Abstract

The automatic detection of anomaly events in video sequence has become a critical issue and essential demand for the extensive deployment of computer vision systems such as video surveillance applications. An anomaly event in video can be denoted as outlier behavior within video frames which formulated by a deviation from the stable scene. In this paper, an anomaly event detection and localization method in video sequence is presented including multilevel strategy as temporal frames differences estimation, modelling of normal and abnormal behavior using regression model and finally density–based clustering to detect the outliers (abnormal event) at clips level. Hence, outlier score is obtained at the segment or clip level along video frames sequences. The proposed method seplits video frames into nonoverlapped clips using global outlier detection process. Afterward, at each clip, the local outliers are determined based on density of each clip. Extensive experiments were conducted upon two public video datasets which include dense and scattered outliers along video sequence. The experiments were performed on two common public datasets (Avenue) and University of California, San Diego (UCSD). The experimental results exhibited that the proposed method detects well outlier frames at clip level with lower computational complexity comparing to the state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract

Technological advances offer a new shift of change for society. In this era, it is almost impossible to come by without its help. The Malaysian government has invested highly in information and communications technology (ICT) for online teaching and learning at the current time. Digital technologies have been integrated into the teaching and learning process in almost all public or private schools in Malaysia. The use of multimedia tools has enabled learners to understand difficult concepts or ideas and different types of learning preferences. The purpose of the study is to identify pre-service teachers’ perceptions towards using online teaching platforms as a mode of teaching tool in carrying out service-learning in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic. Survey research was carried out on 94 final-year pre-service teachers from diploma in teaching english as a second language. Findings revealed that pre-service teachers had shown positive perceptions of online teaching platforms for remote teaching. Findings had also shown that pre-service teachers preferred blended learning by combining both classroom and online teaching over traditional classrooms per se.

Abstract

Building energy management systems (BEMS) are critical tools for managing and controlling a facility's technical systems and services, such as lighting, ventilation, heating, and air conditioning, to ensure that the building operates at peak efficiency while decreasing energy waste. The Mabini Building at De La Salle Lipa has nearly a hundred rooms, 70 of which are used by college students for lecture and laboratory classes. From 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., these rooms are available. In a daily class schedule, air conditioning units and lights are used an average of 10 hours per day, while fans and power outlets are used an average of 5 hours. Even when no classes are being held, the aforementioned equipment is frequently left open in these rooms. The researchers created and constructed an IoT-based energy monitoring system to monitor and control the lights and outlets in a room. The system will also record the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed. The system employs NodeMCU, current, and voltage sensors, a Raspberry Pi 3, and the school's existing network to send and receive data from the server. The building administrator will use the collected data to give consumption statistics and reduce the carbon footprint.

Abstract

The availability of high and very high-resolution imagery is helpful for forest inventory, particularly to measure the stand variables such as canopy dimensions, canopy density, and crown closure. This paper describes the examination of mean shift (MS) algorithm on wetland lowland forest. The study objective was to find the optimal parameters for crown closure segmentation Pleiades-1B and SPOT-6 imageries. The study shows that the segmentation of crown closure with the red band of Pleiades-1B image would be well segmented by using the parameter combination of (hs: 6, hr: 5, M: 33) having overall accuracy of 88.93% and Kappa accuracy of 73.76%, while the red, green, blue (RGB) composite of SPOT-6 image, the optimal parameter combination was (hs:2, hr: 8, M: 11), having overall accuracy of 85.72% and kappa accuracy of 68.33%. The Pleiades-1B image with a spatial resolution of (0.5 m) provides better accuracy than SPOT-5 of (1.5 m) spatial resolution. The differences between single spectral, synthetic, and RGB does not significantly affect the accuracy of segmentation. The study concluded that the segmentation of high and very high-resolution images gives promising results on forest inventory.

Abstract

The small-sized wideband antenna is one of the antennas used in the medical field to detect body tissue. The antenna's direct contact with the human body causes reflected signal due to the high body coupling, and the narrower bandwidth tends to reduce the data transfer rate in transmission. Therefore, this paper aims to design a wideband antenna with wearable properties operated in the frequency range of 3 GHz to 6 GHz. The antenna is designed with a rectangular-shaped patch with notches and the t-slot shaped partial slot ground. The connected speech test (CST) studio suite software is used to design and optimize the miniature antenna, which measures 24 mm (W) x 38 mm (L) x 0.168 mm (H). The antenna is then embedded with polydimethylsilixane (PDMS) at the top half of the antenna with the dimension 24 mm (W) x 19 mm (L) x 1 mm (H) and also fully occupied. The antenna is configured with the bending capabilities to adapt the human body surface at an angle of 30º. The antenna is having the benefits of small size, cost-effective, and easy to fabricate. The antenna design can effectively detect unusual body tissue, and it safe to be used.

