Abstract

The process of evaporating red ginger extract using vacuum evaporator if the barometric condenser requires a large enough energy, to save energy, it is necessary to design a vacuum evaporator that can lower the boiling point of water and also energy-efficient by using vacuum pumps equipped condensate container. This type of vacuum pump uses a small energy when compared to using a steam jet ejector and is expected to use vacuum evaporator with this vacuum pump will be able to save electricity. Evaporator using vacuum pump with a level of vacuum reaches 0.5 atm or 360 mm Hg can lower the temperature of water evaporation to 800C so it is expected that the content in the red ginger is not much changed. The evaporation of red ginger extract to continue to become crystal used a rotary crystallizer equipped with a heater. Heating is kept at 100 ° C with a spin of 75 rpm and crystals are formed with a relatively quick 20 minutes time when compare with using stirred crystallization.

Abstract

Traditional salt contains NaCl between 80-92% and the other is impurity such as magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), potassium (K) and sulfate (SO4) ions., The NaCl content of salt is under government regulations, namely NaCl 94.7% for consumption salt and NaCl above 98% for industrial salt. Improved salt quality is done through increasing NaCl concentration or decreasing concentration of impurities. In this research, salt quality improvement was carried out by reducing the concentration of impurities through ion exchange methods. The ion exchange method is carried out by using 2 (two) types of resin namely cationic resin and anion. Cationic resin serves to exchange positively charged ions such as Mg2+, Ca2+ and K+ ion and anionic resin for negatively charged ions such as SO42-. The purpose of this study is to obtain Freundlich mathematical equations which can be used to calculate resin requirements. The study was conducted using a stirred tank with a variable amount of cationic resin from 25-150 grams per 1 liter of saturated salt solution and stirring time of 5 - 30 minutes. The saturated salt solution used contains 28.4% NaCl, 0.4% calcium and 0.09% magnesium. The results obtained were 36.99% NaCl, 0.025% Calcium and 0.044% Magnesium, 25 minutes contact time, 100 grams cation resin Freundlich equation obtained Calcium ion: ln (x / m) = 1.087 ln C - 4.2282, R2 = 0. 9544, Magnesium Ion: ln (x / m) = 5.6278

Abstract

Struvite was magnesium ammonium phosphate (MgNH4PO4.6H2O) in the form of white orthorhombic crystals. In aqueous solutions containing Mg2+, NH4+ and PO42- in the equivalent amount of 1: 1: 1 molar ratio, struvite crystallization can occur spontaneously with the influence concentration maleic acid, temperature and stirred speeds. Struvite was a mineral crystal commonly found in pipes, pumps and other industrial equipment. Deposition of struvite can interfere with equipment performance and cause increased maintenance costs. The experiment was carried out in a batch process using 500 ml of mechanical glass at 200, 300 and 400 rpm. Maleic acid concentration as an additive 0.0; 1.0; 10.0; and 20.0 ppm in solution at 30oC and 40oC. The more amount of additive maleic acid concentration added, the smaller the rate constants value. By decreasing the constant rate, the growth of struvite crystals also decreases so that the growth of struvite crystals becomes inhibited, but different for stirring, the higher the stirred speeds the rate constants will increase so that crystal growth also increases. The crystals obtained were characterized using SEM-EDX and XRPD Rietveld. Characterization results show that struvite was the main crystal. The morphology of crystals was prismatic. The research has been carried out to increase understanding of the extraction of phosphate from industrial wastewater through struvite crystallization and was useful in prospective wastewater treatment technologies for phosphat recovery and has the potential that can be used as fertilizer.

