Abstract

This research aims to describe the evidence of the failure of Islamic political parties to encourage their best cadres to become national leaders (president and vice president) in direct presidential election contests from 2004-2019. Over the course of the past four election cycles, candidates affiliated with Islamic political parties have been notably absent, instead opting to form coalitions in support of candidates from other political factions.  A political anomaly, where the majority of the population adheres to the Islamic faith, yet candidates from Islamic political parties are conspicuously absent. The research was conducted using the literature study method and analyzed using John Dewey's pragmatism theory approach which was strengthened by Hanna Pitkin's representation theory. Data findings are corroborated by factor analysis of the failure of Islamic political parties using NVIVO 12Plus. Data were obtain from credible offline and online sources. The main findings of this research show four key pieces of evidence. Firstly, an overview of the electoral support landscape for Islamic political parties in direct presidential elections over the four periods highlights their dominance only in the 2004 elections, followed by subsequent declines. Second, the map of the coalition of Islamic political parties in every direct election underscores their diminished influence and inability to construct an Islamic polar coalition. Third, mapping the votes of support for Islamic political parties in every election which results in stagnation of support for Islamic political parties with no more than 32%. Lastly, the study identifies the contributing factors to the failure of Islamic political parties.  Islamic political parties need to formulate a comprehensive cadre system to produce cadres who are competent and have high electability to win the presidential election.

Abstract

The Russian invasion significantly impacted the multilateral system and global geopolitics order. This research examines the impact of an invasion on the international system ruled by the United Nations and the Security Council in resolving conflicts. This study uses a qualitative technique by utilizing primary and secondary data regarding the analysis of invasion's alignment with principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also highlighting the limitations of the current multilateral system. The invasion could have a negative impact on the multilateral system and create dilemma for resolving conflicts. This has led to serious problems for the whole multilateral system and has made it harder to solve future conflicts through international teamwork. This study proposes an analysis to maintain the multilateral system and reform the Security Council by limiting veto power for better conflict prevention and resolution. The UN Security Council's decision-making and crisis response could be improved by managing the interests of permanent members' veto powers. By investigating the challenges and action solutions to reduce disputes, this study emphasizes the importance of UN members' collective efforts and commitment to maintaining global peace as a national interest and maintaining security in the modern world.

Abstract

This research addresses the prevalent community rumors regarding the Tablighi Jama'ah's aversion to political discourse. The veracity of this claim is confirmed through an examination of the Jama'ah's foundational teachings, notably the "20 Principles of Da'wah," where it explicitly proscribes discussions on both domestic and foreign politics. The inquiry into how a community dedicated to molding Muslim individuals and societies can effect change while restricting political dialogue serves as the central query. Employing a descriptive analytical method with a qualitative approach, the study employs three distinct data collection techniques—Observation, Interview, and Literature Study. Qualitative data analysis unfolds through successive stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion/verification. From field findings and subsequent discussions, two key conclusions emerge: Firstly, the Tabligh Jama'ah successfully molds Muslim individuals and communities in Temboro Village, Karas District, Magetan Regency, by adhering to core teachings under the guidance of experienced masyayikh. Secondly, the Jama'ah is renowned as non-political; a label that doesn't signify complete disengagement from politics, but rather refraining from overt political discussions. The focus instead lies in eschewing practical politics. In essence, the Tabligh Jama'ah represents a practical non-political entity. As a recommendation, this study underscores the necessity for further research into the Muslim community of Temboro Village, employing a multidisciplinary approach. Given its empirical significance, the community's dynamics have the potential to serve as a contemporary model for Indonesian Muslim society.

Abstract

Identity politics is interpreted as people's subconscious formation systems due to myriad social problems and dissatisfaction. Religion's politicization as a form of identity politics impacts the sustainability of democracy in Indonesia. This study uses a hybrid of primary and secondary data collection techniques. The primary data encompasses information from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, intellectuals, scholars, academicians, mass organizations and NGO leaders, competent people in political corruption and elections, and researchers through direct, in-depth, and intensive interviews and testimonies. At least two important things are increasingly sticking out in the view above (populism and identity politics), which are intertwined to create actual political dynamics in the mayoral election in Serang City. In the political arena, populism is characterized by efforts to place the public as the mainstream and focal point. The problem is that populism is often held hostage as a means of reaching the center of power. Public participation in the discussion of public interest only appears in the short period leading up to the political competition. The victory can be seen among the candidates for mayor of Serang; there seems to be no significant difference between them because no ethnicity or race holds privilege. The dominant religion in this identity politics is the Muslim community, which the candidates are targeting because the people of Serang City are predominantly Muslim. Most of the elected mayor's votes prove that he has more value than other candidates. The relationship between religion and politics becomes problematic when it comes to the particularities of local politics, for example, the emergence of identity issues such as religious sentiment, ethnicity, son of the region, and majority. -minority.  The issues of religion and ethnicity are considered applicable in regional head elections (Pilkada). The issue of religion and ethnicity (SARA) is considered the cheapest issue in the election context, manipulating the public's low education level.

Abstract

The polemic regarding the Presidential Threshold policy has caused conflict in society and hampered Indonesia's political development. This study aims to prove the impact of the Presidential Threshold policy on the political identity of two groups of people who are often referred to as "cebong" and "kampret". The impact of this policy has led to polarization of netizens and heated and uncontrolled communication patterns on social media. This study uses the netnographic method with a critical discourse approach to determine the impact of the policy. The results showed that the Presidential Threshold policy had an impact on the inconsistency of political parties, there were only 2 pairs of candidates in the presidential election, injured small parties because of oligarchic efforts, many negative comments were hostile on social media and researchers found Presidential Threshold policies gave birth to a Political Identity "cebong- kampret, which can cause the Indonesian nation to experience segregation which creates conflict in society and of course triggers national disgrace on social media. With the existence of a Presidential Threshold policy, the government must consider the presentation of 20%, this can reduce the polarization that exists in society.
