Abstract

Doublefed induction generator(DFIG) has shown tremendous success inwind turbines due to its flexibility and ability to regulate the active andreactive power. However, the presence of brushes and slip rings affects itsreliability, stability, and power quality. Furthermore, itdoes not providepromising outcomes in case of faults even in presence of the crowbar circuit. In contrast, thebrushless doubly fed induction generator(BDFIG) is a morereliable option for wind turbines than its mentioned counterpart due to theabsence of the brushes and slip rings. This research work as such attempts toimprove the dynamic performance of thevector control(VC)oriented powerwinding (PW) stator flux-based BDFIG by optimally selecting theproportional-integral(PI) gains throughinternalmodel control(IMC)approach. The proposed control scheme is utilized to regulate the speed, torque, and reactive power of the considered BDFIG independently. Contraryto the previous literature where the “trial and error method” is generallyutilized, the current research work uses the IMC for selecting the mostsuitable PI parameters, thus reduces the complexity, time consumption, anduncertainty in optimal selection. The considered BDFIG based wind turbinewith the proposed control scheme provides a better BDFIG control designwith an enhanced dynamic response as compared to that of the same withDFIG under identical operating conditions and system configurations.

Abstract

Ahigh-speedrailway (HSR) has gained very high popularity for passengersdue to the fast, reliable, economical and convenient during traveling a verylong-distance journey. Thedemandfor advancedbroadbandservices such aswatching4K movies, cloud computing andonline gaming, has exponentiallyincreased fortravelerson thehigh-speedtrain(HST).The HSTcan’t providegood bandwidth to facilitate these services for travelers via existingtechnologies such as cellular networksand satellite networks because offrequent handoffs, high penetration and fading. So, the bandwidth degradesdramatically due to these issues. Research workers have developed proposalsto handle these problems by advanced transmission technologies for HSR.Until now, varioustransmissionschemeshave beensuggestedby researchworks with thefocusfor either high bandwidth or signal qualityimprovement. This paper presents a survey on advanced transmissiontechnologies for high bandwidth and good signal quality. In this paper, acomprehensive survey of the appropriate literature published that concentrateon advanced transmission methods in HSR communications in getting higherbandwidth efficiency and maximize the signal quality is presented. Advancedtransmission method can be categorized into orthogonal frequencydivisionmultiplexing (OFDM), multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and radio-over-fiber (RoF).

Abstract

Current Harumanismango farming technique in Malaysia still mostlydepends on the farmers' own expertise to monitor the crops from the attack ofpests and insects. This approach is susceptible to human errors, and thosewho do not possess this skill may not be able to detect the disease at the righttime. As leaf diseases seriously affect the crop's growth and the quality of theyield, this study aims to develop a recognition system that detects thepresence of disease in the mango leaf using image processing technique.First, the image is acquired through a smartphone camera; once it has beenpre-processed, it is then segmented in which the RGB image is converted toan HSI image, then the features are extracted. Lastly, the classification ofdisease is done to determine thetype of leaf disease. The proposed systemeffectively detects and classify the disease with an accuracy of 68.89%. Thefindings of this project will contribute to farmers and society's benefit, andresearchers can use the approach to address similar issues in future works.

Abstract

The World Wide Web has become a large pool of information. Extracting structured data from a published web pages has drawn attention in the last decade. The process of web data extraction (WDE) has many challenges, dueto variety of web data and the unstructured data from hypertext mark up language (HTML) files. The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of current web data extraction techniques, in termsof extracted quality data. This paper focuses on study for data extraction using wrapper approaches and compares each other to identify the best approach to extract data from online sites. To observe the efficiency of the proposed model, we compare the performance of data extraction by single web page extraction with different models such as document object model (DOM), wrapper using hybrid dom and json (WHDJ), wrapper extraction of image using DOM and JSON (WEIDJ) and WEIDJ (no-rules). Finally, the experimentations proved that WEIDJ can extract data fastest and low time consuming compared to other proposed method.

Abstract

The modelling of the supercapacitor (SC) plays an important role for the industrial application with many model representations such as electrical, chemical, and electrochemical models. Among one of those models are the equivalent circuit model which has been used to describe the real-time (charging/discharging) operation characteristics of the SC. Apart of its mathematical complexity, the time-consuming experimentally is also a real challenge for obtaining the internal parameters values for the SC. Choices of test equipment with a structure design of experiment also play important criteria affect the accuracy of the model. This research emphasis on a structured of experimental design for SC modelling by using Neware battery tester. The experimental exercise to attain internal parameters of the SC are described and discussed in the paper. The findings were benchmarked with an empirical model of previous researchers. The terminal voltage of SC was validated via experiment with maximum relative error of 0.045%. The model successfully reproduce the SC dynamic behavior during the charge/discharge phase which indicates the proposed method and model accuracy.

