Abstract

Introduction: The study aims to explore how the cultural practice of breast care among breastfeeding mothers in the Sumba tribe, specifically in Kiritana Village, might impact the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding in the Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province, with a potential influence estimated at 62.17%.Methods: This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing a purposive sampling method. The participants consist of mothers who are within the first six months postpartum and engage in breast care practices. Following the framework proposed by Miles and Huberman, the data analysis process involves data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions or verifying the data through researcher involvement in the interpretation process to elucidate the significance of the presented data. Results: There are two themes emerged: (1) Culture-based breast care of the Sumba Tribe in Kiritana Village is still being carried out from generation to generation, and (2) Cultural-based breast care practices in the Sumba Tribe, Kiritana Village which is still carried out by breastfeeding mothers are massaged using breastmilk, massaged using coconut oil, herbs which derived from plants and consuming fried corn and fried peanuts. Conclusions: Sumbanese people in Kiritana Village believe that cultural-based breast care can facilitate breast milk and can cure several diseases of the breast, such as sore nipples and swollen, stiff, and hard breasts. It is recommended that health service workers carry out a culture-based approach strategy to the problem of breastfeeding mothers in the Sumba Tribe. Further research on the effects of traditional treatments during postpartum, especially for breast care, is recommended. Keywords: breast care; cultural practice; exclusive breastfeeding

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting, a form of chronic malnutrition, continues to increase annually in Indonesia, making it the third country with the highest prevalence of stunting in Southeast Asia. This study aimed to analyze what factors were most dominant that influenced family behavior toward stunting prevention in the Bangkalan Region. Methods: This research follows an analytical observational approach with a cross-sectional design. The study involved a sample size of 110 participants. Inclusion criteria for this study encompassed children aged 0-24 months residing with their mothers, mothers in good physical and mental health, and both children and mothers living in the Bangkalan district. The sampling technique involved multistage random sampling, followed by stratified sampling using a proportionate stratified random sampling method. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire. Seven questionnaires are used: attitude, personal agency, knowledge, intention, behavior and environmental barrier. The distribution of questionnaires involved direct engagement with several field officers. The analysis technique employed in this study is partial least squares (PLS) using structural equation modeling (SEM).Results: We found three factors significantly influencing mothers' behavior in stunting prevention among habits (P-value 0.031; T 2.221), intentions and knowledge of mothers in stunting prevention (P-value <0.001; T 5.744). The extent of the mother's intention to prevent stunting was influenced directly by the mother's agency (P-value 0.044; T 2.399) and attitude regarding stunting (P-value <0.001; T 7.920).Conlusions: Intention is a direct influence driving factor for individuals to shape behavior, which is influenced by personal attitudes and beliefs. Effective stunting prevention strategy in children under two years is through the development of a stunting prevention behavior model for caregivers through improvements in attitudes, beliefs, norms, personal agencies, knowledge and skills to perform the behavior, intentions, and habits as a family empowerment effort to prevent stunting. Keywords: intentions; parenting; prevention; stunting

Abstract

Introduction: Excessive Gestational Weight Gain (GWG) is associated with various complications during pregnancy and childbirth. In contrast, digital interventions like telehealth offer cost-effective solutions with broader accessibility. Therefore, our outcomes are to analyze the effectiveness of telehealth interventions for healthy GWG among overweight and obese pregnant women and to know which features are needed in telehealth for healthier GWG.Methods: We undertook a systematic review to address the objectives mentioned above. Initially, we employed the keywords telehealth, pregnant women, and overweight, which were subsequently refined using Medical Subject Headings provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information. To identify relevant articles, we searched six databases”Scopus, SAGE Journals, Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest. Results: We included 15 articles in this review according to the criteria. Eleven papers show a positive effect of telehealth in promoting healthy GWG. Telehealth encompasses various functionalities, such as providing information, push notifications, self-monitoring, and feedback features related to gestational weight gain (GWG), maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in physical activity, receiving reminders, managing stress, and setting goals. On the other hand, four papers show no significant difference between telehealth and regular interventions. Conclusions: Telehealth is alternatively effective to use as an additional intervention to promote healthier GWG in overweight pregnant women. Keywords: gestational weight gain; overweight; pregnant women; telemedicine

Abstract

Introduction: Based on data from the 2021 Indonesian Nutritional Status Study (SSGI), the prevalence of stunting in Gresik Regency is 23%, close to the prevalence rate of stunting in East Java of 23.5%. Despite the decline, stunting is still a challenge for the government. The Gresik Regency government is focusing on ten sub-districts as priority focus locations for reducing stunting, one of which is the Kebomas Sub-District. Therefore, the researchers analyzed the implementation of Remaja Sehat Cegah Stunting/Healthy Youth Posyandu Prevent Stunting (RS Centing) program, which focuses on educating youth about stunting. Methods: Pre-experimental research, with a population of 75 teenagers, was selected based on inclusion: (1) age criteria (17-21 years old), (2) respondents who actively participate in youth activities, and (3) live in areas focused on stunting. The sampling technique used simple random sampling, which obtained 64 respondents. The dependent variable is adolescents' level of knowledge and attitudes toward stunting”data analysis using simple linear regression analysis test. The research (1) gives a pre-test about knowledge and behavior for preventing stunting, (2) the "RS Centing” program provides assistance and outreach to young people in stunting focus locations. Then, (3) after assisting for three months, the team gave a post-test knowledge and behavior about stunting. The instruments used to conduct the research were questionnaires, pre and post-respondent knowledge, and behavior towards stunting, which would be given to respondents by Google link. Results: There was an influence of the RS Centing program on increasing knowledge (P-value <0.01) and attitudes (P-value <0.01) of adolescents in preventing stunting in Kebomas District, Gresik. Conclusion: The knowledge factor has the greatest influence (P-value 0.041, and relative value 0.000-0.376). Through this research, the Gresik Regency Government can optimize the RS Centing Program to reduce stunting in the Gresik Regency and achieve a stunting prevalence target of 10% in 2024. Abstract

Introduction: The widespread availability of the internet, coupled with adolescents' natural curiosity about sexuality, has created avenues for accessing pornographic websites. However, this curiosity, when not tempered with self-restraint, can lead adolescents into the habit of watching pornographic films. One significant consequence of engaging in this behavior is its potential to influence pre-marital sexual activity among adolescents. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between attitudes toward and the frequency of watching pornographic movies and pre-marital sexual behavior among adolescents in Sidoarjo. Methods: The study employed a descriptive analytics approach with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 138 adolescents was selected using probability sampling, specifically the cluster simple random sampling method. Two research instruments were utilized: the Cyber Pornography Use Inventory (CPUI) for gathering data on porn-watching activity and the Adolescent Sexual Activity Index (ASAI) for collecting information on sexual behavior. The data were then analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation method. Results: The findings indicated that the majority of students in Sidoarjo exhibited a non-supportive attitude category (48.6%, n= 67), with low engagement in watching porn movies (44.2%, n= 61), and most teenagers demonstrated low/less risky sexual behavior (63%, n= 87). Moreover, the results revealed significant relationships between attitudes and sexual behavior (P-value <0.001) as well as between watching porn and sexual behavior (P-value <0.001).Conclusions: This research suggests the importance of parental and teacher involvement in guiding and supervising adolescents to prevent engagement in risky behaviors such as watching pornography and engaging in pre-marital sexual activity. By actively monitoring their children and providing guidance, parents and teachers can play a crucial role in minimizing such behaviors and promoting adolescent reproductive health through counseling and education.
