The Mutawatir: Jurnal Keilmuan Tafsir Hadith is published twice a year by the Department of Al-Quran and Hadith, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, Sunan Ampel State Islamic University (UIN) Surabaya Indonesia. The journal aims at publishing an original academic research on the main topic of the Quran and Hadith studies. The subject covers all related issues on the Quran and Hadith such as the classical inquiry of the Quran, tafsir and Hadith, methodological examination of the classical and contemporary scholars to the Quran and Hadith, contemporary approaches to the Quran and Hadith, the oriental studies of the Quran and Hadith, the living phenomena which is so called as living Quran and Hadith, and all related issues to the interdisciplinary studies of the Quran and Hadith.

Abstract

This article wants to present a comprehensive discussion of related interventions arabic culture elements which to some extent has influenced the style of thinking and normal life of the Prophet in the hadith leaders expressed in the State of Quraysh. This is given in addition to as an Apostle, Muhammad also serves as head of state, warlords, judges, community leaders, husband and personal. As an Arab man who lives in the community and the arabic culture, the environment and the interaction with the surrounding culture has its own influence on the habits and behavior. Consequently, what comes from the Prophet Muhammad must exist in between which is the culture of Arab societies at the time. Hadith state leaders of Quraysh, for example, is a statement of the Prophet Muhammad based on considerations of arabic culture at that time. Socio-historical, Quraysh is a decent clan inherited the throne of leadership, due to the advantages that are not found in other ethnic groups at the time. Thus, the actual terms of the Quraysh merely symbolic terms.

Abstract

This article discusses the literature interpretation production Bisri Musthofa (1915-1977 AD), entitled al-Ibrîz li Ma‘rifat Tafsîr al-Qur’ân al-‘Azîz. As a work of interpretation, al-Ibrîz packaged in the form of prose and using low Javanese language as the language of his introduction. At the theoretical level, low Javanese language choice is an option that does not mess around, because through that way Bisri Musthofa should risking authority in expressing the totality of his work. However, the problem of whether the arrangement and selection of diction to bang and play with the reader’s emotions, al-Ibrîz have really paid attention to the culture and cosmology Java adequately? Whether that interpretation can also be “in addition to” scientific work as well as the interpretation of literary works that contain Java defense of the existence of all Javanese? In addition, al-Ibrîz that in fact the result of a thought Bisri when interacting with the text of the Koran can not be separated from the goals, interests, experiences and socio-political circumstances surrounding them, so it is legitimate to question whether al-Ibrîz relevant to the demands of his time or not? In this context, this article was written.

Abstract

For several decades, the role of Muslim female in political arena is limited and still dominated by Muslim male figures. Religious doctrines seem to take part in constructing women into social life. Women are still perceived as secondary person before men, having much emotional feelings, and incapable to handle such social problems. It has been much demonstrated by traditional scholars that the providence of men is being a leader, having much power, and is rightly superior to women. In this case, contemporary feminist Muslim such like Fatima Mernissi, Riffat Hassan, Asghar Ali Engineer, and Fazlur Rahman has contended this notion. They argue that there was possibly different impression on the interpretation of Qur’an that affects Qura’nic worldview towards the existence of women. According to them, Qur’an was precisely revealed to liberate women from social subjection. This article scrutinizes methodological framework in establishing a new light of understanding Qur’anic verse on women, especially on the issues on the origins of women creature, leadership, attestation and the right for inheritance.

Abstract

Muhammad b. ‘Alî Muhammad b. ‘Abd Allâh al-Shawkânî al-San‘ânî. He was born in the Hijrah in Shawkân village, Yemen on Monday 28 Dhû al-Qa‘dah 1172 H and died on Tuesday, 27 Jumâd al-Akhîr 1250 H at the age about 78 years. Al-Shawkânî grew up in the San‘a city, it is the capital of the republic of Yemen now. He study first time about religion from his father, then from renowed scholars in San‘a and its surrounding, he was known as a scolar who mastered the various branches of religious sciences. Such as tafsîr, h}adîth, fiqh, us}ûl al-fiqh, history, science of kalâm, philosophy, balâghah, mant}iq etc. the main issue in this article is how political thought in the book of tafsir Fath al-Qadîr is the work of Shawkânî. At the end of article, the authors found that the intended political thinking in the study of Fath al-Qadîr is about constitutional ideas. These ideas about the constitution is limited to the concept of leadership and deliberation, the concept of the right of citizen to obtain justice, and the concept pf the right of citizens to live association and assembly

