Abstract

ABSTRACT: Fraternal correction is an endeavor that will never end in life. In the diversity of the society, fraternal correction needs to be a pillar to achieve lifes goal of living together as expected through the idea of Augustine. With the reality of plurality, fraternal correction is expected to be one of the strongest foundations in spite of challenges such as differences in interpretation, communication and corrective aversion. It is difficult but necessary to be actualized because it is useful in building togetherness and bringing repentance. Fraternal correction is an admonition given to our neighbor to help them along the path to holiness. It is a means of spiritual progress to help us to know our defects, since these may often be hidden from us by our limitations, disguised by our self-love. It is a necessary precondition to enable us to tackle those defects with Gods help, and so improve our living. KEYWORDS: fraternal correction,

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Consuming goods for the necessities of life is a natural thing. However, consuming that exceeds the limit until wasting should be avoided. The dilemma of human needs today presents a new phenomenon in terms of fulfilling the necessities of life. This phenomenon is none other than-widely known by society- consumerism. The process is to use goods of production in excess or inappropriate manner consciously and sustainably. So, this phenomenon (consumerism) continues to be one of the central themes in this era of globalization. Unfortunately, the ferocity of this ideological influence ostracizes the fundamental values that exist within each individual. Consumerism eliminates the significance of the basic essence that exists in man. Humans who should remember the nature of themselves as social beings who are always connected to one another in this cosmos are now slowly losing that meaning. With the mindset and lifestyle of consumptive, human as if imprisoned and alienated. Quality of life is no longer measured based on the value of meaningfulness for others and the environment but measured by materials. This consequence becomes a fundamental crisis which is humans essence degradation. Abstract

ABSTRACT: "Am I my brother's guard?" This question becomes a reflection of individuals as social being who meet with other people every day in their differences. This question inspires the conscience of each person to take the right attitude when dealing with others. And the attitude referred to here is responsibility in the concept of levinas, which is different from everyday understanding. This thought was then tried to collide with diversity in Indonesia, especially the attitude of religious people when dealing with adherents of other religions. so that the moment of meeting with others truly becomes an ethical moment towards meeting, based on this attitude of responsibility. Based on library data, the author tries to describe the concept of levinas responsibility so that ultimately every difference can be seen as a gift and shared wealth. Through reflection on the unique concept of the responsibility of levinas, the authors put it as a foundation for the relations of religious life and Indonesian society, which often experience clashes due to pluralistic reasons. It is very appropriate, if Levinas's responsibilities are implied into the lives of our people because also the essence of Levinas's thinking actually has a strong foundation in our country's philosophy. KEYWORDS:  responsibility, plurality, religion, others, le visage, meeting
