Abstract

Metal artifacts seriously degrade CT image quality, and even restrict the using of computed tomography imaging. In this paper, the authors propose a metal artifact reduction algorithm to suppress the metal artifacts in CT image. The metal artifact reduction algorithm, in this paper, includes six steps: coarse metal implant segmentation, nearly accurate metal object segmentation, forward projection, polynomial-based fit, adaptive scaling as well as final image reconstruction. Experiment on image showed that RMSEs between the corrected image using polynomial fit, nearest interpolation, linear interpolation and spline interpolation and ideal model image are 0.20912, 0.33252, 0.24257 and 0.26791, respectively. It has the potential to greatly improve the quality of CT image and suppress the metal artifacts. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i2.3623

Abstract

This paper proposes an enhance version of the dual parameter based cost function algorithm for time-varying environments. For ideal channel condition, the proposed cost function algorithm adaptively change the transmission data rate according to traffic load condition. However, similar approach is not well-suited for time-varying environment. For time-varying condition, transmission of packet at lower transmission data rate is much preferred in order to achieve reliable transmission. In addition to that, packet transmission at lower data rate contributes to low energy consumption due to lower transmit power used to transmit packet. This paper presents a combination of cost function algorithm with adaptive rate/power. Adaptation of transmission data rate and transmit power for time varying condition are carried out based on received power values. An OPNET based simulation model was developed to analyses the performance of the propose algorithm. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the energy efficiency of a WLAN while maintaining the network QoS in fading channel environments.

Abstract

A classification of acoustic emission signals has great significance. The best parameters of the RBF kernel had obtained by using grid optimization method, and the classifier had built to achieve the identification and classification of acoustic emission signals. The simulation results show that support vector machine can effectively distinguish different acoustic emission signal and noise signal.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i5.1387

Abstract

Vision system applied in electrical power generated mobile robot to provide a comfortable ride while providing comfort to tourist to interact with visitors. The camera is placed in front of the mobile robot to snap the images along in pathways. The system can recognized the sign which are right, left and up by using Harris corner algorithms and will be display in Graphical User Interface (GUI). A sign can be determined from the vertex coordinates according to the degree to distinguish the direction of the sign. The system will be tested in term of percentage of success in Harris point detection and availability to detect sign with different range. The result show the even though not all Harris point in an image can be detected but most of the images possible to recognise it sign direction.

Abstract

Abstract—This paper presents a simulation study of Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) using 3D point cloud data from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology.  Methods like simulation is useful to simplify the process of learning algorithms particularly when collecting and annotating large volumes of real data is impractical and expensive. In this study, a map of a given environment was constructed in Robotic Operating System platform with Gazebo Simulator. The paper begins by presenting the most currently popular algorithm that are widely used in SLAM namely Extended Kalman Filter, Graph SLAM and Fast SLAM. The study performed the simulations by using standard SLAM with Turtlebot and Husky robots. Husky robot was further compared with ACML algorithm. The results showed that Hector SLAM could reach the goal faster than ACML algorithm in a pre-defined map. Further studies in this field with other SLAM algorithms would certainly beneficial to many parties due to the demands of robotic application.

Abstract

The future personal and home demand of big data helped fuel an explosion of development in network disk device market. Compared to a traditional USB hard drive, it separated the user from the hard disk, enjoyed the advantage of accessing from anywhere for unspecific user and easy operation and easy expansion. The paper established the remote access to hard drives via browser with Xilinx's XUPV5 LX110T FPGA development board. The system mounted an ATA host controller IP core and connected it to the network with RJ45. By porting PetaLinux operating system to the MicroBlaze embedded processor of FPGA, an independent FAT32 file system module was added, the users could establish the remote access to hard drives with specific CGI programs through the WEB browser. It was tested that Personal/Home Network Disk can meet the standards of basic file operation. DOI : http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v12i6.5472

Abstract

Information integrating in Semantic Concept Networks(SCN) is one of the important operations in these networks. These operations require resource usage. Due to the limited resource of units, the resource productivity should be considered as a key objective in design of Semantic Concept Networks. Therefore the Integrating is a suitable method that used in resource usage management. For this purpose many methods have been proposed. In this paper, the idea of not sending time correlated information of units has been considered by using the sequential function. Also, a model to estimate the remaining resource of units by the base station has been presented. The proposed ideas have been implemented over the LANDING-C protocol. Evaluation results showed that the proposed methods had a better performance in resource usage and the lifetime of the network in comparison with similar methods. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i3.2176

Abstract

Reading Al-Quran is one of spiritual activities and as for Muslims, and they believed God would reward those who read and practice it. In order to dedicate remaining years of their life to God and to bring peace of mind, most of the senior citizens are spending their time doing spiritual activities such as reciting Al-Quran. With the advancement of technology, the sources of Al-Quran are also changing. There are many Al-Quran application being developed in the market and can be download and install easily in mobile devices such as smartphone. However, the application that have been developed often ignored needs and limitation of senior users, that causing them to feel unease to use the mobile application. Hence, the purpose of this study is to investigate the user interface design principles of mobile Al-Quran application for senior citizens. For this purpose, the study has conducted a literature review, interview session usability study, the user interface design principles were identified. Using the principles, this study proposed a mobile application and an observation has been conducted with the senior citizens as a validation of the principles. Validation is based on usability evaluation on effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. The results show that the application is satisfactory and usable for the users. In future, the same research interest researcher can explore the audio and navigating in the interface by audio commands. The prototype could be extended to meet the needs of senior citizens that having the problem such as Parkinson and Alzheimer disease.

Abstract

In order to make radar target track simulation more realistic in simulation test-bed of C3I system, a new method which utilizes data mining techniques based on historical radar data is proposed. This method includes two stages: The first is “filtering separation - piecewise fitting - feature clustering". In this stage, the radar historical data is divided into the actual true track and noise. Through computing the second-order discrete curvature, the actual true track is decomposed into several segments, such as straight line and arc, which are fitted with multinomial subsequently. On this basis, after analyzing the characteristic vector of radar historical data, the clustering database can be established; the second is “feature association-track recombination”. The track in pre-deigned air scenario is segmented by the second-order discrete curvature. After the correlative feature information of the segmented scenario is searched, matched and associated with the information in clustering database, a new track will be restructured by using this output results. This method is very available for its effective and successful application in simulation test-bed of C3I system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i7.2823
