Abstract

Losses on Electric Distribution System lines represent a major challenge for electric distribution companies since those losses refer to the amount of electricity injected into the distribution grids that are not paid by users. Network Optimization by system reconfiguration is one of the solutions among many others used to solve this problem. In this paper a modified version of new Meta Heuristic algorithm based on Bat behavior is proposed to find the best system configuration with a low loss rate, we present two different approaches: reduction of search space and introduction of sigmoid function to fit the algorithm to the problem. The main advantages of the proposed methodology are: easy implementation and less computational efforts to find an optimal solution. To demonstrate its efficiency the proposed scheme is tested on 33 Bus distribution system and the results show loss reduction rate of 33%. DOI:  http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7629

Abstract

Differences of market force of coal and power industries caused this contradiction “market for coal, electricity for plans ”. C&P (Coal and power) industries issues around dual pricing system seriously hampered the development of C&P industries. This paper used the System Dynamics method to analyze the composition, characteristics and ways to build of the C&P industries integrated energy system, building feedback causal relationships of the C&P industries integrated energy system and their subsystems. Finally, this article established System Dynamics flow diagram. The analysis showed that C&P industries need rational planning, coordinating collaboration; strengthen the government's guide and regulation, continuously improve the transport capacity between enterprises. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7618

Abstract

The numerical approximation of The generalized Lienard equation is considered using delay as parameter.First, the delay difference equation obtained by using Euler method is written as a map.According to the theories of bifurcation for discrete dynamical systems, the conditions to guarantee the existence of Hopf bifurcation for numerical approximation are given. The relations of Hopf bifurcation between the continuous and the discrete are discussed. Then when The generalized Lienard equation has Hopf bifurcations at,the numerical approximation also has Hopf bifurcations at  is proved. At last, the text listed an example of numerical simulation, the result shows that system (8) discretized by Euler keeps the dynamic characteristic of former system (1), and the theory is proved. DOI:  http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7461

Abstract

In the past half-century, scaling has been used to improve semiconductor devices performance. In this paper, we study the effects of scaling on SiGe(C) heterojunction bipolar transistors (HBTs) performances i.e. cutoff frequency (fT), maximum frequency of oscillation (fmax) and gate delay (τg). The SiGe HBT scaling models are developed from more than twenty years accumulated reported data. The results show that the peak cutoff frequency shows an increasing trend with emitter width scaling with a factor of ~WE-0.719, the peak maximum frequency of oscillation shows an increasing trend with emitter width scaling with a factor of ~WE-0.723 and the gate delay shows a decreasing trend with emitter width scaling with a factor of ~WE0.778. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7469

Abstract

Single-phase single-stage PV-Grid system using a five-level inverter has been investigated. Some of integration systems used two-stage converters, while others used single-stage converter. However, two-stage converters had a very complicated problem. The first converter acted as a maximum power point tracker to maximize power generated by sunlight energy to electric power, implemented by PV. The second stage was used as an interface to the grid. In single stage-converter was very simple in which an inverter was used for a maximum power point tracker and interface to the grid. This paper is designed to develop a single-stage PV-Grid system using a single-phase voltage source five-level inverter. The voltage equilibrium on capacitor was to make PV generate maximum power; hence, the equilibrium voltage between PV and five-level inverter output was proposed to deliver that maximum power generated by PV to the grid. Here, an analysis and a simulation were performed to demonstrate the design effectiveness. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7646

Abstract

Hybrid renewable energy based on PV and wind systems complemented with battery storage system are starting to play a vital role over the world to supply power to distant regions. This paper proposes the combination of lead acid battery system with a typical hybrid PV-wind energy system for supplying the electrical load of a desalination system at Mersa Matrouh. Solar and wind are sources of energy and battery unit is considered as a storage unit to meet the load demand. Simulation model with MATLAB/Simulink for the hybrid power system has been developed considering power supply variation in solar and wind hybrid power system caused due to disturbed power supply from wind turbine generator and solar system. A control strategy using Neural Network Control (NNC) is being offered and analyzed. The final result of the simulation indicates an effective operation of battery. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7650

Abstract

The Gong is a distinctive percussion instrument because of its wave-like sounds after being struck immediately due to its traditional manufacture procedures. Spectra for the gongs vary substantially due to variation in shape and size, and to dimensional irregularities created during manufacture and whilst tuning by soft-hammering or hand-grinding. Finite Element Analysis is used to predict the effect of a range of variations of gong geometries on modal shapes and modal frequencies. The radiated sound spectra of the gong are also measured and compared with the natural frequencies obtained from Finite Element Analysis. Through the finite element model, the effect of geometric dimensions and material properties of the gong on its sound characteristics can be studied.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7402

Abstract

The main aim of this research work is to develop and design a proto type model for a pick and place robotic vehicle with a soft catching gripper that can be controlled by android OS for remote operation. At the transmitting end using android application device, commands are sent to the receiver to control the movement of the robotic vehicle. Meanwhile at the receiving end four motors are interfaced to the microcontroller where two for them are used for arm movement while the other two are for the body movement. The android application device transmitter will acts as a remote control while the receiver end Bluetooth device is fed to the microcontroller to drive DC motors via motor driver IC for necessary work. Remote operation is achieved by any smart phone with AndroidOS; upon a GUI (Graphical User Interface) based touch screen operation. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7370

Abstract

This paper presents an optimization method to the Demand Side Energy Management System (DSEMS) of a given consumer (e.g.an industrial compound or university campus) with respect to hourly electricity prices. The demands can be supplied through the main grid and stochastic Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), such as wind and solar power sources.  To solve this DSEMS problem and optimization algorithm based on Linear Programming (LP) approach has been implemented.  The objective of the proposed method is to maximize the utilization of the cluster of demands. This LP algorithm allows the cluster of demand to buy, store and sell energy at suitable times to adjust the hourly load level. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm an IEEE 14 bus system was considered. The results shows that the cluster of demands of energy management system using the proposed approach increasing the efficiency and minimizing the losses than the existing methods. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v14i1.7570