Abstract

The studies of hadith and scientific reseaches in Indonesia found the momentum around the end of the 20th century. One of the figure whose enough concern on this field is Hasbie Ash-Shiddieqy. Some of Hasbie’s thoughts in the hadith field which is become point of view in this article include: First, his view on the substance of the hadith and Sunnah and its periodization. Secondly, the criteria of hadith’s validity. Third, the research and the maintenance of hadîth. Fourth, the methodology of understanding the hadith (sharh al-hadîth). Hasbi thought that the hadith are all events that leaning to the Prophet Muh}ammad, although it happened only once in the lifetime of the Prophet, and although only narrated by a narrator. Then Sunnah is the actions of the Prophet Muh}ammad that mutawâtir. Validity of hadith in Hasbi’s point of view must include of two criteria, that is the validity (sahîh) of sanad and matn of hadith. Hasbi seems to emphasize a study of the hadiths that the quality is not clearly by applying the criteria of validity of the hadith and the theory of nâsikh wa mansûkh

Abstract

Muh}ammad ‘Abduh had ground the orientation of the Koran in the line of Muslim life. In other words, interpretations are always aiming to make the Koran as well as applying the guidance in public life as a solution to the problem of street life. Therefore, associated with verses mubham and mutashâbih, ‘Abduh closer to the bow of the salaf scholars who prefer silence and surrender fully to God’s intention (tafwîd). However, on several occasions, he sometimes shifts from the bow, for example, when in contact with mutashâbih verses, verses related to the supernatural, and the stories in the Koran as may be necessary to explain in detail. In this position, he sometimes refers to methods tamthîl as tafwîd form or otherwise as a form of ta’wîl. This article will explore the darb al-amthâl in view of ‘Abduh as one method of interpreting the Koran from his works that contain related ideas and his interpretation of the Koran and the consideration of the methods of darb al-amthâl

Abstract

Language and script in the writing of Qura’nic tafsir in Indonesia is not only used for communication tools, but it is also being a part of social and cultural cognition. This article investigates the relational and diverse interest in the practical life of Qur’anic interpretation. The local practice of Javanese script (pegon) for example, is commonly used by the community of pesantren and it is widely read by its students (santri). The practice of Cacarakan is also vastly used in the local context that is relevant to the social tradition of palace (keraton) community. On the other hand, the usage of Pegon, Bugis and Cacarakan in the writing of Qur’anic interpretation has experienced various difficulties, primarily in the issue of transforming Arabic vocabularies that however the scriptural features is not really applicable to the local features of Nusantara scripts.

Abstract

Abû Zayd was born on july 1, 1943 in a village called Tanta, the provincial capital of al-Gharbîyah, Egypt. Abû Zayd is very concerned with the study of the Koran. Abstract

This paper attempts to offer a different understanding of the hadith misogynic. Some hadiths are commonly used as the theology reason by the elite of men to smooth out their importance will be examined again, at this time it uses the reading of Fatima Mernissi. Fatima Mernissi is a feminist and a sociologist at the same time. Her background will give a deep impact in her interpretation. She reads it by using a historical and methodological approach. Both of it also become a Mernissi’s hermeneutic. For methodological approach, Mernissi based on ‘Ulûm al-Hadîth that are reliable according to her, this is done when deciding on acceptance or rejection an hadith. For the understanding of hadith, Mernissi applies the historical and sosilogical approach. The purposes of this article are to know and also understand Mernissi’s hermeneutic hadith by reread some hadiths misogynic. Based on her interpretation in hadith misogynic, thispaper’s findingsindicate that hadith misogynic is not really hate women.

Abstract

As a religious book, the Koran has long interacted with his people, even since he was there. The forms of interaction are seen in the tradition of making the Koran as an object of memorization (tahfîdh), writing (kitâbah), and interpretation studies (tafsîr). For the case in Indonesia, there Haflah Tilâwat al-Qur’ân in the tradition of people in Bima. A Haflah Tilâwat al-Qur’ân is an event in which the reciters gather to recite verses of the Koran by using the art of reading al-Qur’an. Implementation is left to the community which is then coupled with the traditions of the people who will be in the title, especially in the tradition of weddings and circumcisions. The interesting phenomenon is that after a reciter finished reciting verses of the Koran are the meaning and explanation of the content of the verse being read by a cleric. This article will explore the phenomenon of living Koran in the tradition of the Bima, how Haflah Tilâwat al-Qur’ân is held in the tradition of Bima’s community and society, and how Haflah Tilâwat al-Qur’ân is purported?
