Abstract

Abstract

Food security and sovereignty can be realized through the expansion of agricultural land to the marginal lands. One type of marginal land is acidie soils with high levels of aluminum (Al) toxicity. An efficient and environmentally friendly approach to utilizeng acidie soils as agricultural land is by using rice varieties which have a high tolerance to aluminum stress on acidie soils. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of aluminum stress on the growth of the local rice from East Kalimantan and to select the tolerant cultivars against aluminum stress at the germination stage. The study was conducted for three months (May-July 2018), at Laboratory of Biotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Mulawarman, Samarinda.  This study used a Split Plot Design with three replications. As the main plot was Aluminum stress concentration (A) consisting of 3 levels, namely 0, 250 and 500 ppm of AlCl3 and as subplots were 25 rice genotypes, consisting of 23 local rice cultivars from East Kalimantan (V) and two genotypes as tolerant (Mekongga) and sensitive (IR64) controls. Assessment of aluminum tolerance level was carried out by calculating plant sensitivity index values against aluminum stress based on the Relative Root Growth (RRG) and Relative Shoot Growth (SRG) parameters. Other plant growth parameter data, root and shoot fresh and dry weight, were analyzed using analysis of variance at the test level α = 0.05, and the post-hoch test using Honestly Significant Difference test (HSD). Aluminum stress caused disruption of the East Kalimantan local rice cultivars growth, especially root growth. Aluminum concentration at either 250 ppm or 500 ppm reduced relative root growth and further damage the root system of the rice plants causing roots stunted and thickened. Likewise with shoot growth parameter, there was a relative shoot growth decline due to the aluminum stress on the plants. Two local rice cultivars of East Kalimantan, Pulut Mayang and Pulut Linjuang, were consistently tolerant to aluminum stress either in 250 ppm or 500 ppm of AlCl3; while Kawit, Bentian, Mayas Putih and Ketan putih cultivars were only classified as tolerant at a concentration of 250 ppm aluminum. On the other hand, a control sensitive variety IR64 showed the susceptibility to 250 and 500 ppm aluminum stress.

Abstract

The aims of this experiment was to determine the effect of the application of Agrib Compost liquid organic fertilizer to the growth of bud grafting seedling of Lai (Durio kutejensis HASSK. BECC) var. Mahakam. The experiment used a Randominzed Block Design (RCBD) with Agrib Compost liquid organic fertilizer treatment (P) 8 level and  3 tests made up of  p0 = without treatment (control), p1 = (2 ml L-1 water), p2 = (4 ml L-1 water), p3 = (6 ml L-1 water), p4 = (8 ml L-1 water), p5 = (10 ml L-1 water), p6 = (12 ml L-1 water), p7 = (14 ml L-1 water). The result of the experiment indicated that the treatment of Agrib Compost liquid organic fertilizer, it had a very significant effect to the age of broken buds but had no significant effect to the length of bud  parameters, the number of leaves  and the diameter of the stem. The treatment of Agrib Compost liquid organic fertilizer 14 ml L-1 water, providing better growth in  age parameters  of broken buds, bud length, and the number of leaves.

Abstract

The objective was to examine the phenomenon of physical and chemical properties of soil which is used as a center of agricultural cultivation in supporting food security in West Sumatra. The experiment was conducted by survey to various locations by taking composite soil samples in the field. Some types of soil taken include Histosol from Anai Padang Pariaman; Ultsiol from Lubuk Minturun; Inceptisol from Limau Manis and Siteba city of Padang; Andisol from Danau Kembar and Lembah gumanti Kab. Solok.  The result was can be concluded that Ultisol Lubuk Minturun more potency for  tropical fruits. Andisol in Lembah Gumanti and Danau Kembar Kab. Solok has decreased its chemical quality. It is necessary to increase soil pH to be suitable for the development of vegetable crops and food crops. The use of lime and organic matter in a proper fertilizing package can reduce the use of heavy fertilizer for vegetable crops and horticultura. Histosol utilization for wetland rice cultivation needs to be careful because the acidic pH and the number of organic acids are toxic. Inceptisol Limau Manis Padang has a neutral pH, and is very good for developing food cultivation in support of food security in West Sumatra.

Abstract

Banana plants are plants that from the roots to the leaves can be used for human purposes. But the quantity and quality of production is still low, to increase production, it needs special treatment with fertilization. In addition to being a banana producer, Balangan Regency also has the potential for guano fertilizer. The purpose of this study was (i) to find out the growth and yield of muli bananas by guano organic fertilizer (ii) to get the best dose of guano organic fertilizer for optimal growth and yield of muli banana. This research was conducted in Kambiyain Village, Tebing Tinggi District, Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan Province, from March 2018 - May 2019. This experiment used a single randomized block design (RBD), the factor studied was the administration of various doses of guano fertilizer (G) consisting of 4 levels , namely: g1 = 10 tons. ha-1 is equivalent to 3.3 kg. 1, g2 = 15 tons. ha-1 is equivalent to 4.95 kg. 1, g3 = 20 tons. ha-1 is equivalent to 6 , 6 kg. -1, g4 = 25 tons. ha-1 is equivalent to 8.25 kg. -1. Each experimental treatment consisted of 4 combinations and repeated 6 times, so that 24 experimental units were obtained. Where each experimental unit consists of 2 plants so that the whole plant has 48 plants. The results showed the growth of plant height aged 2, 3 and 4 month after planting (MAP); number of leaves aged 4 MAP; stem diameters 2, 3 and 4 showed a response to the growth of muli banana plants against various doses of guano fertilizer on podsolic fields. In generative growth only affects many fruits per comb, while at flowering time, harvest age, bunch length and many combs do not respond to the administration of various doses of guano fertilizer on podsolic fields. The best dose of guano fertilizer was g4 (25 ton.ha-1) for the growth of mauli banana plants on podsolic fields.
