Abstract

This study aimed to see differences in learning outcomes of Civics among students of SMAN 1 Pangkalan through the use of Numbered Head Together (NHT) method compared to the use of lecture method in the same subjects. This is a quantitative research using a design approach of quasy experiment. Data were analyzed by using the t test. Based on the experiments and the t-test the result of this study indicated that the mean in the experimental class (NHT class) amounted to 83.80% and the mean of the control class (lecture class) obtained a mean of 76.00%. The t-test results indicated that there are significant differences between the use of NHT and the use of lecture method in the level of 0.05 (5%). In other words NHT method is more effective than the lecture one. Kata Kunci: Hasil belajar, metode NHT, metode ceramah

Abstract

Mass media should ideally function as information, education and entertainment channels. However, in Indonesia, the mass media perform its function more as entertainment through many channels such as infotainment shows that more charged in Indonesian celebrity gossip. This often raises a lot of Indonesian social problems in society as one of the unplanned effects by the media. As part of the social sciences, science of communication should be able to provide insight to the media as communicators to be more intelligent to educate the people of Indonesia so many social problems that arise as a result of unplanned effects by the media could at least be minimized. Abstract

This article analyzes the existence of civics education learning as a value education in building the character of the nation. Imple-mentation of character education in schools should be grounded to the basic character values​​, which subsequently developed into the values ​​that better suit the needs, conditions, and school environment itself. Basically, success in life is not determined by a person's knowledge and skills, but also by the ability to manage themselves and others. This suggests that the quality of character education of students are very important to be improved. Character education in schools should begin by giving confidence to students to be able to do positive things in their everyday lives. Abstract

This action research aimed to increase learning achievement of students on Civic Education at grade XII SMA Negeri 1 Suliki, the District of Limapuluh Kota, through the implementation of Syteamama method. This study was conducted through an action research with two learning cycles and four steps for each step as suggested by Kemmis dan Taggart, that is planning, action, observation, and reflection. The finding of this study generally indicated that implementation Syteamama method could increase the learning achievement of students on civic education significantly, especially at grade XII SMA Negeri 1 Suliki, the District of Limapuluh Kota. Abstract

This study aims to describe the professionalism aspects of public service personnel at Department of Education in Padangpanjang City. This study uses a quantitative approach with the type of ex post-facto. The study population consisted of heads of household in Padangpanjang totaling 10,864 individuals and were spread in two districts and 16 villages. Sample was taken in two stages, cluster sampling and proportional stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using a statistical percentage, mean, and other central tendency according to research interests. Results of this study indicated that the professionalism of the public service personnel in the field of education in Padangpanjang is still not optimal. Abstract

This essay provides a preliminary analysis of the Mohammad Syafe’i’s educational thought, placing it within the context of the larger social and intellectual history of Indonesian society during the colonial time and after. The idea behind the establishment of the INS – the school founded by Sjafei in 1920s – justified and idealized  national education as  the form of intellectual resistance against the Dutch colonial regime on the basis of historical precedence found in Western educational expansion. This study traces (i) how did Sjafei develop his own philosophy of education? (ii) how did he redefine knowledge, education, schooling, teaching and learning? (iii) how did he challenge and change traditional concepts of education and curriculum as content of the whole learning processes? (iv) what the ideas or practices of the Syafei’s school contribution are present in today’s teaching and learning? (v) what contributions from his achievements are useful to the Indonesian national education in developing the country’s philosophy of education? In answering these questions, this article eventually comes to conclusion that in one way or another, one could qualify him as a pioneer of modern Indonesian education.
