Abstract

Leaders and Followers algorithm was a novel metaheuristics proposed by Yasser Gonzalez-Fernandez and Stephen Chen. In solving unconstrained optimization, it performed better exploration than other well-known metaheuristics, e.g. Genetic Algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization and Differential Evolution. Therefore, it performed well in multi-modal problems. In this paper, Leaders and Followers was modified for constrained non-linear optimization. Several well-known benchmark problems for constrained optimization were used to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The result of the evaluation showed that the proposed algorithm consistently and successfully found the optimal solution of low dimensional constrained optimization problems and high dimensional optimization with high number of linear inequality constraint only. Moreover, the proposed algorithm had difficulty in solving high dimensional optimization problem with non-linear constraints and any problem which has more than one equality constraint. In the comparison with other metaheuristics, Leaders and Followers had better performance in overall benchmark problems.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in scientific literacy of students who were given inquiry learning through a real-virtual Monte Carlo experiment with students who were given conventional learning. This study used quasi experimental design with pretest-posttest control group. The results showed that the ability of students who were taught by inquiry learning models through real-virtual Monte Carlo experiments had higher scientific literacy than those taught with conventional models, it also applied well to students with high and low initial abilities. The results of the average gain in scientific literacy scores also showed a higher value between students who studied with the inquiry model through a real-virtual Monte Carlo experiment with students who studied with conventional models. The novelty of this research is combining real and virtual activities become real-virtual Monte Carlo by using the inquiry learning model to improve students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

In this paper, an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) based on Arduino microcontroller is applied to the dynamic model of 5 DoF Robot Arm presented. MATLAB is used to detect colored objects based on image processing. Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) method is a method for controlling robotic arm based on color detection of camera object and inverse kinematic model of trained data. Finally, the ANFIS algorithm is implemented in the robot arm to select objects and pick up red objects with good accuracy.

Abstract

This article describes an approach for optimal reactive power dispatch problem using a Modified Bacterial Foraging Algorithm. Modified bacterial foraging algorithm introduces a differential evolution operator in chemotaxis to overcome tumble failure in tumble step and accelerates the convergence speed of the original operator. In the new algorithm chaotic dynamics are used to generate initial population to have uniform distribution. The proposed new algorithm is applied to Optimal reactive power dispatch problem with two objective functions; minimization of real power loss and voltage stability L-index. The objective functions are minimized by optimally choosing the control variables such as generator excitations, tap positions of on-load tap changing transformers and switched var compensators. The proposed approach has been evaluated on an IEEE 30 bus standard test system. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with other evolutionary computation algorithms in the literature and the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated.

Abstract

In our experience of having worked with financial institutions for over 19 calendar years, we have seen that application development, maintenance and operations teams have a very silo-ed existence. In today's ever more fluid market, it is imperative for these teams to be very agile in their response to business needs. While development teams are trying to adopt agile and devops practices, operations and maintenance teams are sometimes forgotten in this transformation journey even though they play a very crucial role in managing customer facing systems. In this paper, we focus on application operations for their simplification, outline the post production challenges faced by the operations teams, assistance required from the development teams and need for coordination & harmony between application development and operations teams. We use the example of a financial organization where we are currently helping in simplification of application support processes using two key levers of cloud and devops adoption to highlight the path to simplification. We outline the solution levers we used, solution tenets, solution approach and considerations. We also share a target state model and regulated key functions & activities within the model as well as an interim operating model and a target operating model.

Abstract

Visible Light Communication is a communication method that transmits data through light by pulsing an LED at high speed, performing broadcast communication for all devices existing in its coverage. Broadcast-based Visible Light Communication is limited to application to Internet of Things services, where various applications exist, although all receivers can communicate within the range of light sources. Therefore, this paper proposes an LED based Visible Light Communication system for multicast. The proposed system performs individual multicast by participating in communication only with receivers configured to use a specified ID value input at the transmitting side during data transmission. Experimental results show that the receiver can receive files individually according to a specified ID value.

Abstract

According to Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2016-17, 61.9% of people quitting tobacco the reason was the warnings displayed on the product covers. The focus of this paper is to automatically display warning messages in video clips. This paper explains the development of a system to automatically detect the smoking scenes using image recognition approach in video clips and then add the warning message to the viewer.  The approach aims to detect the cigarette object using Tensorflow’s object detection API. Tensorflow is an open source software library for machine learning provided by Google which is broadly used in the field image recognition. At present, Faster R-CNN with Inception ResNet is theTensorflow’s slowest but most accurate model. Faster R-CNN with Inception Resnet v2 model is used to detect smoking scenes by training the model with cigarette as an object.

Abstract

Engine have become one of the supportive asset for many activity and work, therefore engine need attention for its condition. The easiest way to do is through the acoustic sound of the engine itself. Most of the time, the engine sounds are checked using a traditional way that may causing a debate regarding its condition. This is due to no supportive scientific basis to know about engine condition using their own acoustic sound. A value from its frequency pattern is needed as scientific basis to determine an engine condition using acoustic sound. Method of envelope extraction by hilbert transform, fast fourier transform, and correlation coefficient are used to find that value. A series of tests have been carried out on the values that have been found and the result are promising for telling engine condition, but unfortunately the values has not been able to identify type of damage that occur on the engine.

Abstract

Image restoration refers to the recovery of an underlying image from an observation that has been corrupted by various types of noise. In a digital forensic software, such image restoration process should be noise-tolerant, robust, fast, and scalable.  In this paper, we apply implicative fuzzy association memory structure in colored facial image restoration with enhanced similarity measure involved in output computarion. The efficacy if the proposed fuzzy associative memory model is verified by the experiment in that it was 95% successful (with zero mean square error) out of 20 tested images.

Abstract

The Clause slicing technique is static slicing techniques which also have forward and backward slicing methods. The Clause slice criteria are the clause and the clause number. In this paper, we have discussed the Clauser tool the forward clause slicing tool introduce some improvements to it. The Clauser mechanism divides the program code statement into clauses, depending on clause slicing rules, identifies the variables and built-in functions, then slices the clauses regarding the slice criterion that was entered by the user. Comparing to other static slicing techniques the clause slicing is more accurate and precise because it considers all the code in micro-level, where it focuses on every syntax in the code. The Clauser still needs to be enhanced to slice more code features.
