Abstract

This research aims to describe the strategies used by Guidance and Counseling teachers in addressing time limitations in classroom entry at SMA Dharma Utama. Time limitations have become one of the significant challenges in implementing services, particularly in providing equitable attention to all students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects of the research are teachers and several students, as well as relevant subject teachers. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the Guidance and Counseling teachers apply various strategies such as utilizing digital technology (social media, class WhatsApp groups), flexible service implementation outside of class hours, and collaboration with homeroom teachers and subject teachers. In addition, guidance and counseling teachers also optimize group guidance and schedule classical counseling services. These strategies have proven to be quite effective in reaching students more broadly despite time constraints. This research recommends the need for stronger institutional support and the integration of guidance and counseling programs with other school activities to improve the effectiveness of guidance and counseling services in the future.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the impact of social media use on the sense of insecurity experienced by students in Medan City. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design, which prioritizes in-depth interviews with 15 informants consisting of 7 main informants, 5 key informants, and 3 supporting informants. Then the data in the field is carried out by data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques with data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. Data validity techniques with source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The results show that social media has a significant influence on students' mental health, especially in increasing feelings of insecurity related to social comparisons, body image, and often unrealistic standards of success. The majority of informants revealed that social media is a major source of harmful social comparisons, which in turn lowers confidence and increases anxiety. In addition, social media also affects the quality of students' social relationships, with interactions that are more superficial and less based on emotional honesty. This negative impact is further exacerbated by the stigma related to mental health issues, which makes students reluctant to talk about their insecurities. This study also found that support from campuses is needed to reduce the adverse impact of social media use on students' mental health. The resulting recommendations include the importance of providing counseling services, training on healthy social media use, and creating spaces for open discussions about mental health among students. These efforts are expected to help students manage the negative impact of social media and create a campus environment that is more supportive of their mental well-being.

Abstract

Mathematics learning that is disconnected from the cultural context of students often makes it difficult to understand concepts, especially at the elementary school level. Integration of local culture through an ethnomathematics approach is believed to be able to bridge this gap, but has not been widely studied from the perspective of students' cognitive and contextual difficulties. This study aims to identify and analyze the forms of difficulties faced by fifth grade students in solving mathematics problems based on the local Batak Angkola culture. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with 37 fifth grade students at SD Negeri 200117 Padangsidimpuan as subjects. Data collection techniques include observation, semi-structured interviews, and analysis of student work artifacts. Validation is carried out through triangulation of sources and time. Five main types of difficulties were found: understanding cultural context (27.03%), mathematical conceptual errors (21.62%), procedural errors (18.92%), calculation errors (16.22%), and not solving problems (16.22%). The conclusion of this study is that dominant difficulties arise due to the low connection between cultural representations in problems and students' mathematical understanding. A contextual learning strategy is needed that is designed with strengthening cultural literacy so that the integration of ethnomathematics becomes more effective.

Abstract

The problem in this research is the high learning saturation of students, which hinders their ability to receive and understand lessons, leads to sleeping in class, a lack of enthusiasm for learning, and truancy. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group guidance services using the stress inoculation training technique to reduce student learning saturation. This research employs a quantitative method with a one group pretest posttest design. The population in this study is 72 students from grade XII at state high school 10 Medan, with a sample of 10 students who have high learning saturation, selected using purposive sampling with a non-test instrument in the form of a questionnaire. The data analysis used is the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with results showing that the asymp. Sig (2-tailed) significance value is less than () 0.05, which is an asymp. Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.003. The results obtained from the Wilcoxon signed rank test indicate that group counseling services using stress inoculation training techniques are effective in reducing students' learning boredom. The novelty of the research conducted by the researcher lies in the use of stress inoculation training techniques in the context of group counseling for students. Although stress inoculation training has been used in various therapeutic settings, its application in group counseling in schools is still rarely studied, and the situation after the findings indicate that students' learning boredom has decreased compared to before.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of theoretical and practical learning during the first six months of the 6+6 program at Batam Tourism Polytechnic on the readiness of Culinary Management Study Program students to undergo internships in the industry. The approach used is a mixed method, with a quantitative method in the form of a pre-test and post-test using multiple-choice questions analyzed using N-Gain, as well as a closed questionnaire. The qualitative method was carried out through an open questionnaire that was analyzed thematically. The results showed that all students experienced a significant increase in scores, with an average N-Gain of 0.72 (high category), which indicates effective learning in forming technical competencies. In addition, students and lecturers assessed that the curriculum, facilities, and integration of theory-practice had run well. However, there are still gaps in soft skills aspects such as professional communication, stress management, and mental readiness. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen simulation-based learning and case studies so that graduates are not only technically ready, but also adaptive to industry challenges. This study contributes to the development of a vocational education curriculum based on work experience and becomes a reference for tourism education institutions in improving industrial internship programs.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence an individual's decision to convert to Islam in Indonesia. As the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia provides a unique context for understanding the dynamics of religious conversion, particularly to Islam. This research employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with converts (converts) from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. The findings reveal four main factors that influence the decision to embrace Islam: (1) spiritual factors and the search for life's meaning, (2) the influence of the social environment, such as friends, spouses, or family, (3) attraction to Islamic teachings perceived as logical and calming, and (4) personal experiences or life events that serve as spiritual turning points. This study contributes to the field of the sociology of religion and can serve as a reference for Islamic outreach organizations and religious institutions in designing humanistic and context-sensitive approaches to da'wah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the Disputing Irrational Beliefs technique on emotion regulation of fatherless children at the Aceh Sepakat Orphanage. The research employs a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design pre-experimental type. The subjects of this study were 18 fatherless children who experienced difficulties in emotion regulation, all of whom were used as samples through saturated sampling technique. The intervention was conducted in four sessions of group counseling services using the DIB technique, which consists of empirical, logical, and pragmatic discussing stages. Data collection was performed using an emotion regulation questionnaire adopted from previous research, with validity and reliability tested in earlier studies. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed Rank Test. The analysis results showed an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.001 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest scores. Thus, it can be concluded that group guidance services using the technique of disputing irrational beliefs are effective in improving the emotional regulation skills of fatherless children. This study provides important contributions as an educational-based psychological intervention to help children who experience the loss of a father figure in managing their emotions more adaptively.
