Abstract

The persistence of manual weighing practices in coal transportation has led to significant revenue losses at PT Borneo Indobara, with a recorded discrepancy of -1.218% in coal tonnage reconciliation during Q4 2023—exceeding the company’s ±0.5% threshold. This research aims to identify the root cause of this issue, evaluate alternative solutions, and propose a strategic implementation plan to eliminate manual weighing. Employing the Current Reality Tree (CRT) method, the study found that the core issue was the absence of prior investigation into weighing alternatives. Using both primary (interviews, FGDs, observations) and secondary data (company reports, standards), three alternatives—Weighbridge, Low-Speed Weigh-in-Motion (LS-WIM), and High-Speed Weigh-in-Motion (HS-WIM)—were assessed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) based on accuracy, productivity, and investment cost. The LS-WIM alternative emerged as the most optimal, scoring 0.37, due to its high productivity and moderate cost, despite slightly lower accuracy. Implementation is planned through a structured PDCA-based approach, covering proposal development, tendering, construction, and commissioning. With LS-WIM's expected accuracy of ±2%, the study projects a reversal of revenue loss into a gain of approximately USD 314,963.27, illustrating the business value of replacing manual weighing. This research contributes a novel integration of CRT and AHP methodologies in the coal logistics context and provides an actionable, stakeholder-informed roadmap for technology implementation. Future studies are encouraged to explore long-term performance, hybrid system integration, and cross-industry applicability of weigh-in-motion technologies.

Abstract

The increasing production target of PT Borneo Indobara (PT BIB) to 54 million tons by 2026 necessitates strategic improvements in workforce competency through effective training programs. However, the current implementation of Training Needs Analysis (TNA) at PT BIB reveals significant gaps, including poor regulatory structure, minimal supervisor involvement, and inadequate post-training evaluation, resulting in misaligned training delivery. This research aims to analyze the TNA process, evaluate training effectiveness, identify influencing factors, and develop a structured regulatory strategy using the RACI Matrix approach. Employing a mixed-methods design, the study integrates qualitative methods (interviews and observations) with quantitative analysis (descriptive statistics, mean ranking, and Pearson correlation) involving 150 respondents. The results demonstrate that the absence of formal TNA regulations and limited stakeholder engagement undermine the alignment between training programs and operational realities. The implementation of the RACI Matrix significantly clarifies roles and responsibilities across departments, particularly enhancing the involvement of supervisors, and is associated with a marked improvement in training effectiveness (p < 0.001). The study concludes that adopting RACI-based TNA regulations, coupled with performance-focused evaluation systems and periodic monitoring, can significantly enhance employee competence and contribute to the achievement of corporate goals. This research offers a novel, practical framework for improving training governance and invites further longitudinal exploration on the sustainability and broader applicability of the proposed model.

Abstract

Tomato paste quality hinges on processing methods, with hot break (95°C) and cold break (65°C) treatments critically impacting rheology and shelf life. Prior studies lack comprehensive analysis of prolonged heating durations and storage effects on viscosity stability. This study examines how hot/cold break treatments influence tomato paste rheology, enzyme activity (PME, PG), and storage stability to identify optimal processing parameters. Tomatoes were heated at 65°C (cold break) or 95°C (hot break) for 5–15 minutes, processed into paste, and stored for 5 weeks. Rheological properties (flow index *n*, consistency coefficient *k*) were measured weekly using a viscometer (30–60°C), while PME/PG activities were assayed titrimetrically and via DNS. Hot break at 45°C with 10-minute heating yielded the highest viscosity stability (*n* = 0.3685, *k* = 1.478) and extended shelf life by reducing microbes. PG enzymes were more heat-resistant than PME, with cold break showing higher residual activity (27.72% PME, 35% PG after 5 weeks). Storage revealed pseudoplastic degradation, with 60°C treatments exhibiting drastic *k*-value declines (~50%). The 10-minute hot break at 45°C is recommended for industrial tomato paste production to balance viscosity and shelf life. Future research should explore hybrid thermal treatments to enhance nutritional retention, building on findings by Wang et al. (2023).

Abstract

The achievement of production targets is a key goal for every company. To achieve these targets, it is crucial to enhance efficiency and minimize waste, such as defective products, unnecessary movements, overproduction, and excessive production time. This study aims to identify the types and amounts of waste, analyze the most dominant waste, and compare waste across three similar companies. The identification of waste was conducted using the WAM method across the three companies, revealing five major waste types with the highest percentages: Defect waste (23.489%, 21.144%, and 20.949%), Inventory waste (20.489%, 15.616%, and 18.694%), Overproduction waste (15.749%, 15.480%, and 15.391%), Waiting waste (9.382%, 12.651%, and 13.209%), and Motion waste (13.850%, 11.299%, and 10.739%). The analysis of waste causes used the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method, where the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN) of 576 was associated with defective products. Recommendations to address this issue include periodic maintenance of oven machines, structured production scheduling, provision of material handling tools, and improvements in the production layout. The most dominant waste across the three companies was Defect waste, with Sarigut Bakery having the highest percentage of waste (23.489%), followed by Nafisah Bakery (21.144%) and Istana Bakery (20.949%). This study highlights the importance of addressing waste to improve production efficiency and achieve production targets.

Abstract

Music, as a communicative medium, often conveys profound emotional and social messages. Feast’s "Nina" (2024), a viral Indonesian rock ballad, resonates widely but lacks scholarly analysis of its themes of protective instincts and familial sacrifice. This study deciphers the song’s layered meanings using Roland Barthes’ semiotics (denotation, connotation, myth) and explores how listeners interpret its lyrics. A qualitative-descriptive approach was employed, combining document analysis of lyrics, interviews with teenagers (aged 11–24), and triangulation to validate findings. The denotation depicts a father’s physical and emotional labor; the connotation reveals hope and sacrifice, while the myth aligns with Daedalus-Icarus, symbolizing guidance and life’s struggles. Audience interpretations varied, viewing the song as parental love, sibling bonds, or self-motivation. The study enriches semiotic applications in music analysis and highlights cultural subjectivity in decoding lyrics. Future research could compare cross-generational or cross-cultural interpretations of similar themes.

Abstract

PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), a coal mining company in Indonesia, faces escalating operational costs due to diesel fuel dependency and volatile prices, exacerbated by impending subsidy reductions. Transitioning to electric dump trucks (DT EVs) presents a potential solution, but requires rigorous feasibility analysis. This study evaluates DT EV adoption against hybrid and internal combustion alternatives, aiming to identify the most cost-efficient option while mitigating risks associated with diesel reliance. The SMART method was employed to weight operational, technical, and financial attributes, validated by SWOT analysis and Kepner-Tregoe risk assessment. Data included primary inputs from focus group discussions (FGDs) and field observations, alongside secondary financial and technical metrics. DT EVs emerged as the optimal choice, offering annual savings of IDR 480 billion versus an infrastructure investment of IDR 183 billion. Sensitivity analysis confirmed robustness, with SWOT highlighting alignment with sustainability goals. Risks, such as charging downtime, were mitigated via phased PDCA implementation. The study provides a replicable framework for mining firms transitioning to electrification, emphasizing cost efficiency and strategic risk management. Future research should explore environmental impacts and co-investment models to enhance ROI.
