Abstract

This paper addresses networked control problems which arise in the coordinated motion control of autonomous and semiautonomous mobile agents, where the sensors and controllers are geographically separated and connected by digital communication channels carrying a finite number of bits per unit time. Different from the existing results, this case with quantized output measurements and limited data rates is considered. A quantization, coding and control scheme is presented under communication constraints. In particular, it is shown that the unstable plant may be stabilizable in the mean square sense if the data rate of the channel is greater than the lower bound proposed in our results. Abstract

Aiming at the problem of uneven load in clustering Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), a kind of load balance routing algorithm based on uneven clustering is proposed to do uneven clustering and calculate optimal number of clustering. This algorithm prevents the number of common node under some certain cluster head from being too large which leads load to be overweight to death through even node clustering. It constructs evaluation function which can better reflect residual energy distribution of nodes and at the same time constructs routing evaluation function between cluster heads which uses MATLAB to do simulation on the performance of this algorithm. Simulation result shows that the routing established by this algorithm effectively improves network’s energy balance and lengthens the life cycle of network. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i10.3403

Abstract

Currently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been utilized extensively to obtain high contrast medical image due to its safety which can be applied repetitively. Edges are represented as important contour features in the medical image since they are the boundaries where distinct intensity changes or discontinuities occur. Many traditional algorithms have been proposed to detect the edge, such as Canny, Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Zerocross, and Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG). Moreover, many researches have shown the potential of using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for edge detection. Although many algorithms have been conducted on edge detection for medical images, however higher computational cost and subjective image quality could be further improved. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to develop a fast ANN based edge detection algorithm for MRI medical images. First, we developed features based on horizontal, vertical, and diagonal difference. Then, Canny edge detector will be used as the training output. Finally, optimized parameters will be obtained, including number of hidden layers and output threshold. Results showed that the proposed algorithm provided better image quality while it has faster processing time around three times time compared to other traditional algorithms, such as Sobel and Canny edge detector.

Abstract

The present study studied structure analysis and sensor modules for explosion-proof thermal type flow sensors that can withstand the poor surroundings of vessel engines and power plants and can be installed in gas lines. The structure analysis evaluated the integrity of the structures of the explosion-proof thermal type flow sensors with finite element analysis, and with regard to the operation of the sensor modules, those sensor modules that can detect environments where vibrations occur or where there are flows of high pressure gases or fluids were researched and developed. The explosion-proof thermal type flow sensor module consists of a sensing part, an adjustment part, and an output part, and a noise prevention circuit was added to secure the stability of the measurement signals. The flow sensor developed with the present study is a sensor module capable of measuring flows in domestic gas engines and gas piping and it is presented as a reliable sensor module because it is strong against vibrations and has excellent explosion-proof performance.

Abstract

This paper designs a dual topological structure of grid-connected inverter for high-power wind turbine, introduces PWM converter's operational state, and establishes its mathematical model, then it puts forward the dual closed-loop vector control strategy of grid-side converter based on dq coordinate. The combination of the dual topological structure and decoupling control realizes the functioning of high-power factor and two-way transmission of energy. Grid-side converter can stabilize DC side voltage and adjust active or reactive output current independently when wind velocity changes rapidly, which leads to the change of output power in generator. The hardware experiment and simulation results verify the feasibility of the proposed control scheme in both the high stability accuracy and excellent property of grid-connection. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i4.2385

Abstract

The continuing advancement of technology had provided security issues in protecting the confidentiality of information. The need to protect unauthorized access of a third party is warranted.  In this paper, the reduced-round modified AES with revised round keys and key schedule is proposed to ensure file confidentiality.  The modifications to the AES cipher round was the reduction of the round iterations from 10 to 6, and additional key permutations were added in between states; while in the key schedule, additional byte substitution process was appended.  Time and throughput were utilized to measure the performance of the application's encryption/decryption process; while the avalanche effect and randomness tests were used to measure the security of the modified AES algorithm.  The results of evaluations have shown that the encryption and decryption time have improved by 1.27% and 1.21% respectively while the throughput has similarly improved by 1.29% and 3.19% for both encryption and decryption respectively.  Whereas the avalanche effect of the modified AES was 50.06% which was more than the ideal value of 50% and it was also better than the standard AES which was 49.94% using the sample dataset.  Finally, all the ciphertext outputs of the modified AES passed the randomness tests.

Abstract

Tuning of controllers for multivariable process is a difficult task because of interaction involved among the variables. In this paper, a simple tuning strategy is used for design of a multi-loop PI controller to achieve desired frequency response for interactive multivariable processes. To handle the loop interaction, a pairing of controlled variable and manipulted variable is determined based on the integrity obtained from effective relative gain (ERG) and Niederlinski’s Index (NI).Then the Equivalent transfer function of model is approximated by the use of relative frequency array (RFA), Relative Gain Array (RGA). Finally a Decentralized PI controller is designed for suggested pair of variables to achieve desired gain, phase margins. The performance is verified on the industrial multivariable processe models to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results clearly reveal that, it gives better performance for set point changes and disturbance rejection. Simulation results are included to validate the robustness of the presented algorithm.

Abstract

Due to the advent developments in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based environment, Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) have fascinated much concentration because of their mobility and easy deployment. At the same time, their wireless and vibrant features make them susceptible to wide range of types of security attacks when compared to the traditional wired networks. The prime challenge is to assure security in the network components and services. To work out the challenge, novel security measures are put forward for effective and secured communication. In our proposed work, we discuss the need for Security in MANET, focusing on certificate revocation. Providing security is challenging tasks due to its key features. Different authentication techniques, Digital certificate and components of Public Key Infrastructure are also discussed. The certificate revocation is a challenging task in MANETs due to absence of centralized repositories and trusted authorities. The different methods of certificate revocation using cluster based mechanism is analyzed and compared. The principle, advantages and disadvantages of certificate revocation are also compared. And the novel Certificate revocation techniques using fuzzy is discussed with reduced overhead.

Abstract

A Management and control of irrigation canals is a very important task whether for irrigation of agricultural land, to provide clean water, or to avoid floods. Irrigation canals are sometimes subject to intense variations due to climate change and inclement weather. For this reasons, a robust controller that allows dealing with large variation in operating conditions is proposed to control the water level of a multi-pool open irrigation canal prototype. The main objective of this study is to regulate the downstream level of each canal's pool at a constant value even with inflow disturbances.  The robust controller is designed and tested in simulation for different operating conditions. The results obtained show the good behavior and the effectiveness of the designed controller.

Abstract

A traditional assumption underlying most data converters is that the signal should be sampled at a rate exceeding twice the highest frequency. In this paper, we employ a method for low-rate sampling of multi- band signals via applying periodic nonuniform sampling in shift-invariant spaces generated by m kernels with period T. So, the sampling and reconstruction of signals were transformed into matrix and vector operations, the generalized inverse can be use to find the answer and an interpolator is used to insure that complete reconstruction will be achieved. Finally, we validate the method in MATLAB; the conclusion of simulation shows the frame-work presented here is feasible.
