Abstract

This study aims to identify and know the discharge of water and sedimentation in the area Upper of Sub-Das Komering South Sumatera. The results of study indicate the biophysical conditions of the majority Sub-watershed upstream relative Komering particularly disturbed hydrological conditions, which thought caused by the expansion of the clearing for various activities with land use patterns that are less appropriate. The average value river discharge of water in Sub watershed Komering ranged from 0.89 to 1566.51 m3/second. The average value of the largest river discharge in the river there Komering, while the average value of the smallest river discharge in the river there Kejantor. Total sediment load in each sub-sub Komering upstream watershed is approximately 140,721.73 tons / day, but the sediment load in rivers measured at the main Komering only about 128,579.14 tons / day then there is still a difference of approximately 12142.6 tons / day , is expected because of the large load of sediment that settles on the way of water from upstream into the river Komering.Keywords: discharge of water , sedimentation; Komering watershed

Abstract

Food contains nutrients, including carbohydrate which has major role in energy production needed for internal and external activities. Several kinds of carbohydrate, such as inulin (fruktan) and fructooligosacharides (FOS) were proven be able to modify physiologic and biochemical process, specifically fatty acids and cholesterol metabolism. These fact showed that this both carbohydrate compounds biologically active in influencing blood lipid profile, including tryasilglycerol (TAG) or tryglycerides. Both compounds have been claimed as functional food ingredients. Health effect of inulin and FOS will be emerged if the subject has enough energy and nutrient intake. In Indonesia, clinical trial of health effect of functional food ingredient on human is difficult to be done because of problem in controlling entirely the subject food consumption. This study was done on dyslipidemic subject that fulfill inclusion requirement and willing (informed consent) to follow all experiment procedures for 21 days, with their daily food consumption pattern as usual. Dyslipidemic subjects are out patient in Subandi Hospital in Jember. Therefore, they have been given nutrition consultation from specialized medical doctor in cardiovascular diseases and from nutrition unit as well. This experiment aims to evaluate the effect of inulin and FOS intake from Nutrafosin beverage consumption on tryglycerides level of dyslipidemic whom their consumption pattern was as usual. Food consumption data was gained through 24 hours Recall Method for 3 days. Energy requirement was determined based on relative body weight (RBW). This experimental study was a clinical trial as a pararel matched pairs design. The intended sample were choosen from accesible population thru non-probability and consecutive sampling. One cup of Nutrafosin beverage contained 2 g inulin powder and 50 ml FOS that given by single blinding placebo designed to 16 dislipidemic subject for 21 days consumption orally. Tryglycerides level measurement was done at 0 days and 22th days. The tryglycerides level difference between before and after treatment from placebo and treatment groups was analyzed using statistical T-test pair at 95 % confidence interval. The result showed that Nutrafosin beverage consumption by dyslipidemic for 21 days decreased trygycerides by 18.5 percent, significantly (Tc= 1,108 < Ttab = 2,365).Kata kunci : inulin, fructooligosacharide (FOS), tryglycerides, dysl ipidemic, dietary fibreconsumption pattern

Abstract

Processing corn into flour will produce byproducts of corn grits as a potential source of instantcorn rice. Modification of seed soaking in the manufacture of corn starch can alter the characteristics of the product. Efforts to increase the protein content in rice can be done in an instant corn flour substitute tempeh. The study aims to determine 1) the influence of soaking corn and soybean meal proportion of chemical and sensory properties of instant corn rice, and 2) determine a combination of soaking corn and the proportion of soybean flour that produces the best chemical and sensory properties of instant corn rice. This research used Randomized Design Group with two factors and three replications. Factor is tested is the process of soaking the seeds in the manufacture of white corn flour; that is, without soaking (P1) and a 24-hour soaking (P2), as well as variations in tempeh flour substitution (T) which consists of five levels, namely 0% (T0); 10 % (T1); 20% (T2); 30% (T3) and 40% (T4). The results showed the best of instant corn rice products is treatment combination of 20% soybean flour substitution and with 24-hour soaking (P2T2). The product has a soluble protein content 1.22% (bk), 2.76% fat content (bk), water content 6.98% (bk); carbohydrate 77.33%, with 2.44 color (yellow), texture 1 , 62 (a bit fluffier), a sense of 1.73 (rather good), corn aroma 2.11 (feeling) and the 2.38 level preferences (likes).Keywords: instant corn rice, soybean flour, soaking

Abstract

Temperature, noise and lighting are the most problems faced by industries, especially at the Coco fiber production company. The objectives of this research were to evaluate the working environment factors such as temperature, noise, and lighting. This research was conducted at the Coco fiber production company namely CV Tiga Sehati at Ledokombo, Jember. Questionnaire was addressed to the workers in the processing area of company to get comments related to the working area. Discussion with key person was also implemented in this research to reach data. Direct measurement of working area environment was conducted using several tools such as thermometer, luxmeter and sound level meter. The average of temperature, humidity, noise and lighting were achieved at the level of 29.5oC, 62.9%, 88.9 dB and310.26 lux, respectively. Almost all of these results were higher than standard level. Some of working area improvement were strongly needed to keep safe, health and convenient of the workers.Keywords: ergonomic, work environment, coco fiber

Abstract

This article expose water demand and supply analysis for rural smallholders. The case study was done in Sidomulyo Village, Jember, East Java. Research metodhology include : (1) data inventory, (2) water demand, (3) water supply, (4) water balance analysis, and (5) Optimalisation using Linear Programming. Data was inventored by means of: land surveying, discharge measurement, water sampling, and questioner. Water supply was calculated by measuring discharge from the sources of water. Water demand was calculated by classifing user on three classes: (a) residential use, (b) poultry, and (c) coffee-processing-unit. Water balance was calculated by considering demand and suplly. Result showed that water supply form discharge is sufficient as compared to total water demand of the Sidomulyo village. Analysis using Linear Programming show the optimal water can be used for coffee processing unit during the two seasons.Keywords: Water Supply, Water demand, Water Balance, Linear Programing, Smallholder village

