based on the results of the above data analysis, it can be concluded that the development of Student Worksheets (LKS) is based on the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach with the help of GeoGebra in the quadrangular Build Flat class VII GKPI Private Middle School Padang Bulan Medan is valid and effective used in supporting the process of learning mathematics.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how the development of Batak Toba culture-based mathematics learning media with a contextual approach and to find out how effective the development of Batak Toba culture-based mathematics learning media with a contextual approach is. The development of mathematics learning media was prepared using the ADDIE model. The subject of this research is class VII E with a total of 32 students. The type of data used is qualitative data and quantitative data. The first stage is the analysis phase. This stage is done to analyze the needs of research such as researchers conducting observations, interviews, and pretests. The next stage is the design of a mathematics learning media design in the form of Student Activity Sheets (LAS) based on the Toba Batak culture. The third stage is development, at this stage the learning media product is validated by the material expert and media expert validator to obtain the feasibility of the product that has been designed based on the results of the validation and the validator's suggestions and comments. The fourth stage is implementation, at this stage after the mathematics learning media product is validated then the product is tested. The last stage is evaluation, at this stage after the product is tested the final results of the field test in the form of a pretest and posttest are then analyzed and scores are obtained as a result of student learning. Based on the analysis of research data, the following results were obtained: (1) Student Activity Sheet (LAS) based on Toba Batak culture can be used for mathematics learning on the subject of rectangles and triangles in terms of the value given by the material expert and media validator 88% with a very valid and appropriate category to be used to improve student learning outcomes; (2) Increasing student learning outcomes by 56.25% this can be seen from the pretest students who completed as many as 11 people (34.37%) while students who did not complete as many as 21 people (65.63%). From the posttest students who completed as many as 29 people (90.62%) while students who did not complete as many as 3 people (9.38%); (3) The teacher's activities at the 1st and 2nd meetings achieved results (85.23%) and the student activities at the 1st and 2nd meetings achieved results (88.66%). So it can be concluded that student learning outcomes at posttest are higher than at pretest. Thus that mathematics learning media in the form of Student Activity Sheets (LAS) based on the Toba Batak culture are effective for use in improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) berbantuan aplikasi geometry calculator pada materi segiempat dan segitia pada kelas VII SMP Budi Murni 1Medan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Subjek penelitian yaitu siswa kelas VII SMP Budi Murni 1 Medan dengan jumlah siswa 26 orang. Objek penelitian adalah peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa dengan menerapkan model contextual teaching and Learning (CTL) berbantuan aplikasi geometrycalculator. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi dan tes. Observasi terdiri dari observasi guru dan observasi siswa. Tes yang diberikan yaitu tes kemampuan awal, tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa siklus I dan tes kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa siklus II. Hasil analisis data siklus I diperoleh observasi aktivitas guru 65% baik, observasi aktivitas siswa dengan nilai 61% (baik). Pada siklus I siswa yang sudah mencapai KKM 14 orang (53,84%) sedangkan yang belum mencapai KKM adalah 12 orang (46,16%). Nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus I adalah 55,03. Jumlah siswa yang tuntas secara klasikal belum mencapai 75%, maka dilanjutkan pada siklus II. Hasil observasi aktivitas guru pada siklus II dengan persentase 83,5% (baik sekali), observasi aktivitas siswa dengan persentase 81,5% (baik sekali) dan siswa yang sudah mencapai KKM adalah 23 orang (88,46%), siswa yang tidak mencapai mencapai KKM adalah 3 orang (11,54%) dan nilia rata-rata siswa pada siklus II adalah 77,50. Berdasarkan  analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) berbantuan aplikasi geometry calculator dapat meningkatakan kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa pada materi segiempat dan segitiga di kelas VII SMP Budi Murni 1 Medan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis kesalahan siswa dan factor-faktor penyebab kesalahan siswa kelas VIII SMP Santo Petrus Medan dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal matematika materi kubus dan balok berdasarkan prosedur Newman.Metode penelitian ini adalah  deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan metode tes tertulis dan wawancara. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIII SMP Santo Petrus Medan yang berjumlah 34 siswa.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan persentase kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika terkait materi kubus dan balok berdasarkan prosedur Newman adalah: (a) persentase kesalahan membaca yang dilakukan siswa sebesar 23%, (b) persentase kesalahan memahami konsep sebesar 38%, (c) persentase kesalahan transformasi sebesar 9%, (d) persentase kesalahan keterampilan proses sebesar 92%, (e) persentase kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir sebesar 81%.  Persentase kesalahan total siswa sebesar . faktor-faktor penyebab kesalahan siswa adalah tidak lancar membaca soal serta kurangnya pengetahuan tentang simbol-simbol yang terdapat dalam soal-soal  matematika,tidak memiliki kemampuan menuliskan hal yang diketahui dan ditanyakan dalam soal dengan benar,tidak menguasai materi kubus dan balok,asal-asalan mengerjakan soal,tidak menyukai pelajaran matematika,tidak pahan dengan metode penyelesaian yang digunakan dengan benar,tidak paham dengan rumus  yang seharusnya digunakan, terburu-buru dalam mengerjakan proses penyelesaian.