Abstract

IT organizations are striving to develop software solutions that meet customer needs as well as their business goals. Software organization scontinuously improve their software development practices for faster time-to-market and better software quality. The success factors to conduct process improvement initiatives are documented in the literature, but their effect and existences differ from one place to another. Hence, as the culture and organizational behavior in developing software varies across the world, it becomes interesting to report and discuss local experiences in differentregions. The experience gained in this empirical study differs from that gained in the previous work in the sense that it was the organization that initiated this initiative and this ensures the top management commitment in conducting the process improvement initiative. We have used CMMI continuous representation and SCAMPI Class C appraisal method to conduct the appraisal. In this empirical study, most of the success factors are met toconduct the process improvement initiative, including: Staff involvement and high staff morale. Several process pitfalls have been identified; an interesting one is that adopting powerful case tools is not enough to control the development process if they are not fully used.

Abstract

Information security is one of the most significant processes that must be taken into account when confidentially transferring information. This paper introduces a steganography technique using the edge detection method. It focused on three basic and important aspects’ payload, quality and security. Well-known edge detectors were used to generate as many edge pixels as possible to hide data and achieve the highest payload. The least significant bit (LSB) algorithm has been improved by extending the bits used to embed between 2-4 bits in smooth and sharp areas. To increase security, the transaction between the two parties is based on dividing the key and the cover image into several parts and agreeing on the type of edge detection. The experiments achieved the maximum load, for instance with a fuzzy edge detector, at first, embedding in 4 bitplanes if edge pixel and in 2 bitplanes if non-edge pixel, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) increased from 43.580to 45.790. At second, embedding in 2 bitplanes if edge pixel, and in 4 bitplanes if non-edge pixel, the PSNR decreased between 38.433-41.593. The suggested scheme achieved a high pay load to embed in the cover image and according to human perception, it preserved the nature of the original image.

Abstract

One of the most commonly used techniques in the recommendation framework is collaborative filtering (CF). It performs better with sufficient records of user rating but is not good in sparse data. Content-based filtering works well in the sparse dataset as it finds the similarity between movies by using attributes of the movies. RBM is an energy-based model serving as a backbone of deep learning and performs well in rating prediction. However, the rating prediction is not preferable by a single model. The hybrid model achieves better results by integrating the results of more than one model. This paper analyses the weighted hybrid CF system by integrating content K-nearest neighbors (KNN) with restricted Boltzmann machine (RBM). Movies are recommended to the active user in the proposed system by integrating the effects of both content-based and collaborative filtering. Model efficacy was tested with MovieLens benchmark datasets.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the design of an automatic control system for the automated management of motor drives through Simocode pro; and determine the effect from the quantitative point of view on the performance of the filling and dispatch process of chemical inputs from the perspective of dispatch time and the amount of input spilled in the tank filling stage. For this, the programming of the programmable logic controller was carried out using the simatic step 7 software, then the distributed control system (DCS Siemens S410) was programmed, using the PCS7 V8.1 software, where the control logic and simocode pro integration is carried out through the profibus protocol, which is monitored from an human-machine interface (HMI) interface. Once the control system was implemented, it was possible to reduce the operating time from 60 minutes on average to 35 minutes, which reflects an improvement of 41.66%; this in turn generates an increase in the number of tank filling by 62.84%. Likewise, it is possible to reduce the amount of chemical inputs spilled in the filling stage; this improvement represents 88.60%.

Abstract

India’s electrical power system grid also known as the power grid is serving us from a very long time. In this duration, there were no major developments or changes reported in the power grid system. Electrical power consumer demand is increasing drastically and the present grid system is not able to fulfil these emerging requirements. To fulfil the requirements of future power load, we need a modified system which has to be reliable, secure, intelligent and efficient. By converting the power grid into the smart grid will be a promising solution for adopting the above properties. Communication Infrastructure is a major part of the smart grid. The end-user can reduce their expenditure on electricity demand by using smart home appliance, to keep away from the rush hours and also make use of the renewable energy instead from utility, is a great example of deployment of internet of things (IoT) in grid communication. In this paper, we have provided a survey of different communication technology, applications, benefits and challenges in communication infrastructure, spatially IoT.
