Abstract

Churches needs to consider how to do mission in the era of global capitalism. The negative impact of the current global capitalism epoch is created by economic and political gaps. Massive destruction of nature is also an impact of global capitalism. The topic will be elaborated through a literature research. The church faces a dif-ferent type of global reality in each age; however, it can learn from Jesus ministry. Jesus’ ministry showed concern for the poor, the marginalized and the helpless. Jesus is not someone who does not care about economic and political issues. The ministry carried out also has relevance to the individual and structural life. There is no structural change without individual changes (and vice versa). The church also needs to build a collective network to strive for a better life. Keywords: mission; global capitalism; ministry; Jesus.

Abstract

The witness of faith is an important element in interreligious dialogue to nourish the existence of theology in intercultural contexts. But dialogue tends to be understood as merely sharing truth information and doctrines in various religions. Such model dialogue is actually not relevant in religious plurality. On the other hand, there are challenges to creating dialogue, including: arrogance, closed attitudes, and claims of truth absolutism. Such a situation does not foster theology in an intercultural context. Humility is the key to dialogue, and the witness of faith plays an important role in nourishing theology in intercultural contexts. In interreligious dialogue, the important witness of faith today is living and practicing the authentic teachings of every religion, such as living in peace, harmony of fraternity, building wisdom of love, and creating justice. This paper will explore the significance of faith witness-ing in interreligious dialogue and intercultural theology with literature research methods to offer implementative recommendations. Keywords: faith witness; dialogue; interreligious; intercultural; theology

Abstract

Interreligious conflicts often occur in Indonesia, a country with various beliefs and religions. In this article, I approach these conflicts using the thoughts of Nicholas Cusanus, a medieval Catholic thinker who also faced interreligious conflict of his time, the Fall of Constantinople to Ottoman Turks. I analyze Cusanus‘ thought about religions in his works, De Pace Fidei and Cribratio Alkorani, which prove that Cusanus position on other religions is in the midst of exclusivism and pluralism. Afterwards, I will suggest reflection and application based on: 1. Interpretation of the work of Cusanus De Pace Fidei and Cribratio Alkorani, 2. Contextualizing the interpretation with interreligious conflict in Indonesia, appreciatively and critically. There are three points of reflection and application in this article: 1. A non-violent approach to other religions, 2. Sensitivity to political interests in interreligious conflict, 3. Initiates friendly and open dialogue between religions, and 4. Increase active tolerance that breaks down the dividing walls. Keywords: Nicholas Cusanus; pluralism; exclusivism; inclusivism; interreligious conflict.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic in the blink of an eye has radically changed the world as we know it. In a depressive atmosphere like this themes of doomsday or end of time naturally  surfaces.  This  paper  discusses  the  eschatological  options  of  Christian  beliefs and how they can contribute to the wider community. The eschatological discourse would be limited to three options with respect to the realization of God’s rule on earth, namely: premillennialism, postmillennialism and amillennialism in relation to the crisis of the times, the basic longings of humanity, and the reality of power. This paper tries to show how amillennialist eschatology can help Christians realize their social responsibility on the one hand, and on the other hand realize their limitations and mortality, while not losing hope in difficult conditions such as in pandemic times. This research employs hermeneutics and dogmatic studies to reach its aim. Keywords: Covid-19; doomsday; parousia; apocalypse; eschatology

Abstract

Protestant political theology believes the government is God’s vice in this world therefore has a legitimation to manage all aspect of human life. This conviction affected Protestants to unquestioningly obeyed the goverment. On the other hand the doctrine of the fall in Reformed tradition, believes that all aspect of creation has fall short of glory, consequently, the government as a part of creation could also fell into corruption. For this reason, a long-standing of Calvinist tradition has a lot of theological resourcement to be critical-constructive to authority. This paper tries to dig John Calvin’s theological treatises from his early writing and seminal works through historical theology method, to find Calvin’s basic idea about the critical nature of church-goverment relationship. The excavation from Calvin’s early writing in this paper prospecfully would give critical and analytical tools to undertand ethical relation between church and government in Indonesia context. Keywords:political theology; calvinism; historical theology; critical attitude; government.
