Abstract

---------------------------This paper is a reflection of the local defense of the religion that had been marginalized by looking further into the state of the local religious marginalization. In its development, the country never abandoned the religion of his intervention. In fact, very close to the state religion. How and through what medium the conquest of the local religion? This question is the focus of this paper by outlining the three sub-themes. First, it is form or variety of ideas in local religious position. Second, the actors involved in local religious positioning. Third, local response, including the existence of local religious elite, associated with differences in religion and culture of the surrounding community. This paper shows that the state has put religion at the ‘manageble’ position. In fact, the position of religion as an important entity is frequently controlled. Similarly, in this paper, it can be found how local communities respond to the presence of local religious so local religion not only placed in the controlled set, but also constantly challenged by the surrounding environment.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the legal position of Towani Tolotang in the case of restrictions on religion in Indonesia. This paper is based on research toward the Towani Tolotang community in the Sidenreng Rappang Regency. Towani Tolotang is a local religion that continues to survive despite attempts to disband its followers, efforts which come not only from groups which disagree with the religion’s existence, but is also from the state. The discrimination experienced by followers of Towani Tolotang comes from two directions: first, from the public in the form of assumptions which denounce them, and second, from the government through a variety of regulations which limit the space for followers of Towani Tolotang to develop its teachings.

Abstract

This article explores the form of compromise between Islam and local tradition (adat) in the religious practices of Muslims in Bugis community in South Sulawesi. Islam is an integral part of Bugis lives and is positioned as the main reference so that it encourages Bugis community members to become more fanatic than others. However, in some cases, it is not uncommon for religious practices that have traditional nuances. In fact, the local tradition is in a position that exceeds the role of religion as reflected in the celebration of Islamic holidays. This condition allows the attraction between religion and local tradition to occur in the practice of everyday life of the Bugis community. The question is at what level do conflicts and compromises occur between local tradition and religion among the Bugis community? To answer this question, an investigation was carried out using qualitative methods that put forward and applying the techniques of participant observation and literature study. The results show that points of compromise were discovered where religion and local tradition complemented each other. The tendency to compromise Islam and local tradition is motivated by not only the low understanding of religion itself but also the desire to maintain the ancestral local traditions that have been practiced for a long time in their community. The compromise of Islam and local tradition in religious practices have resulted in the escape of their respective positions, and it makes the role of religion tends to weaken.

Abstract

This paper discusses the issue of the tendency to vote of millennial Muslim voters in presidential-vice presidential elections 2019. This issue is answered through three questions. Applying mix-methods of quantitative and qualitative, the data was obtained through surveys and interviews as well as literature studies. The results were analyzed using a descriptive-analytical analysis. These results of this research show three important things. First, millennial Muslim voters in the presidential-vice presidential election 2019 tend to choose civilians as potential leaders. Civilians are considered capable of overcoming problems and can advance Indonesia in the future. Second, there are variations in the reasons for voters voting their candidates. In addition to performance factors, firmness and competency factors are the drivers for voters to make choices regarding contending candidates. Third, differences in political choices have an impact on polarization among Muslim communities. Different choices lead to new groupings in Muslim societies and even tend to emerge hates and dislikes from each other.

Abstract

The idea of building a new capital city is a recent issue that has been widely discussed in Indonesia. To help observe the urgency of these ideas, research results are needed by analyzing several published documents available globally. This helps study the evolution of the discourse of moving the new capital city through research results. This study aims to fill the gap in previous research on moving the State Capital with a bibliometric analysis approach. The bibliometric analysis research method maximizes the analytical tool, namely Vosviewer. This approach explores relocating the National Capital by reviewing publications and research globally, especially in the socio-political field indexed in the Scopus database. This study found 176 most relevant publication documents and was considered influential on other published documents. In line with the discourse on relocating the Indonesian capital, this study finds that the tendency of Indonesian researchers to distribute publication documents is very minimal globally, but the results of this study view that the study of the relocation of the National Capital has the potential to be extensively researched in the future, especially in the socio-political field. Some topics are relevant to be studied, including urbanization, regional development, economic development, political geography, government relocation, modernization, identity construction, state-building, climate change, and others. The contribution of this research becomes a reference for further researchers in determining the position of contributions to the development of more relevant research in the future.
