Abstract

Network reliability is valuable in establishing a survivable communication network. Reliability evaluation algorithms are used in the design stage and during the network deployment. This work presents a new multistage hybrid technique for two-terminal reliability evaluation problem. It is based on a combination of graph reduction techniques and tie-set method. A new approach has been introduced for deducing tie-sets in a network containing both unidirectional and bi-directional edges. The proposed algorithm can be applied for both simple and complex networks without restrictions. The results confirm that new algorithm evaluates network's reliability with decreasing computing time compared to classical algorithms. The results for a case study of a 20-node network have demonstrated that the required time for reliability evaluation is decreased from (t>1 hour) in the case of using a classical algorithm, to (t<1 second) for the new algorithm.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to assess the financial performance of Malaysian Healthcare companies using the multi-criteria and decision-making method, namely technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The financial data of 20 companies in 2019 are retrieved from Datastream. For many years, ratios of financial aspects have been employed to analyse the companies’ financial performance. However, some studies indicate that the traditional ratio analysis is insufficient to measure a firm's financial performance. Thus, this paper employs the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution, or simply TOPSIS, to gain a more comprehensive result. The TOPSIS approach involves seven steps, utilizing significant ratios in financial aspect such as debt ratio, debt to equity ratio, current ratio, return on equity (ROE), acid-test ratio, earnings per share (EPS), and return on asset (ROA), as the criteria to evaluate the companies' financial performances. The result of this study ranks 20 healthcare companies in Malaysia and makes recommendations for investment-worthy companies to the investors, allowing the maximization of investment benefits. The results from this research are crucial for investors, companies, market participants, public and private policymakers to enhance their investment decision-making.

Abstract

Power grids are being transformed into a smart distribution network that incorporates multiple distributed energy resources (DERs), ensuring stable operation and improved power quality at the same time. Many research papers have been published in recent years that discuss the voltage violation issues that emerge from the high penetration of distributed generation (DG). In this paper, we propose a new optimal voltage control technique based on feedforward neural networks (FFNN) to maintain a stable voltage profile. MATLAB®/Simulink® has been used to carry out the simulation. The simulation results show the efficiency of this method in voltage control. The proposed approach ensured a stable voltage profile for the considered schemes.

Abstract

In medical practices, the storage space of electrocardiogram (ECG) records is a major concern. These records can contain hours of recording, necessitating a large amount of storage space. This problem is commonly addressed by compressing the ECG signal. The proposed work deal with the ECG signal compression method for ECG signals using discrete wavelet transform (DWT). The DWT appeared as powerful tools to compact signals and shows a signal in another time-frequency representation. It is very appropriate in the elimination & removal of redundancy. The ECG signals are decomposed using DWT. After that, the coefficients that result from DWT are threshold depending on the energy packing efficiency (EPE) of the signal. The compression is achieved by the quantization and dual encoding techniques (run-length encoding & Huffman encoding). The dual encoding technique compresses data significantly. The result of the proposed method shows better performance with compression ratios and good quality reconstructed signals. For example, the compression ratio (CR)=20.6, 10.7 and 11.1 with percent root mean square difference (PRD)=1%, 0.9% and 1% for using different DWT (Haar, db2 and FK4) Respectively.

Abstract

This paper considers the contribution of hot electrons to the resistive switching of sputter-deposited silicon oxide films based on experiments together with semi-2D Monte Carlo simulations. Using various device stack structures, this paper examines the impact of hot-electron injection on resistive switching, where conduction-band offset and fermi-level difference are utilized. Support is found for the predictions that hot-electron injection reduces the switching voltage and this should reduce the dissipation energy of switching. It is predicted that two-layer metal stacks can significantly reduce the number of oxygen vacancies in the sputter-deposited silicon oxide film after the reset process. It is also demonstrated that, in unipolar switching, the number of E’ or E” centers of the sputter-deposited silicon oxide film is relatively large.

