Journal Albion Journal of English Literature, Language, and Culture. Journal Albion : Journal of English Literature, Language and Culture with registered number e-ISSN 2657-0696 invites submission of studies co-authored by faculty, students, and or community partners in the areas of English literature, linguistic, and culture. Journal Albion: Journal of English Literature, Language and Culture accepts articles in any literary related subjects and any research methodology that meet the standards established for publication in the journal The articles must be written in English. Journal Albion : Journal of English Literature, Language and Culture is published twice a year in April and October by The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Pakuan University. It has been published biannually since January 2019. Any submitted paper will be reviewed by reviewers. The review process employs a double-blind review that the reviewer does not know the identity of the author, and the author does not know the identity of the reviewers.

Abstract

This article is interested in analysing the referring expressions of 18 of Indonesia top tourist destinations 2018 and how they portray Indonesia tourism. The primary and secondary data are taken from the official website of Ministry of Tourism. Data are collected using simak method with note taking technique. Data are analysed using identity method. Referring expression theories are adapted from Yule (1996), Kreidler (1998) and Huford and Heasly (2007). The articles in the official website promoting 18 of Indonesia top tourist destination 2018 reveal there are 79 referring expressions. Through the referring expressions, Indonesia is portrayed as having world class tourism and rich in historical background. Referring expressions also explains tourist destinations which are shown as modern and being the center of trade. It informs tourist destinations which are developing and having unique qualities. Superlatives which are found in many referring expressions imply that Indonesia is the best in terms of its tourism.Keywords: referent; referring expression; tourist destination.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the antagonist in order to show the form of terror through acts of terror committed by the antagonist in Nicholas Sparks See Me. Processing data in this analysis uses descriptive-analytical methods and literature studies that are based on intrinsic and extrinsic elements as well as previous research on psychoanalytic terror. Based on the results of the analysis, the antagonist committed to acts of terror to Maria and this is expressed through every act of terror that he does. In addition, the antagonist does not have a mental disorder and this action is purely carried out on the basic of the hatred he holds, then turns into a desire to take revenge by committing acts of terror over his daughters death. The three acts of terror carried out by Avery were first, manipulating people, second, sending threatening message, and third by carrying out acts of violence which are part of the acts of terror.Keywords: antagonist; characterization; revenge; terror.

Abstract

Cultural conflict can occur because the diversity of cultures, religions, and races. When we refuse to learn about other cultures, stereotype, misinterpretation and tendency to change attitudes toward other ethnicity might happen. The purposes of this thesis is to explore the cultural conflict and the settlement in Kevin Kwans novel Crazy Rich Asian. This novel presents Rachel Chu and Nicholas Young as the central character. The research is conducted by means of descriptive analysis method. The results shows that the cultural conflicts experienced by Rachel and Nick were caused by stereotypes, misunderstandings, ethnocentrism and materialism, a high sense of selfishness that made the conflict continue without any resolution.Keywords: Crazy Rich Asian; Cultural Conflict; Culture.

Abstract

This study is aimed to identify the kinds of presupposition and the triggers used by the characters in the movie Gifted. It is also aimed to interpret the implicit meaning in them and to describe the common ground between the speakers and the listeners. This study is a qualitative research using descriptive analysis method. The data are collected by using uninvolved observation and note-taking technique. The analysis result shows that there are 54 data of presupposition usages and common ground. According to the analysis, presupposition and common ground commonly appear more in daily communication caused by the triggers of implicit assumption, the close relationship between the speakers and the listeners, and the community they are attending.Keywords: common ground; presupposition;character.

Abstract

The main topic in this research is changes in the main character as a person with Asperger's syndrome in Kathryn Erskines Mockingbird. The process of this research involves the whole story, intrinsic elements: character and characterization, conflict, and setting. This qualitative research is supported by descriptive analysis method and library research technique that shows the main character as a person with Asperger's syndrome can experience character changes even though the research states that person with this syndrome is quite difficult to progress in terms of social interaction. A person with asperger syndrome has a persistent nature, but gradually the main character is able to pass through all the processes of change in her life. Abstract

This researchs titled is "Traumatic Experiences and Psychopathic Traits in the Novel Hannibal Rising by Thomas Harris: A Psychological Study of The Main Character". This study aims is to show the effect of childhood traumatic memory on the psychopathic traits of the main character using intrinsic and extrinsic approach. This study also uses descriptive analysis methods and library research technique. The main character in this novel is Hannibal, he is a medical student who experiences post-traumatic stress disorder which is the result of the death of his sister. This resulted in Hannibal having psychopathic traits. His psychopathic trait has both negative and positive side. The negative side is effected by his aunt and led him to some of the  murder cases that killed the criminals who killed his sister. The positive side however, despite his psychopathic traits and improper actions, he manage to achieve success in his career which indicates his remarkable accomplishment.Keywords : memory; trauma psychopathic traits; psychologica.

Abstract

This study discusses about the fight against gender-based discrimination in Yale Needs Women novel by Anne Gardiner Perkins. In the novel, discrimination is derived from heteronormative attitudes in the community. Biased heteronormative opinions are widespread throughout the community. The existence of these attitudes is nothing more than a continuation of the patriarchal ideologies inherent in cultural and political systems for centuries. This research uses qualitative analysis methods and contains a number of intrinsic elements in the form of characters and characterizations, settings, and plot as well as extrinsic elements, namely the perspective of cultural studies focused on patriarchal concepts and feminism. The results of the research prove that gender discrimination can be eradicate and women should fight to get their rights back.Keywords : discrimination; patriarchal concepts; feminism.
