Abstract

The main factors that help determining students learn a foreign language is their strategies used in learning. This article aims to describe the most frequent learning strategies applied by students categorized as good learners that help them learn English effectively. This research is under qualitative case study which is conducted on three students from the first grade of Economic Education Study Program of IKIP PGRI Bojonegoro categorized as good learners of English. To get the detail of data in depth interviews, observation, questionnaires, and document analysis were used. The result of this study reveals that cognitive strategies and memory strategies were the strategies that often used by the student in learning English. These learning strategies employed the student gained best mark in each English test and could improve speaking skill. By applying those learning strategies, they always got good score in English lesson. Thus, in learning English as a foreign language, good language learning strategies are required. Abstract

The objectives of this study were to find out the students’ difficulties in understanding anaphora and cataphora and to find out the factors that influence students’ difficulties in understanding anaphora and cataphora on news items text. Technique for collecting the data was test and questionnaire. The method of this study was descriptive method. The writer took all of seventh semester students as a sample, and the total number of sample was 46 students. Based on the result of the data analysis, it was found that the students’ difficulties in understanding anaphora in divorcement was 18% and ambiguity was 82 %. The students difficulties in understanding cataphora in divorcemet was 25%, ambiguity was 44%, and Common searching backward than searching forward 31%. The writer also found that the most difficult problem that faced by the students was understanding cataphora, it refers to 58% of difficulties while anaphora 42%. The result of the questionnaire show that, there were two factors that most influences students in learning anaphora and catphora. They were 1) lecturers’ knowledge, enthusiasm and responsibility for learning and 2) effective interaction between the lecturer and the students. Abstract

This research mainly aims at determining the effectiveness of using flash animation as alternative media in teaching spoken recount. In order to achieve the objective of the study, I designed a classroom research which was done from 2th October till 13th October 2017. There were nine meetings in this study including pre test and post test. The population is the third semester of computer engineering of computer engineering students at Polytechnic of Harapan Bersama Tegal. The numbers of the population are 21 students that consist of 10 male and 11 female students. The instrument used to obtain the data were flash animations, lesson plan, test, and questionnaire. In doing the analysis of the data, I used criterion assessment written by Harris (1969:84) to score the students’ speaking performance. The result of the study showed that the speaking achievement of the third semester of computer engineering of computer engineering students at Polytechnic of Harapan Bersama Tegal improved. The mean of the student speaking score of the pre-test was 44.76, the cycle 1 test’s result was 66.10, and the mean of the cycle 2 test was 80.00. The improvement between pre-test and the cycle 1 test was 21.32 points, the different result of cycle 1 test and the cycle 2 test was 13.10 points and the different result between pre-test and cycle 2 post test was 35.24 points. In line with the result, flash animation seems to be alternative media to improve students’ ability in performing spoken recount. Key words: Flash animation, Recount text, Speaking

Abstract

The goal of this study is to improve the professionalism of teachers through clinical supervision with the approach of intervisitation techniques. Respondents taken in this action research were 40 teachers from SMA Negeri 1 Suranenggala. The research design is action research which is divided into two cycles, each cycle consists of four main activities, ie: planning, implementation, reflection and evaluation. This action research was done in the form of teaching simulation (peer teaching) by using Learning Lesson Plan (RPP) with approach of intervisitation technique. The results of the interviews obtained during the initial research meeting to determine the actions of the teachers are very motivated and enthusiastic to follow this activity. The average simulation result teaches the score of 66.68 (cycle 1) and 80,42 (cycle 2); 2) The participant attitude to the learning process simulation score 76, 69 (cycle 1) and 83.35 (cycle 2), 3) Average of Lesson Plan (RPP) score of 73.35 (cycle 1) and 82.37 (cycle 2) 4). Average teaching learning process values ??were 74.72 (cycles 1) and 84.97 (cycle 2). The conclusion of this research is academic supervision by way of clinical supervision through the approach of intervisitation technique can improve teachers’ pedagogic competence and develop their motivation to achieve in order to accelerate their teaching professionalism. The researcher recommends that similar school action research activities should be continued to be done to endorse the performance of teachers and schools achievements. Abstract

