Abstract

Community structure of macrozoobentos in estuary of Banyuasin important as based of knowledge about bioindicator environtment. The aim of this research was to examine the community structure of macrozoobenthos in estuaries Banyuasin river of South Sumatra. This research conducted by field survey method. Field sampling was selected by purposive random sampling. Macrozoobenthos samples were taken using ekman grab. Further silt that is picked up from the tool was filtered using a filter to separate from the mud. Samples was inserted into the bottle sampel and then identifyed in the laboratory. Results showed that the highest density of macrozoobenthos occured in Oktober and the lowest in April. Diversity of macrozoobenthos based on index Shannon-Wiener average of all station showed a value of 1< H’ < 3. There were significant differences (P<0,05) at each sampling month and the highest value found in June amounting to 1,82. The value of uniformity during the research as seen from the difference in observation time was low. For environtmental quality criteria based on the diversity index Shannon-Wiener showed that the value of IML is 1,62 which means that in the area in the station that is contaminated with medium level.

Abstract

The community of polychaeta at three seagrass beds (Thalassia hemprichii, Thalassia hemprichii-Cymodocea rotundata-Enhalus acoroides, Enhalus acoroides) in Pari Island of Jakarta was studied on June 2010. Three core samples (0.02 m2) were randomly collected from three seagrass beds. A total of 27 species belonging to 14 families was found, and the most of dominant species was Mediomastus californiensis (21–50% of the total individuals). T. hemprichii was the highest of value of H’ and J’ (2.301 and 0.926 respectively), while E. acoroides was the highest of value of D (0.282), so the community of polychaeta at T. hemprichii was more stable than other seagrass beds.

Abstract

Some rice cultivation systems with integrated nutrient and environmental friendly management have been developed i.e. System of Rice Intensification (SRI) and Integrated Plant Management (IPM). Utilization of bio, organic, and inorganic fertilizer which give more advantages for productivity of lowland need be assessed on various agricultural lands with various rice cultivation systems. Utilization of bio-fertilizer accompanied by addition of compost 2.5 t/ha and inorganic fertilizer ½ (NPK)-recommendation are better to rice growth and yield than addition of compost 5 ton/ha on PTT system and fertilization with NPK-recommendation on farmer customs system. Effect of utilization of bio-fertilizer accompanied by addition of compost 2.5 t/ha and inorganic fertilizer ½ (NPK)-recommendation on farmer customs system, is better in the biological soil characteristics compared to the utilization of compost 5 t/ha or NPK fertilizer recommendation.

Abstract

Antioxidative activities of Eugenia polyantha Wight bark extracts grown in Indonesia were evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl–1-picrylhydrazyl radical-scavenging, β-carotene bleaching assay, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) assay. The extracts also showed protection towards lipid peroxidation on cooked (68%) and raw meat (56%). The methanol-water extract showed the highest level of free radical-scavenging activity ((ED50) = 0.18 mg/ml) and protection from β-carotene bleaching (85.7% at 100 μg/ml). The extracts showed the highest total phenolic content (856 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g and 161 mg catechin equivalent (CE)/g) and total antioxidative capacity (449 mg ascorbic acid equivalent (AAE)/g). A relationship between total antioxidative capacity and total phenolic content was recognized from E. polyantha bark extracts. Furthermore E. polyantha essential oil demonstrated inhibition growth activity of several agricultural pathogenic fungus i.e., Pleurotus ostreatus (46.2%), Fusarium oxysporum (38.1%), and Coreynespora cassicola (32.2%).

Abstract

The marine sponge of Tetilla sp. collected near Gunung Kidul coast was studied for isolation of associated bacterial and its antibacterial activity. Sixteen bacterial strains were isolated from sponge Tetilla sp., four isolates among it showed ability to produce antibacterial metabolite. Cell extract of isolates were tested for antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus using disc diffusion agar method. Cells extract of four selected isolate from late exponential phase and stationary phase broth culture showed antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Thin layer chromatography analysis detected alkaloid and terpenoid in cell extract from stationary phase of isolates culture and none of it was detected in cell extract from late exponential phase of isolates culture.

Abstract

Polyurethane microcapsule had been made as self healing coating material. Polyurethane microcapsule synthesis had been conducted by interfacial polymerization both spontaneous polymerization and prepolymer polyurethane polymerization using glycerol as renewable palm oil polyol. Based on FTIR-Spectra showed the functional group of polyurethane formed both spontaneous and prepolymer polyurethane polymerization. Polyurethane microcapsule formed was in spherical form. The particle size prepared by spontaneous polimerization was smaller than particle prepared by prepolymer polymerization at range 20,51±12,7 and 139,2±72,3 μm respectively.