Abstract

PT. J.A. Wattie is local plantation which process robusta coffee in Jember. The main problem of Indonesian coffee is quality, which can not fulfill the requirement of international market quality. The several factors that influence coffee quality are harvest, sanitation, productionprocesses, place and equipment. Statistical quality control is method to control production process stability, where PT. J.A. Wattie did not apply in coffee productionprocess. The objectives of this research are identify quality output at each stage of processes; observe the correlation of production process and coffee quality based on statistical quality control.Grading and hulling processes according to control chart showed that the process was under control because data plot to be present in interval upper and lower control limit. Pulping and washing processes were out of control because some data plot to be present in outside of upper control limit or lower control limit.Washing process showed other pattern because more than four (4) data make increasing or decreasing pattern. Increasing or decreasing patterns can be indicator of abnormality processes. Abnormality of washing and pulping processes were resulted from the pulper and washer. The rare maintance of pulper and washer can be factor that makes abnormality process.Keywords: coffee, robusta, quality, statistical quality control

Abstract

The food requirement in Indonesia is highly dependent on rice and its requirement is increasing. On the other hand, the avalability of natural resource especially land and water are getting more limited. Consequently,there is a need to increase rice production with efficient resources. On the other hand, there is a necessity to apply sustainable agriculture. SRI (System of Rice Intensification) method was developed to deal with the problems. In the field, the SRI method still shows a wide variation of yields, therefore researches are necessary to reveal the phenomena behind this method. This paper aims to develop mathematical models of rice tillers and plant height of rice growth as well as to compare the growth of rice plants at several locations and treatments. Mathematical models developed were the rice tillers’ growth model which follow the exponential polynomial function order 2 and the crop heights model which follow the monomolekuler function. The number of seedlings from one seed planted in SRI would result more tillers than conventional crops after more than 30 days after planting. Conventional crop height was relatively higher than that of SRI because close spacing and inorganic fertilizers trigger vegetative growth.Keywords: mathematical model, SRI, crop physiology, rice

Abstract

Plants can grow and reach maximum production on optimum soil condition. Plants growth and agricultural machines application in farm fields were influenced by physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of soil. Granule organic fertilizer (GOF) application with a certain dosage could influence physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of soil. The objective of the research was to analyse interaction relationship between physical and mechanical soil properties alterations on GOF dosages variation. Soil consistency test, compaction test (Proctor’s test), and direct shear test were applied to soil samples on GOF dosages variation. Research results showed that the increasing of GOF dosages from 0 ton/ha up to 90 tons/ha would increase soil posity of (49.43-55.85)%, soil moisture content of (24.14-49.97)%, plastic limit of (35.96-41.82)%, and liquid limit of (56.01-61.75)%, but it would decrease maximum soil dry bulk density of (1.34-1.17) g/cc. Soil shear strength decreased from (0.91-1.41) kgf/cm2 down to (0.42-0.58) kgf/cm2 by the decreasing of soil dry bulk density of (1.14-1.09) g/cc and soil cohesion of (0.68-0.34) kgf/cm2 which resulted by the increasing of the GOF dosages.Keywords: soil shear strength, granule organic fertilizer, soil density, and soil cohesion

Abstract

Java long pepper (Piper retrofractum Vahl) is one of the Indonesian original plants having aphrodisiac activity. This study was aimed to isolate piperine and to evaluate aphrodisiac potency of piperine and piperine-free insoluble n-hexane fraction from ethanolic extract of P. retrofractum. Twenty five male rats were randomized into 5 groups. Oral repeated administration once a day for 27 days were given to andriol group (0.72 mg/day), CMC-Na 1%, piperine (1.6 mg/kg body weight), piperine-free insoluble n-hexane fraction (2.1 mg/kg body weight), insoluble n-hexane fraction (31.72 mg/kg body weight). Rat’s sexual behavior including sexual introduction and climbing were observed in day 0, 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, and 27. Normal and homogenous data were analyzed statistically with one-way ANOVA, followed by LSD test. The result showed that the administration of andriol, piperine, piperine-free insoluble n-hexane fraction, and total insoluble n-hexane fraction has a significant increase in the frequency of introduction, compared to the group of CMC-Na 1% (p<0.05). There was also a significant increase of piperine and piperine-free insoluble n-hexane fraction in the frequency of climbing (p<0.05).Keywords: Piper retrofractum Vahl, sexual behavior, piperine, aphrodisiac

Abstract

Number of constraints in drying of mangosteen peel came as problem in handling of the product. The hybrid drying system was chosen as an alternative to dry the mangosteen peel. The treatments performed in this research were: the rack dryer hybrid where sunlight, electric, and combination of sunlight and electric source, and as a comparison were used the para-para dryer. Combination of sunlight and electric source has the highest temperature that was 48.5 C deg. using electric source was 38.1 C deg., whereas using sunlight source was 39.6 C deg. and using para-para dryer was 33.6 C deg. Drying with combination of sunlight and electric source was the most rapid in moisture evaporation. While as a comparison was used the para-para dryer, that was the slowest one. Drying efficiency using sunlight source was 29.6%, while the drying efficiency using electric source was 51.5%, and the combination of sunlight and electric source was 28.7%. It was concluded that the hybrid dryer could be used as an alternative to dry mangosteen peel.Keywords: mangosteen peel, drying energy source, drying efficiency