Initial experience can be built through reading activities. With this activity learners will have a stock of knowledge. One method that can be developed for effective reading is PQ4R Robert M. Gagne (in J.J.J Hasibuan and Moedjiono, 1986: 5). The aim of this study:1) To know the activity of students with cooperative learning method PQ4R 2) To know Student learning outcomes with cooperative learning method PQ4R. The subject of the recipients of the action is the students of class XII IPA-1 SMAN I Beber, with the number of students 40 people with details of 19 male students and 21 female students. Data obtained through observation, field notes and review the validity of data examined and analyzed descriptively qualitative and quantitative. The results of Class Action Research: can develop student creativity, understanding the effective learning through the use of PQ4R method can change the teacher's habits from researcher to facilitator and can improve student learning outcomes in a positive direction. The result of research by applying PQ4R method obtained average value of student achievement average value from Pre Cycles stage equal to (69,8) with perfection percentage (17,5%). the average cycle of test II (81.5) with the percentage of completeness (80%) and the final test result of the whole cycle (76.8) with the percentage of completeness (42.5%), sub sumative) on average (86.3) with a percentage of mastery of (100%). Non-test results showed a change in the attitude and behavior of students in the learning process. sThe activities and skills of student cooperation are getting better, along with the development of students' understanding ability on learning English. Thus it can be concluded that learning English through PQ4R method on Explanation Text material, can improve students’ achievement class XII IPA-1 SMA N I Beber Cirebon. Abstract

This study aimed at (1) to figure out the process of the students’ learning in reading comprehension on narratives through Cirebonese local content as based text material at the second grade students of SMPN 1 Jatibarang and (2) to find out the result of the student’s achievement in reading comprehension by using Cirebonese local content based text material in improving their comprehension on narratives at the second grade students of SMPN 1 Jatibarang. The research focused in the second grade I students of SMP N 1 Jatibarang Kabupaten Indramayu in academic year 2017/2018 which consist of 37 students.The study was classroom action research (CAR). The steps of the study are planing the action, implementing the action, observation, and refleting the action. The use of Cirebonese Local Content in reading comprehension can also improve the learning outcome. It can be seen from the results of the study showing an increase in students’ reading comprehension, which is shown by the students’ mean score of reading test results from Cycle I to pre-action activity increased from 64.9 into 76.5. The number of students who achieved a completeness study in the pre-action stage are 14 students. In Cycle I students' mean score increased to 76.5 with 22 students who passed the completeness score. Abstract

Reader’s Theater is one of the strategies that use as a motivational strategy to promoting fluency and comprehension growth for the students especially. Readers’ theater offers students an opportunity for interpretive oral reading as they use voices, facial expressions, and hand gestures to interpret characters in stories. Readers’ theater builds readers’ confidence, brings stories to life through performance, animates content areas, and improves reading ability, comprehension, and oral reading skills.The objective of this study was to find out whether it is significantly difference on students` reading fluency and comprehension between the students who are taught by using reader theater and those who are not. And to find out the factors that affect the students reading comprehension by using Readers Theater. In doing this research, the writer used experimental method; she used one of pre-experimental designs. The participant in this study is the fourth semester students of English Study Program Baturaja University was 20 students from A.II.1. Based on the finding from statistical analysis, it was found that the mean between posttest and pre-test pair was 19.150,. The value of tobtained was 17.665 which was higher than the ttable (from df (n - 1 = 19) was 17,665. And it could be concluded that the used of Readers’ Theater could improve students’ reading fluency and comprehension. It was seen from the differences between the students’ mean score in pre-test and post-test in which the post-test was higher than pre-test. In implementing the readers’ Theater most of the students along this activities all of the students could played their role, express and enjoy reading the script, and it also could contribute to improvement in students’ reading skill.