Abstract

Semantic similarity is the process of identifying relevant data semantically. The traditional way of identifying document similarity is by using synonymous keywords and syntactician. In comparison, semantic similarity is to find similar data using meaning of words and semantics. Clustering is a concept of grouping objects that have the same features and properties as a cluster and separate from those objects that have different features and properties. In semantic document clustering, documents are clustered using semantic similarity techniques with similarity measurements. One of the common techniques to cluster documents is the density-based clustering algorithms using the density of data points as a main strategic to measure the similarity between them. In this paper, a state-of-the-art survey is presented to analyze the density-based algorithms for clustering documents. Furthermore, the similarity and evaluation measures are investigated with the selected algorithms to grasp the common ones. The delivered review revealed that the most used density-based algorithms in document clustering are DBSCAN and DPC. The most effective similarity measurement has been used with density-based algorithms, specifically DBSCAN and DPC, is Cosine similarity with F-measure for performance and accuracy evaluation.

Abstract

This paper deal with the numerical method, based on the operational matrices of the Haar wavelet orthonormal functions approach to approximate solutions to a class of coupled systems of time-fractional order partial differential equations (FPDEs.). By introducing the fractional derivative of the Caputo sense, to avoid the tedious calculations and to promote the study of wavelets to beginners, we use the integration property of this method with the aid of the aforesaid orthogonal matrices which convert the coupled system under some consideration into an easily algebraic system of Lyapunov or Sylvester equation type. The advantage of the present method, including the simple computation, computer-oriented, which requires less space to store, time-efficient, and it can be applied for solving integer (fractional) order partial differential equations. Some specific and illustrating examples have been given; figures are used to show the efficiency, as well as the accuracy of the, achieved approximated results. All numerical calculations in this paper have been carried out with MATLAB.

Abstract

During numerous qualitative surveys, swish patterns and visual kinesthetic dissociation (V/KD) were employed to examine attitudes and past occurrences. Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) workshops in both hypnotic and non-hypnotic experimental sessions were held for forty days. Results demonstrated that negative sentiments and various emotional factors were significantly higher in 10-days’ workshop sessions as compared to 40 days’ sessions. Following the qualitative sentiments recollection, NLP workshops with various activities in the fear and stress indexing segment were increased in length. The NLP procedure was followed by the decreased negative emotional intensity in both groups; also, the results have been improved when using swish patterns and V/KD techniques. The performance analysis shows the results of improving emotional and sentimental factors in various NLP workshops. The workshops ranged in length from five to forty days. The specifications for workshops were selected based on the human mind's pre-determined conditions. The performance factors of two significant NLP techniques used in NLP workshops were compared and both techniques' performance factors were found to be adequate in terms of modifying behavior patterns. Using the confusion matrix, the overall accuracy percentage between V/KD and swish patterns is calculated, and an increase from 0.65 to 0.83 in the stressed parameters is shown.

Abstract

In this paper, a new technique to monitor and control bidirectional DC-DC converter was designed and implemented precisely. A prototype of a complete system is verified with efficient communication capabilities. This system is realized by integrating the internet of things (IoT) operating system and the bidirectional DC-DC converter. The IoT communication facilities further develop and extend the platform for this system. The DC-DC converter with the soft switching technique will then convert the battery voltage to a high voltage of 380V inverter bus in emergencies via boost converter mode. High-frequency toroidal transformer has been used for power level shifting and isolation between the primary and secondary sides of the transformer. The closed-loop control scheme is implemented in software by using a high-performance 32-bit STM32 micro controller. IoT technique is used to find current, voltage and perform the communication smoothly through Wi-Fi sensors to complete the design of the system. The results of the proposed system prove the effectiveness of the proposed system with high-performance specifications.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new approach to solve the document-clustering using the K-Means algorithm. The latter is sensitive to the random selection of the k cluster centroids in the initialization phase. To evaluate the quality of K-Means clustering we propose to model the text document clustering problem as the max stable set problem (MSSP) and use continuous Hopfield network to solve the MSSP problem to have initial centroids. The idea is inspired by the fact that MSSP and clustering share the same principle, MSSP consists to find the largest set of nodes completely disconnected in a graph, and in clustering, all objects are divided into disjoint clusters. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed K-Means improved by MSSP (KM_MSSP) is efficient of large data sets, is much optimized in terms of time, and provides better quality of clustering than other methods.
