Abstract

X–Z inverted pendulum is a new kind of inverted pendulum and it can move with the combination of the vertical and horizontal forces. This paper addresses  the control problem of X-Z inverted pendulum in the presents of system uncertainties and external disturbances, and an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control approach is proposed. The fuzzy  system is used to approximate the system uncertainties and the complicated intermediate control functions in the backstepping control design. To update the parameters of the fuzzy system, a proper proportional-integral adaptation law is introduced.  Finally, simulation studies are done to show the stabilization of the X-Z inverted pendulum under the proposed method. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.2985

Abstract

Unlike previous studies on political risk and Outward Foreign Direct Investment (ODI) that used macro-level ODI data to make analysis, this paper uses of firm-level data to study the relationship between political risk and ODI from institutional distance perspective. This paper builds a relative political risk evaluation system between home country (China and US) and host country (Russia) by Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP). We find that relative political risk strengthens China's ability of investing in Russia, and weakens US's. This paper argues that firms that desire investing in high political risk countries should cultivate their relative political risk advantages for their overseas investments. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3813

Abstract

The formation of potentially harmful trihalomethanes (THM) when using chlorine as a sanitizer in water supplies has led to a need for better control algorithm. Sanitizer dosing is a system with large time delay, non-linear, time-varying and multi models, also couple is introduced to the system because of multi tunnels multi pools structure (MTMP). Improved time-delay DOB based on SVM inverse system is proposed in this paper. Support Vector Machine (SVM) is used to identify the inverse system due to that the mathematical model will not be known precisely, then this inverse system cascades the original system so that time-delay pseudo-linearization system can be obtained. Meanwhile improved time-delay DOB is designed to overcome model mismatch, disturbance and time delay. Application results in waterworks at Suzhou (China) show that the method is able to resist the disturbance and improve the robustness; also the lower unit consumption (more than 9%) of sanitizer is obtained. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3670

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to identify communities in complex networks based on the node belonging degree. First, we give the concept of the node belonging degree, and then determine whether a node belongs to a community or not according to the belonging degree of the node with respect to the community. The experiment results of three real-world networks: a network with three communities with 19 nodes, Zachary Karate Club and network of American college football teams show that the proposed algorithm has satisfactory community structure detection. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3694

Abstract

Most researches on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are focused on how to save the energy of the sensor nodes. However, in some applications of WSNs, such as in the monitoring of an earthquake or a forest fire, it is much more important to transmit emergency data packets to the sink node as soon as possible than to save power. This paper proposes a novel Adaptive Congestion Avoidance Protocol (ACAP) model to provide a feasible WSNs architecture that will save the energy of the sensor nodes in the normal situation, but will transmit emergency data packets in an efficient manner to the sink node. The simulation analysis shows that the ACAP provides superior performance during both normal and emergency conditions. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3710

Abstract

The gas-solid-liquid three-phase flow is a very complicated flow pattern in pipeline transportation. By using electrical capacitance tomography (ETC) it can acquire the permittivity distribution of the multi-phase. The sensitivity distribution in ETC may affect the analysis of the permittivity distribution of the multi-phase. However, very limited work has been done in this issue. In order to investigate the sensitivity distribution in ETC, this paper employs the finite element method (FEM) to establish the principle and components of ECT. The FEM model of the sensitivity distribution as a function of the inter-electrode capacitance was discussed. Simulation tests were carried out to calculate the charge on the electrode pairs to access the potential distribution of the ETC. The analysis results show that the dielectric have great influence on the capacitance value and small distance between the electrode pair and the sensitivity field will produce high sensitivity value. Hence, the findings of this work can provide reference for the design of ECT in practice. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3611

Abstract

Nonlinear system identification is a main topic of modern identification. A new method for nonlinear system identification is presented by using Quantum Genetic Algorithm(QGA). The problems of nonlinear system identification are cast as function optimization overprameter space, and the Quantum Genetic Algorithm is adopted to solve the optimization problem. Simulation experiments show that: compared with the genetic algorithm, quantum genetic algorithm is an effective swarm intelligence algorithm, its salient features of the algorithm parameters, small population size, and the use of Quantum gate update populations, greatly improving the recognition in the optimization of speed and accuracy. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed method. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3008

Abstract

In recent years, the volume of traffic is rapidly increasing. When vehicles running through the tunnel are more intensive or move slowly, the tunnel environment occurs deteriorated sharply, which affects the normal operation of the vehicle in the tunnel. This paper uses the result of previous mining association rules to select feature items and to establish four training samples divided by time. Then the training samples are utilized to create the SVM classification model. Finally the trained SVM model is used to prediction the tunnel traffic situation. Through traffic situation prediction, effective decisions can be made before traffic jams, and ensure that the tunnel traffic is normal. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3656

Abstract

In order to well understand and control the information dissemination in the complex network, Increasing Trust SI model and SIP model have been built to represent the peoples' interaction during information dissemination. By introducing and computing the trust degree of the net nodes, the process of information dissemination can be truly represented following increasing trust rule. Simulation experiments reveal that the informations can be quickly broken out in ER model, NW model and BA model due to the small world characteristic of complex networks. To prevent bad information disseminating, SIP model with "Persuasion" mechanism is presented.  It can be effect when immune nodes with "P" status persuade their neighber disseminator with the truth.  Simulation experiments show that not all nodes in the network will be disseminated and all will lose the trust on the bad information. Exceptionally, the best effection is in BA network with free-scale. The results of this paper can be used for analysis and management of information dissemination on complex networks.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3662
