<![CDATA[This study examines the Functional structure of Model A.J Greimas In Legends Lanting Mihing. The legend of Lanting Mihing is a folklore from the Kahayan river basin. This legend revolves around the courage of the central figure gained the expertise of how to make Lanting Mihing. The purpose of this writing is to know the structure in the legend story of Lanting Mihing the method in this writing is a qualitative method. To reveal the courage of this central figure then use functional structure theory proposed by A. J. Greimas. The results of Legend Lanting Mihing research led to a central figure named Bowak, there are 4 backgrounds in Legend Lanting Mihing ie background place, time, social, and psychology. Mandate delivered so that the younger generations do not forget the traditions that have been made by the ancestors, one of which way of making Lanting Mihing.]]>

<![CDATA[The aims of this research is to find out the teaching techniques and media used by the English teacher in teaching speaking to the seventh-grade students at SMP Brawijaya Smart School Malang. This is a case study research design. Instruments of this research are observation sheets, interview guides and documentation. The researcher observes all of the English teaching processes at the seventh-grade class. The researcher also interviews teachers and five students to get additional information. The documentation is used to confirm the data from observation. The result of the research shows that the English teachers use various teaching techniques namely question-answer display, translation, drilling, and discussion. The English teachers also use various teaching media namely human, printed, visual media and multimedia. However, the English teachers mostly use the question-answer display as teaching technique and printed media as the teaching media. Most students are interested in teaching techniques and the teaching media used by the teacher in teaching speaking. Based on the finding, the researcher has several suggestions for the English teacher and also for a further researcher. For the English teacher at SMP Brawijaya Smart School, the researcher suggests the teachers keep good things of teaching techniques and teaching media because the techniques are interesting. However, it will be better if the English teacher can give other teaching techniques and teaching media. Besides, it can also give the other views of the English teacher on teaching technique and teaching media. For further researchers, the study with a similar topic, the researcher suggests further researchers explore on more specific focus dealing with teaching technique or teaching media by conducting a research on more specific focus, it can be analyzed more deeply.]]>

<![CDATA[Seno Gumira Ajidarma is well-known as a multitalented popular figure in Indonesia. He is an artist, a humanist, a writer, an academician, and others. His works are always in excellent quality. They need an incredible depth level of intrinsic aspect exploration. Previous studies have shown that criticism against government of the New Ordermassively appears on Ajidarma’s writting. However, the criticism is well-hidden behind his expertise in word processing and stories composing or other excellent quality works. This research is aimed into Ajidarma's social critique in the following four short stories: “Pelajaran Mengarang”, “Sepotong Senja untuk Pacarku”, “Telinga”, dan “Maria” which are focused on the concept of gender and Other's conflict. Based on the concepts of the Holmes gender and the Other of Callavaro, as well as several supporting references, it comes into the following outcomes: gender conflicts are connected to inferiority and superiority; the non-acceptancy of certain criteria and many causes make the inferior is victimizedwith the arbitrariness of the ruler in such forms: doctrine, alienation, discrimination, detention, torture, even murder; inferiority is resembling the present situation and conditions in this country]]>

<![CDATA[Haiku is a literary kind of poetry that originated in Japan. Haiku initially have three major streams namely Teimon, Danrin, and Basho. Haiku has rules in writing that is using the 5-7-5 syllable construction, using kireji, and Kigo included therein. This study will use ten haiku of Matsuo Basho summer work in the book Oku no Hosomichi drawn randomly. This study uses structural semiotics, a method that examines the content of literature and semiotic approach. The semiotic approach used here is Riffaterre semiotic, namely heuristic reading, hermeneutic reading, matrices seeking, models, and variants, as well as the hipogram. <![CDATA[The use of Bahasa Indonesia as the language of instruction in the education process is a must. However, sometimes in some cases, the use of local language is needed by teachers in order to encourage better communication to students. This is a descriptive research. The purpose of the paper is to know the use of local language as the language of instruction at the primary school level. <![CDATA[The aim of this research is to discover word class and describing the morphological process of word-formation in Dayak Tunjung. This language is spoken by citizen of West Kutai Region, East Kalimantan. This research applies the qualitative method. The data is collected through survey and note-taking technique. The data is analyzed by using the word-paradigm and valency approach. The word-formation paradigm by affixation, reduplication, and composition to discover word derivation as noun, verb, adjective, and adverb. The valency model of word in sentence is applied to discover preposition and conjunction word class. <![CDATA[This study discusses three Indragiri folklores as literary teaching materials in elementary school in the effort to build students character. The purpose of this study is to introduce culture and oral tradition through literature in order to build the character of children. The type of this research is descriptive analysis. The three folktales are described and the good characters contained in the story that can be imitated and emulated by children is analyzed. The data were analyzed by applying moral approach. The result shows that the three Indragiri folklores contain good characters that can be imitated and emulated by children. Therefore, base on this study, it can be concluded that folklore can be used as a teaching material for literary learning at the elementary level in order to build children’s character]]>

<![CDATA[Poetry, as well as other literary works, is a speech. If poetry is a speech, it indicates the presence speaker and hearer. In this study, a poetry as speech is examined using pragmatic theories which include implicatures, language play, as well as the implications of the meaning to the reader as a hearer. This study will describe the Remy Sylado strategy and skill in the use of language elements in the creation of poetry that has the effect of humour for readers. The theory is used to dissect the data is pragmatic theory relating to implicature, cooperative principle, and politeness principle. The use of cooperative and politeness principle concerned with the analysis that these poems can be included in the category of humour. In general, humour was identified as a symptom that violates the language. The principle of inequality, unpredictability, and pornography is a humour characteristic. This carefully situations produced four strategies used by Remy Sylado to convey his ideas to the reader, namely puns, pornography, slip of the tongue, and unpredictability.]]>

<![CDATA[Meoli spell present as one performance package within custom ritual called meoli ritual. Meoli ritual is a politeness expression of the perpetrators in expressing the purpose of request permission or apology to the sangia as the ruler of nature when opening the land to grow crops. This study examines the value of politeness in the meoli spell with the ethnopoetic approach. The issues raised are how has the politeness value existed in the meoli spell. By applying qualitative research method, data collection is done by observation, interview, and literature study. From the analysis, it is known that the value of politeness in the meoli mantra embodies the priority scale in which the preferred is the custom observer, followed by an apology by mentioning the whole of the target, newly expressed by the expression of intent and hope as the core message of the meoli spell. <![CDATA[This research investigates the use of types and functions of code-switching used by Sacha Stevenson as a guest star in Tonight Show and Sarah Sechan on NET TV. Tonight Show and Sarah Sechan are two popular talk shows on NET TV. In order to find the type and the function of code-switching used, the writer uses descriptive qualitative approach. The data is in the form of conversation. In order to collect the data, the writer compiles videos based on the sequence and the context of the conversation. The result shows that the types of code-switching found in both sources are intra-sentential code-switching, inter-sentential code-switching and establishing continuity toward previous speaker emblematic or tag-switching. The functions of code-switching found in both data sources are covering the difficulty in speaking Indonesian, reducing or avoiding face and increasing prestige to be viewed as an educated person and covering inability in speaking Indonesian. This research cannot do a direct interview with Sacha Stevenson. Therefore, it can give chance to other researchers to find the reason of using code-switching used by Sacha Stevenson which can be applied by observing and interviewing her immediately]]>
