Nowaday, Corporate Socially Responsible (CSR) mutual funds are becoming a popular investment option for investors. However, no any research confirms whether CSR Mutual fund activity is better than market index or not. Besides, we should have one method can help con sequently investors in making the decision to select appropriate investment funds. In this study, we measure the financial performance of a sample of 15 CSR mutual funds in the world, with the monthly return over the period 2008-2013, then we propose the dession table. We first use the measures to evaluate the performance of mutual funds such as Alpha (α), Sharpe Ratio (SR), and Information Ratio (IR). And then, we use the obtained decision table to evaluate the predictability by each measure. The results indicate that only 3 of the 15 CSR mutual funds achieve good performance results based on the statistical significance of the two measures Sharpe Ratio and Information Ratio. In addition, the IR is suggested to evaluate and make investment decisions in the future and it also is the best one among the three measures. The decision table suggest investors a measure forecast accuracy way.

Thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) is a commonly used method of compensation of reactive power on the grid, but problems are that the compensator responses slowly and real-time tracking capability is poor. So software and hardware are developed. The fuzzy-PI controller is adopted to control TSC. And this controller is embedded in the field programmable gate array (FPGA), which can take advantage of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). The detailed analysis is given. Simulation and field test show that the design improves speed, reliability and stability of the controller. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i8.3077

Satellite link design, link margin and services at lower bands of satellite spectrum has been facing the challenges of meeting the demands for higher bandwidth requirements. Satellite operators and service providers are been compelled to migrate to the use of higher frequencies above 10 GHz. These higher frequencies were discovered to be vulnerable to atmospheric degradation creating the challenge of service availability especially for tropical rain zones with higher rainfall intensities and longer rain event durations. This study strive to evaluate the profile of rainfall and the monthly and annual variability to improve the design parameters of satellite propagation. Two yeas rainfall measurement campaign was conducted in Abuja at Nigcomsat-1R ground station with a view to understanding the characteristics of Abuja rain. The location of the site is on lat. 9.06o N and lon. 7.48o E. Tipping bucket rain gauge was used for point rain rate and 1.8 m VSAT antenna was installed to monitor the rain induced attenuation on satellite broadband signal. The results shows a huge variability between month to month as well as annual average between 2016 and 2017. The performance of broadband satellite service was found to largely to depend on the quality of the carrier power above the system noise rather than bandwidth capacity or the receive signal level while higher attenuations are associated with higher rain intensities and the slant path effects.

Robotic technology has affected the education field, and even early education involves robot to attract Kids. Technical education is the notion of giving students knowledge of robots and technology. The main contribution of our research is to provide an interactive way of learning for kids through play and fun method. Two approaches proposed here: first, we provide an interactive game by touching robots body parts to teach kids how they were practising their motoric nerve and the listening to the instruction. In this game, kids asked to find some robot parts such as right hand, or left hand, where it equipped with a tactile sensor. The game difficulty can be increased by setting up the time limit for the answer and make kids touch the body parts of the robot very fast. The second learning method is practising number counting and pronunciation with NAO Robots. The robots will do computer vision processing to analyse and pronounce the kids handwriting with an artificial neural network. The result of implementation has obtained more than 75% success rate on recognition part with loss es than 0.6. The system received strong appreciation from kids and their parent, while This research believed able to attract kids to study in interactive and fun ways.

Discussing of water vapor and its variation is the important issue for synoptic meteorology and meteorology. In physical Atmospheric, the moisture content of the earth atmosphere is one of the most important parameters, it is hard to represent water vapor because of its space-time variation. High-spectral resolution Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) data can be used to retrieve the small scale vertical structure of air temperature, which provided a more accurate and good initial field for the numerical forecasting and the large-scale weather analysis. This paper proposes an artificial neural network to retrieve the clear sky atmospheric radiation data from AIRS and comparing with the AIRS Level-2 standard product, and gain a good inversion results. Mechanical fault diagnosis is a feature extraction and pattern recognition process. The feature extraction is related to the accuracy of fault diagnosis and the reliability of the prediction. How to extract fault features effectively and build an accurate model to recognize fault is the key of diagnosis technology. Accordingly, a feature extraction method based on LMD-approximate entropy was proposed, and combined it with LSSVM to diagnose mechanical fault. Firstly, the decomposition of fault feature by LMD, and then the approximate entropy of product function were taken to extract fault features accurately. Finally, the eigenvectors were input to LS-SVM for fault recognition. Compared with EMD and wavelet decomposition, the results show that it can extract fault features effectively and can improve the accuracy and speed of fault diagnosis. High levels of reliability and high security are the basic characteristics and requirements of railway signal systems. So, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) are necessarily analyzed before the computer interlocking system will be adopted. The All-electronic Computer Interlocking System, which is a new kind of interlocking system, still needs to analyze its RAM before being put to use. In this paper, the reliability methods and Markov model are adopted to analyze the RAM indexes of the All-electronic Computer Interlocking System when its execution layer equipped with the single configuration or the dual-redundant configuration, the paper also compares the indexes with that of the traditional computer-based interlocking system. Finally, the paper will briefly include suggestions on how the All-electronic Computer Interlocking System’s RAM indexes may be increased and also, how the system may be used practically.

All children throughout the world aged 4 to 17 are going to schools every weekdays. The most common transport used by children is school bus. In many countries accross the globe, most children uses school bus services to go to school and return back home especially to working parents. Although safety of their children is always the main concern of all parents especially the young ones, they have to rely on the bus services due to time constraints during working hours. Sometimes parents need to call the bus driver to ensure their children has reached home or school. This will create inconvenience to bus driver and may lead to other unwanted consequences. Realizing the root of this problem, a school bus safety and security system has been proposed. The school bus safety and security system is a solution based on Short Messaging System that notifies parents if their children have safely arrived at home or school. RFID and GSM technologies are the main technique proposed in this project. RFID is used for several purposes; to identify the children and parents’ contact number, and attendance monitoring through head count system. GSM is used as a commucation platform to inform parents’ on their children’s movement via SMS. Several tests have been conducted to analyse the overall performance of the developed hardware prototype. From the results, it can be concluded that the developed project is successfully identify the children based on their unique ID, send a text message through SMS to parents with required information; and additional feature of attendance checker. The hardware prototype was successfully tested for children’s identification, attendance and SMS notifications to parents. As a consequence, this project could increase the safety and security solution for children travelling with school bus transportation and give parents peace of mind.
