Abstract

The low conversion energy efficiency of solar panel is affected by the several environmental issues. Solar radiation, ambient temperature, dust accumulation and wind velocity are the environmental problems. This main goal of this paper is to understanding the solar panel behavior under varying of wind velocity amounts. A three-dimension (3-D) model of solar panel is conducted in the present investigation. The solar panel model is simulated under given operating condition and different amounts of wind velocity. Four different of wind velocity value of 0 m/s, 0.43 m/s, 2.5 m/s and 6.95 m/s was selected to examine the solar panel performance. The simulation results are obtained with ANSYS simulation software. The temperature distribution of the solar panel model will be discussed in this current paper. The simulation result is showed highest wind velocity can be provided good cooling effect for the solar panel model in order to enable the solar panel can be operated to perform well at lower temperature.

Abstract

Over the last couple of decades, pulsed electric field (PEF) attained substantial consideration in the food industry with an effort to generate replacements to conventional thermal treatment. It is recognised to produce secure and chill-stable liquid food samples with fresh and nutritional qualities. The uniform electric field in the treatment zone has been recognised as the main handling parameter. The design of the treatment chamber shows an essential impact on the effectiveness of the procedure by controlling homogenous treatment. This study revealed the homogeneity of the electric field strength of the different existing treatment chambers through COMSOL Multiphysics. It adopted a study to design a co-axial treatment chamber for continuous treatment of liquid samples. This research helps to take some fundamental designing steps for a new treatment chamber with a uniform distribution of the electric field.

Abstract

Optimal power flow (OPF) study is conducted on a power system to achieve one of the following objectives: cost/loss minimization or available transfer capability (ATC) calculation in a deregulated environment. Distributed generation (DG) is a small source of electric power conversion from non-conventional energy sources and Hybrid DGs which often the most cost-effective and reliable way to produce power. The optimality of control variables and minimum value of objective functions in OPF study would definitely change when DGs are interconnected to the grid. The change would be respect to the location, quantity and combination of power injection by DGs. On the other hand, FACTS controllers are effective in utilizing the existing of transmission network which is very important especially in a deregulated system. Unified power flow controller (UPFC), a second generation FACTS controller, is well known for minimizing the cost of generation/losses with a good voltage profile as well as for ATC improvement. This paper conducts a detailed OPF study on a 9 bus system for the above mentioned three objectives to analyze the effect of DGs with and without UPFC. From the results, it is found that hybrid DGs along with UPFC yields better performance in many aspects. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i3.601

Abstract

This paper presents proposed SMART (Systematic Monitoring of Arterial Road Traffic Signals) traffic control signal in Brunei Darussalam. Traffic congestion due to stops and delays at traffic light signals has much been complained about in Brunei Darussalam as well as across the world during the recent years. There are primarily two types of traffic signal controls in Brunei Darussalam. The most common one is the fixed or pre-timed signal operation traffic light and the other one is the actuated signal operation traffic light. Although the actuated signal control is more efficient than the fixed or pre-fixed signal control in the sense that it provides fewer stops and delays to traffic on the major arteries, the best option for Brunei Darussalam would be to introduce smart traffic control signal. This type of traffic signal uses artificial intelligence to take the appropriate action by adjusting the times in real time to minimise the delay in the intersection while also coordinating with intersections in the neighbourhood. SMART Signal simultaneously collects event-based high-resolution traffic data from multiple intersections and generates real-time signal performance measures, including arterial travel time, number of stops, queue length, intersection delay, and level of service. In Brunei Darussalam, where we have numerous intersections where several arterial roads are linked to one another, The SMART signal traffic control method should be implemented.

Abstract

Mathematical logic is the logical basis of the modern computer. It is important for the development of the electronic computer. With the development of computer technology, especially the development of computer visualization technology, the two-dimensional objects, such as graph and table, are more and more frequently as the computer processing object. But, the traditional one-dimensional character grammar already can not process. Then graph grammars that based on the two-dimensional arise at the historic moment. In order to provide the visual logic reasoning mathematical foundation, this paper introduces the basic theory of graph grammars. Through the propositional calculus and propositional logic reasoning two aspects of graphical description, we use graph grammars to construct propositional calculus and propositional reasoning. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i8.3023

Abstract

Hammer mills are widely used for material size reduction in food and feed industries. In this paper, a new hammer mill with separate sieving device has been designed and fabricated, in which the so-called material-circulation layer can not be formed and material being ground passes through the sieve by rotor throwing and air blowing without direct rubbing with the sieve. Thus the new machine has the advantages in high productivity, low energy consumption, low sieve wearing, and especially,  the low product temperature increase, which is favorable to  feed quality and feed preserving. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i6.1407

Abstract

In this paper, the optimal sizing of CMOS RF square spiral integrated inductor utilizing three meta-heuristic techniques namely Ant Colony Optimization, Artificial Bee Colony and Differential Evolution is presented. The π-model is employed for the characterization of inductor behavior. In this optimization procedure, the geometrical parameters of the CMOS RF square spiral integrated inductor are considered as the design variables that satisfy the most important constraints such as the fixed value of required inductance 4nH at the operating frequency 2.4 GHz. The design of the integrated square spiral inductor is done with UMC 130 nm CMOS technology. A comparison between the used meta-heuristic techniques is emphasized. The optimization results are checked and validated by the mean of the Momentum advanced design system (ADS).

Abstract

Electrical Discharge Machining, EDM is a nonconventional and high precision machining.  EDM system is considered a combination of servo system and EDM process. The servo system precisely controls the gap between electrode and workpiece for the continuous electrical discharges occurrence. Machining performance and stability depend on the performance of servo system. The EDM servo system usually modeled as a linear system, which ignores the nonlinearities of the motor. An assumption that the nonlinearities are insignificant in EDM system model may leads to modeling errors and result in poor control performance. In this study, nonlinear EDM servo system model was presented and the dynamic response of the model was analyzed and compared with the linear model. Simulation result shows a slightly difference in system response and a controller used in linear model is less efficient for a nonlinear EDM servo system model. The results are very useful for control strategy and can contribute to a better machining performance and stability of EDM applications.

Abstract

The use of fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate festivities is a very common activity in the Philippines. But due to the lack of strict control and regulation, there are unwanted risks of accidents from occurring due to the poor handling and storage conditions of these devices. Proper monitoring is important to reduce any unnecessary risks imposed on human life and property. While existing storage monitoring devices exist, the developed prototype is designed to contain sensors that are more suited in monitoring the ideal conditions of where the fireworks are stored. Monitoring the climate conditions on these devices may seem trivial at first, but such climate change can involve a rapid rise in temperature that can accidentally ignite the fireworks and deal with catastrophic damage. Another concern is the rise of humidity that may alter that chemical characteristics of the gunpowder stored in the fireworks.  Such changes may not have any noticeable effects until it arrives in the consumer, that may experience an unwanted and unintended change in the performance of the fireworks leading to accidents. Therefore, it is important for this device to properly monitor the surrounding area then indicate various forms of alarms as a method of redundancy.
