Abstract

A suitable mathematical formulation is used to study the thermal post buckling problem of orthotropic circular plates is presented herein. The total energy equation is reduced by assuming algebraic function for lateral displacement w. The radial tension per unit length is calculated by substituting the value of orthotropic parameter under simply supported and clamped boundary conditions. The thermal post buckling load carrying capacity of the plate is evaluated using integrated average for various values of orthotropic parameter ?, and the numerical results obtained from the present investigation are compared with the results obtained from the known literatures. The results obtained for both cases are concurs well with reference values and the numerical results using integrated average shows more accurate values for the post buckling load.

Abstract

Stenosis is a blockage caused by atherosclerosis literally lead to serious circulatory complaints, by narrowing the vessel wall and causing an alternation in the flow structure which consequently reduced the fluid flow passing to the other organs and tissues. This study, the geometry of the bifurcated is considered with presence of stenosis at mother and daughter artery. The blood vessel is modelled as a two-dimensional (2D) rigid wall since the wall of a disease artery is reported to be less compliant. The blood will be assumed as incompressible, laminar, steady and characterized as the generalized power-law model. Simulation result is obtained by using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.2, a software based on the FEM to solve the problem. Results concerning the effect of different blood rheology and severity of stenosis on the streamlines pattern are discussed.

Abstract

The study aims at describing the comparison between the Problem-Posing Approach and the Investigation Approach in terms of effectiveness from the perspective of Mathematical Problem-Solving Skills, mathematical motivation and Mathematical Learning Achievements. The nature of the study is a quasi-experimental research. During the conduct of the study, the overall number of populations was 206 students from Grade VII of the State 2 Junior High School Gamping. The samples within the study were selected randomly from the population namely 32 students from Grade VII A and 34 students from Grade VII B. Then, the instrument that had been administered within the conduct of the study was the Mathematical Problem-Solving Skills Test, the Mathematical Learning Achievement Test and the Mathematical Learning Motivation Questionnaire. After the data had been gathered, the overall data were analysed by using the one-sample t-test, the T2 Hotteling?s Test and the independent sample t-test. The results of the study show that the learning process by means of Investigation Approach has been more effective in comparison to Problem-Posing Approach from the perspective of Mathematical Problem-Solving Skills and Mathematical Learning Achievement but, on the other hand, the results of the study also show that the learning process by means of Problem-Posing Approach has been more effective in comparison to Investigation Approach from the perspective of Mathematical Learning Motivation for the Grade VII students of the State 2 Junior High School Gamping.

Abstract

The objective of the study is to discover: (1) types of errors that the students have committed; (2) the obstacles that the students have dealt with; and (3) the size of the errors that the students have committed. The nature of the study is qualitative and quantitative research. Then, within the conduct of the study, the research site was the Angkasa Adisucipto Junior High School located in Janti Street, Adisucipto Air Base, Caturtunggal, Depok, Yogyakarta. The subjects within the study were the students from Grade IX A, Grade IX B and Grade IX C from the Angkasa Adiscucipto Junior High School Yogyakarta. The data were gathered by using test administration, questionnaire distribution and documentation study. Then, the instruments that had been implemented within the conduct of the study were the essay test instrument and the questionnaire. The results of the study show that the errors that the Grade IX students from Angkasa Adisucipto Junior High School in completing the materials of Quadratic Equation from the perspective of conceptual understanding are namely: (1) the students have not correctly formulated the mathematical concepts by using the appropriate symbol or language; (2) the students have committed errors in composing the theorem or formula (whereas it has not been demand-ed in the test items); (3) the students have committed errors in composing the ABC formula when they are completing the test items; and (4) the students have not composed the theorem or the formula for completing the test items. Then, the five biggest obstacles in learning the materials of Quadratic Equation are namely: (1) classroom (64.06%); (2) students? capacity (46.25%); (3) material delivery (30.07%); (4) students? attitude and interest toward the materials of Quadratic Equation (29.24%); and (5) students? motivation (25.78%).

Abstract

The case of unsteady two-dimensional laminar free convection flow over a vertical plate by an incompressible viscous fluid is analysed in the presence of uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the flow. The governing equations in a vector form are transformed into non-dimensional form. Then, the dimensionless equations are solved using automated solution technique which is FEniCS. The effects of magnetic parameter on the velocity and temperature profiles are obtained and discussed in this paper.
