Abstract

Horticultural commodities are strategic, have high economic value and are widely cultivated by farmers, one of which is red chili. Pests and plant diseases are the main problems faced by farmers, but their control is still not optimal. This problem is also faced by chili farmers in the Sari Mulyo Farmer's Group in Sukasari Village, Air Periukan Subdistrict, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province. The area of chili cultivated in this farmer group is about 6 ha every year. The problem faced in this growing season is the attack of pests that have not been able to be controlled by farmers. Therefore, this study aims to identify the types of pests that attack chili plants, the control carried out by farmers, and suggestions for their control. The research was conducted from December 2021 to January 2022 using field observations and interviews with chili farmers. Observations were made by observing pests on chili plants belonging to farmers with an area of 2.5 hectares. Observations were made on the affected plants by observing the types of pests and the symptoms of their attacks. Meanwhile, interviews were conducted to find out the control efforts that have been carried out by farmers. The identification results showed that there were two types of caterpillars that attacked chili plants, namely Spodoptera spp. and Helicoverpa spp. In addition, there is whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) and thrips (Thrips sp.) attacks. The control carried out by farmers has not been in accordance with recommendation on 6 precise control system in controlling chili pests.

Abstract

Evaluation of land suitability is very important to get agricultural crop commodities that can produce optimally. This study aims to evaluate and determine the actual and potential suitability classes as well as the efforts that can be made to improve the rice plant (Oryza sativa L.). The research was carried out from April to June 2021 at the location of 3⁰18'33.20” North Latitude and 99⁰23'2.26 East Longitude. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the suitability of the land and the improvement efforts that need to be made for the development of lowland rice plants. The analysis method uses matching data (matching field data). Determination of research location based on land map units (SPL) 1, SPL 2, SPL 3, SPL 4 and SPL 5, soil sampling was carried out at a depth of 0 to 30 cm, soil samples were analyzed in the laboratory. The results of the study found that the suitability class for lowland rice (Oryza sativa L.) was included in the appropriate class (S2) with the limiting factor for nutrient retention (nr), efforts were made to improve it by giving agricultural lime and fertilizing N, P and K so that the suitability class land can be upgraded to a potential land class (S1).

Abstract

The population of West Kalimantan continue to grow from year to year, led to increasing need for major food crops, especially rice. Farmers of West Kalimantan cultivate rice in various land agro-ecosystems, one of which is tidal swamp. Problems faced by farmers in rice cultivation on tidal swam include waterlogging, high soil acidity, poor nutrients, saltwater intrusion, and Fe toxicity. One of the efforts that can be done to increase rice productivity on tidal swamp is the introduction of new high-yielding varieties of rice with high yield potential. The purpose of this trial was to determine the performance of twelve new superior varieties rice with high yield potential on tidal swamp in West Kalimantan. The trial used a Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments were twelve new high-yielding varieties, namely Inpara 10, Inpari 32, Inpari 39, Inpari 45, Inpari 47, Inpari 48, Digdaya, Padjadjaran, Cakrabuana, Gemah, Mantap, and Cisaat, with five replications. The variables observed were plant height, number of productive tillers, panicle length, number of filled grain per panicle, percentage of filled grain per panicle, and productivity. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and further tested with the Tukey's Honest Significant Difference test. The results showed that the new high-yielding varieties with good performance and suitable for development on tidal swamp in West Kalimantan is Padjadjaran with productivity of 5.6 t/ha.

Abstract

Herbal drinks were proven can increase body immunity, sothose werewidely consumed during this pandemic. The objective of this study were to examine the organoleptic characteristic and shelf life of herbal drinks that consist of turmeric, curcuma, and calamondin citrus with the addition of rock sugar and palm sugar. The research was conducted in March s.d. April 2021 at the Postharvest Laboratory of BPTP Bengkulu that include formulation stages, Total Dissolved Solids test (% Brix), organoleptic testing with 25 respondents, and shelf life test. The research design used Factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with the addition of rock sugar and palm sugar at concentration of 5%, 10%, 15% and four replication. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively and statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the total dissolved solids increased with the addition of rock sugar and palm sugar concentrations. The treatment of adding rock sugar and palm sugar also had a significant effect on the taste of Kumansi herbal drinks but it was not significant to color, aroma, and viscosity at the 95% confidence level (P <0.05). In addition, Kumansi herbal drink with palm sugar has a longer shelf life than Kumansi with rock sugar.Herbal drink Kumansi was alternatif ready todrink herbal productfrom local raw material that was expected can increase those added value.