Abstract

This study proposes a new rain attenuation prediction model (RAM) based on the rain cell concept for tropical locations. The new model addresses the research gap in the international telecommunications union (ITU) model. Results obtained show that the proposed RAM predicted the possibility of signal across seven (7) out of thirteen (13) stations monitored. The predicted attenuation values were 18.3427 dB, 18.8106 dB, 18.3921 dB, 13.8062 dB, 20.8803 dB, 9.4519 dB, and 19.6018 dB for Jalingo, Jos, Makurdi, Mubi, Otukpo, Sokoto, and Abuja respectively. However, the RAM predicted outage across six stations with predicted attenuation values of 31.7040 dB, 26.8302 dB, 28.6635 dB, 29.6562 dB, 28.8827 dB, and 30.0614 dB for Akwa-Ibom, Benin, Donga, Port-Harcourt, Owerri, and Aba respectively. The proposed RAM hence suggests an additional Ku-band spot beam power of at least 331.97 watts for Nigeria's Nigerian communication satellite-1 (NIGCOMSAT-1R) Ku-band transponder to overcome the predicted attenuation across the six stations which recorded signal outage. The results from this study can be used by network engineers for the implementation of fade mitigation techniques (FMTs) such as site diversity and power control to aid telecommunication networks anticipate changes and allocate resources accordingly.

Abstract

Circuit tourism allows for inclusive growth of tourism since it allows for multi-site visits. Normally three or more tourist attractions are linked together in a tour of the tourist’s choosing. The main objective of this study is to develop an android-based application for searching tourist spots in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines that is also capable of recommending succeeding places to visit using A* algorithm. Upon development of the application, this paper proves that A* algorithm can be used to recommend another tourist spot by analyzing the distance of the tourist spots near the user, and the most convenient routes through which they can be reached. Based on backward and forward compatibility testing, the application is operating system friendly, since it can be used in lower versions of android. Further, it is shown in the users’ evaluation that the application is acceptable to the locals of Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines. The application also contributes to advertising other tourist spots in the said municipality, specially those who were not so popular to the tourists.

Abstract

In this paper the reliability of reduction oxygen supply system (ROSS) of a spacecraft which was calculated as a complex system using minimal cut method. The reliability of each component of system was calculated as well as the reliability importance of the system. The cost of each component of the system was possible approaches of the allocation values of reliability based the minimization of the overall cost in this system. The advantage of this algorithm can be used to allocate the optimization of reliability for simple or complex system. This optimization is achieved using the Jaya algorithm. The proposed technique is based on the notion that a conclusion reached on a particular problem should pass near the best results and avoid the worst outcomes. The original findings of this paper are: i) the system used in this paper is a spacecraft’s reduced oxygen supply system with the logarithmic cost function; and ii) the results obtained were by using the Jaya algorithm to solve specific system reliability optimization problems.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to assess the utilization of one of Indonesia's most popular digital wallets. Respondents in this study range in age from 15 to 44 years old and live on Java Island. The author employs the unified theory of acceptance and utilization of technology (UTAUT) paradigm to assess the use of this digital wallet. This UTAUT model comprises four latent variables that affect behavioral intention (BI) and use behavior (UB): performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), and facilitating conditions (FC). In this study, the UTAUT model is combined with two additional variables: perceived risk (PR) and promotional benefits (PB). According to the findings, performance expectancy, social influence, and perceived risk all have an impact on behavioral intention, whereas effort expectancy has a less impact. Furthermore, the factors facilitating conditions and promotional benefits have a minor impact on use behavior, whereas behavioral intention factors have a considerable impact on use behavior.

Abstract

Web service (WS) discovery is an essential task for implementing complex applications in a service oriented architecture (SOA), such as selecting, composing, and providing services. This task is limited semantically in the incorporation of the customer’s request and the web services. Furthermore, applying suitable similarity methods for the increasing number of WSs is more relevant for efficient web service discovery. To overcome these limitations, we propose a new approach for web service discovery integrating multiple similarity measures and k-means clustering. The approach enables more accurate services appropriate to the customer's request by calculating different similarity scores between the customer's request and the web services. The global semantic similarity is determined by applying k-means clustering using the obtained similarity scores. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed semantic web service discovery approach outperforms the state-of-the approaches in terms of precision (98%), recall (95%), and F-measure (96%). The proposed approach is efficiently designed to support and facilitate the selection and composition of web services phases in complex applications.
