Hormonal imbalance is often pointed out by medical experts to be the cause of menstrual irregularity, a common problem of women. This study aims to develop a device that would determine if a patient has hormonal imbalance by testing saliva’s conductivity onto the device for 28 consecutive days, thus, determining the cause of the patient’s menstrual irregularity. To test the accuracy of the device, the researchers selected three women residing in one home to use the device. To determine if a woman has hormonal imbalance, the data, when plotted in a chart, should have a sudden peak. However, data can’t be analyzed through visual assumptions only. Therefore, the data is analyzed through sample standard deviation. If one data is higher or lower than the sum and difference of the sample standard deviation and the mean, the woman is negative in hormonal imbalance. Comparing the result from the device and from the blood test, it is concluded that the results from the device matched the results from the blood test and medical expert interpretation.

Interest in the drive system which used in many applications is increasing day by day. So, many researchers have focused on the analyses, design and control of these systems. In this study, Optimal for Dc motor in drive system control strategy has been proposed for PSO-PI and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based Dc motor in drive system. In order to test dynamic performance of PSO-PI based drive System, simulation study was carried out by MATLAB/Simulink. The results obtained from the PSO-PI based drive system are not only superior in the rise time, settling time and overshoot but can prevent from voltage and has improved power quality.

In developing a music recommendation system, there are several factors that can contribute to the inefficiency in music selection. One of the problems persists during the music listening is that common music playing application lacks the ability to acquire context of the user. Another problem that common music recommendation system fails to address the is emotional impact of the recommended song. To address this gap, this paper presents a music recommendation system based on fuzzy inference engine that considers user activities and emotion as part of the recommendation parameters. The system includes building a smart music recommendation system that has user profiling capabilities to recommend correct songs based on the user’s preferences, mood and time. Findings of the this paper have shown that Heartbeats’s fuzzy inference engine has successfully achieved its aim, which is to improve users’ music listening experience by giving suitable song recommendation based on user context situation.

MOOC or Massive Online Open Course is increasingly adopted by Universiti Teknologi MARA as one of the e-learning methods. It is estimated that 900 courses will be offered by end of 2018, in line with the Malaysian Government’s push for better utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education. This creates an opportunity to introduce MOOC as a legitimate full alternative to lecture classes. However, learners in a MOOC setting are at a disadvantage when compared to conventional classroom in learner-learner and learner-instructor interaction. There is a huge temporal gap that exists by nature of how the courses are conducted. InSIDE is developed as a model that introduces synchronous interactivity and immersive component within MOOC. To facilitate interaction in this setting, InSIDE suggests a dedicated moderator to accompany the lecture. The model also utilizes a “go high and fail gracefully” approach to overcome the devices, connectivity and infrastructural challenge. In pursuant of the creation of a model that can be used in UiTM, interviews with UiTM’s MOOC facilitators and lecturers were conducted to gain insights on the behind-the-scene processes of creating and managing a course. In order to ensure that the model is feasible within existing infrastructure, a Proof of Concept was conducted with an actual lecture. InSIDE was also presented to three experts on MOOC in UITM. From the qualitative data obtained, 2 out of 3 experts agree that the InSIDE have the possibility to improve MOOC delivery, while one expert agree with reservation in regards required hardware and infrastructure required.

Events such as natural and manmade interference, line, transformer and feeder outages that occur in electric power distribution system negatively impact the continuity of power supply, thus affecting the power demand supply as well as customer’s satisfaction. In that cases, the restoration of power needs to be carried out immediately in order to guarantee the system’s reliability. The power flow path identification is considered as a difficult task especially in a huge system due to large number of switches. Kruskal’s algorithm is presented in this paper to find the minimum power flow path in a power distribution network. The comparison of performance between presented Kruskal’s algorithm and Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO) was made in solving a problem regarding network reconfiguration. The proposed load restoration approach is tested on IEEE 33-bus single feeder radial distribution system using MATLAB software. From the results, it is found that the presented Kruskal’s algorithm was able to search for the minimal power flow path that contribute to loss reduction for power restoration after the occurrence of fault.

The issues measures duration of stay the container logistic processes at ports in developing countries is often a major problem. Therefore, a knowledge process discovery, i.e., Heuristics Miner and Fuzzy Miner, can be used to discover the insight of process by creating a process model. The container import dwell time (DT) processes can be modeled based on the event log data sources are extracted from the terminal operating system (TOS). The L* life-cycle model is used to perform the process behavior analysis steps. The results of analysis and verification show that the container import DT processes have a median duration of 5.5 days and a mean duration of 6.07 days.

In this research paper, we used a variance-based statistical method to select 20 test images, according to these latter types (natural, satellite and medical) among a sample of 300 images (100 natural, 100 satellite and 100 medical). The images selection has been done using parameters of image quality, namely PSNR, MSSIM and VIF, which were applied on three compression algorithms (DWT+SPIHT, JPEG, and JPEG2000).

The introduction of this micro grids into the conventional distribution network system forces a new challenge to the system operation. The failure factor of the power system performance essentially due to the limitation of electrical power generation in which could not meet the load demand. In order to maintain the frequency stability of the system, the power sources must be matched instantaneously among all generators and constantly supply to the load demand. A deviation of system frequency from the set-point value will affect the entire stability of power system network. This paper investigates the impact of utilizing multiple micro grids in supporting and facilitating on grid’s frequency. A method called Frequency Control Reserve (FCR) is introduced, with intention to share the excessive power from all available micro grids. These power will be controlled effectively before being injected into the main grid to stabilize the power frequency. Simulation using MATLAB Simulink have been used to simulate the result and shows great potential to be integrated with distributed generation i.e. solar photovoltaic (PV) for Malaysia power system vicinity.

Artificial lighting consumed significant amount of electrical energy in commercial buildings. Therefore, intelligent control strategies are widely implemented to reduce the lighting energy consumption. This paper presents comprehensive review of the current sensing-based strategies (i.e. occupancy, daylight and mixed), sensors placement methods (i.e. occupancy and light) and factors affecting the performance of the lighting control strategies. Based on literature survey, the sensors placement methods can be categorized into three approaches: fixed, mathematical equation and optimization. The state-of-the-art of these approaches are discusses in details. It found that, the optimization-based approach capable to find the optimal sensor placement (numbers and positions) effectively. Moreover, the mixed strategy can be produced the highest energy savings up to 95% compared with other strategies. The occupancy pattern and building characteristics are the main factors to contribute higher energy savings of sensing-based strategies in commercial buildings.

Web-based collaborative learning is well accepted learning methods since it provides flexibilities not only in term of learners’ interaction but also its timeliness learning materials. Even though there are many websites offer learning materials for Muslims generally but for new converted Muslims getting authentic materials and proper guidance are complicated. Hence, a web-based problem-based collaborative learning is proposed. This method integrates an elected virtual instructor to facilitate and support the new converted Muslims’ cognitive and emotional activities, develop their confidence of resolving and dealing with problems they are facing. This paper relates and analyzes the problem-based collaborative learning in terms of the functionality and user acceptance. Based on a survey conducted, it shows that 85% of the respondents found the system very useful and easy to use while 80%found that the system met their requirements. This system hypothetically able to help, and ease new converted Muslims in exploring Islamic authentic knowledge by using problem-based technique in web-based collaborative learning.
