Abstract

In this review paper, we address on the state-of-art process with visual object tracking in video surveillance, medical and military applications. In the present scenario number of algorithms and methods are used to track the object in the different scene, a robust visual object tracking remains a critical challenge. The challenges arise due to object motion from frame to frame with a change in appearance, structures, illumination, and occlusion. In this paper, at last, we outline the different algorithms, dataset, strength, and weakness of the different object tracker.

Abstract

Cases of misdiagnosis and variability evaluation among the dentists do happen. The complexity of anatomical structures and the low contrast of the original images are factors that contribute to the problems. Image enhancement is often used to enhance medical images. However, currently limited work has been done in enhancing the dental pathological features. Dentists come from different background in terms of experience, place of study, method of practices and emotional quotient. These are some of the factors that may cause differences in subjective evaluation among dentists. Therefore, this research focused on identifying objective measurements based on dentists’ subjective evaluation on abnormalities’ detection in jaw area. Objective measurement is based on contrast improvement index (CII) and subjective evaluation is derived from dentists’ questionnaire answering. This paper contributes to new knowledge in the initial phase of identifying dental disease characteristics by means of correlation between the subjective and objective evaluation.

Abstract

The voltage control in the power distribution network is challenged firstly by constantly increasing in power demand and secondly by a growing number of distributed connections, which significantly changes the load flow in the network. Situation is worsening with the current heavily implemented micro-generation of Solar PV. Consequently, the uncontrollable rapid changes in the power distribution network would affect voltage instability at the feeder with wide area power demand. Voltage instability would affect the energy efficiency of the electrical equipment. Moreover, the lifespan of some equipment would be shortened due to the excessive and unstable voltage supplied. The proposed research aims to implement the low impedance voltage optimization system in solving the existing problem. The voltage optimization system had been tested on both resistive and inductive loads. The power consumption of the loads had been measured at a few discrete values of voltage optimization within the statutory region. Further tests were conducted on industrial water pump, general lightings with mixed loads, office building, restaurant and plastic injection moulding machine. The power measurements were logged and the results in term of power consumption were analysed. The results showed that the proposed optimization mechanism successfully optimize and saved 6.81%, 14.42%, 13.97%, 12.23%, and 26.23% of the power consumptions in respective tests.

Abstract

Intrinsic zinc oxide (ZnO)/Al-doped ZnO (AZO) homojunction film was prepared using two-step immersion processes. The film was characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometer to investigate their structural and optical properties. The surface morphology image displays that the ZnO deposited on the nanorod surfaces in layer form with average diameter of nanorods about 95 nm. The structural properties of XRD pattern demonstrate that the film possessed good crystallinity with the preferred orientation at (002) plane. The film also possessed excellent absorption in the ultraviolet (UV) region with optical band gap energy of 3.22 eV. These results indicate that the film has a good potential for optical-based device such a UV sensor.

Abstract

Sambat Online is one of the implementation of E-Government for complaints management provided by Malang City Government.  All of the complaints will be classified into its intended department. In this study, automatic complaint classification system using Neighbor Weighted K-Nearest Neighbor (NW-KNN) is poposed because Sambat Online has imbalanced data. The system developed consists of three main stages including preprocessing, N-Gram feature extraction, and classification using NW-KNN. Based on the experiment results, it can be concluded that the NW-KNN algorithm is able to classify the imbalanced data well with the most optimal k-neighbor value is 3 and unigram as the best features by 77.85% precision, 74.18% recall, and 75.25% f-measure value. Compared to the conventional KNN, NW-KNN algorithm also proved to be better for imbalanced data problems with very slightly differences.

Abstract

Genetic algorithm (GA) approach is one of an evolutionary optimization technique relies on natural selection. The employment of GA still popular and it was applied to many real-world problems, especially in many combinatorial optimization solutions. Lecturer Timetabling Problem (LTP) has been researched for a few decades and produced good solutions. Although, some of LTP offers good results, the criteria and constraints of each LTP however are different from other universities. The LTP appears to be a tiresome job to the scheduler that involves scheduling of students, classes, lecturers and rooms at specific time-slots while satisfying all the necessary requirements to build a feasible timetable. This paper addresses the employment and evaluation of GA to overcome the biggest challenge in LTP to find clashes-free slots for lecturer based on a case study in the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, University Technologi MARA, Malaysia. Hence, the performance of the GA is evaluated based on selection, mutation and crossover using different number of population size. A comparison of performance between simple GA with Tournament Selection scheme combined with Elitism (TE) and a GA with Tournament (T) selection scheme. The findings demonstrate that the embedded penalty measures and elitism composition provide good performance that satisfies all the constraints in producing timetables to lecturers.

Abstract

This paper presents the establishment of Standard Reference Environment (SRE) for photovoltaic (PV) Nominal Operating Cell Temperature (NOCT) testing in Malaysia representing one of the countries that lies in tropical region. From a field testing conducted, 12-months data of six parameters namely solar irradiance (SI), ambient temperature (AT), relative humidity (RH), wind speed (WS), wind direction (WD), module temperature (MT) and open circuit voltage were analysed to determine the median SI and the median AT.  From the analysis, the median SI and the median AT are 228 W/m2 and 30 °C respectively.  However, these results show that the current approach in determining SRE using median ambient parameters is not suitable for tropical Malaysia based on the percentage error of approximately   30 %. Due to this, the proposed approach applied in this study is determining the corresponding AT of the same SI (800 W/m2) used in present SRE of international standard. Thus, the new proposed SI and AT for SRE in this study are 800W/m2 and 31°C respectively. The SRE found in this study is determined using dedicated approach to suit tropical climate in deriving a more accurate NOCT for tropical region.