Abstract

Air pollution, such as CO2 gasoeus, is one of the environmental issue in the world, instead of other gasoeus pollutant. Microalgae has been known as an micoplant that could adsorb CO in order to reduce CO2 concentration. Microalgae fixation reachs 10-15 times more efficient compared with the other microplants. Microalgae growth depends on many factrs, such as light, temeprature, nutrition, pH, salinity, CO2, techinal aspect, bitic factors, etc. The objective of this research is to know the correlation of light exposure and nutrient composition to the performance of algae photobioreactor. The experimental was setup in photobioreactor of algae under light intensity 1000-2000 lux, light time exposure (hours): 6, 12, 18, 24, and nitrogen to phosphor nutrient composition 25:75; 75:25; 50:50; 100:0; 0:100. The results shown light exposure affect the production of chlorophyll-a, biomass productivity, and CO2 absorption, which was presented by p-value <0.005. The opposite result indicated that nutrient composition has insignificantly effect to the photobioreactor of algae performance with p-value > 0,005.

Abstract

Natural organic matter (NOM) is a complex organic compound that have been exist in water sources. The presence of NOM in water, especially the aromatic compound, could trigger the formation of disinfectant by-products (DBPs). Low molecular weight of NOM, one of the characterisctic of organic based on their molecular weight, is quite difficult to be removed in coagulation process. Preoxidation is one the effort to reduce carbon structure of organic matter and it has been known as pretreatment before coagulation process and advanced ones. The objective of this research is to track the changing of low molecular weight of NOM through preoxidation with pottasium permanganaate (KMnO4). Low molecular weight of NOM is presented by synapic acid. Detection of NOM properties was observed quantitatively by using total organic carbon (TOC) and qualitatively by using fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The results shown that KMnO4 could increase the concentration of TOC. According to FTIR analysis, the increasing of TOC concentration is proably due to the transformation of low organic matter into lower organic compound. FTIR showed the increasing of % transmitance of all functional groups of organic matter.

Abstract

Industrial wastewater treatment has been facing in high concentration of pollutant issues. One of the parameters issues is fat, oil, and grease (FOG) concentration. These parameters is needed to be considered since it will affect biological processes. Floatation is widely used processes in removing fat, oil, and grease in wastewater treatment processes. Recently, high concentration of oil, fat, and grease instead of suspended solid could decrease the performance of floatation. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance floatation performance. The objective of this research is to enhance floatation performance through coagulation by using various coagulant. Alum, FeCl3, and polyaluminium chloride (PAC) under various dosage was used as coagulant before flotation processes. The results shown that 20 mg/L PAC has high performance in removing FOG 230 mg/L into 20 mg/L or 91.3% FOG removal, and COD 1152 mg/L was treated into 230 mg/L or 80% COD removal.

Abstract

In this time, water and electricity are some of the most important components of human life in this 20th century, both in daily activities and in work. Water and electricity are also resources that should be massively exploited for the benefit to be felt by all elements of society. However, problems occur when geographical factors and infrastructure factors become an obstacle in supporting the availability of these resources. Geographical factors in the form of areas far from water sources, as well as the location of areas far from the reach of the government so that there is a gap in the development in the distribution of infrastructure within a region. This causes some elements of society, especially in backward villages, cannot benefit fully from these resources. To overcome the crisis, then we try to innovate by making a development and upgrade of a hydram pump by adding piezoelectric material as a source of electricity to make hydram more efficient than the latest version and have more value on the renewable energy side. Then, we will put the piezoelectric material into the series of hydram pump so that the rural community will be left behind will be able to feel the water and electricity resources of our innovations are simultaneously environmentally friendly.

Abstract

The fishing community is a society with low income socio-economic conditions, poverty of fishing communities originating from weak human potential and lack of environmental support in utilizing the natural potential and available resources. With the specific cultural characteristics of fishing communities, it does not always support increasing the potential of its citizens, sometimes even hampering the progress of the community itself. Fishermen communities pay less attention to their settlement environment, fishermen's neighborhood conditions look bad, it requires structuring fishermen's neighborhoods, especially the existence of open spaces. The aim of the study was to identify and analyze the cultural characteristics of the community in the fishing village, as a basis for efforts to arrange open space settlements. With compliance with open space, this can improve the quality of the environment and the standard of living of fisherman families on the coast. The research method used is a combination of qualitative and quantitative research with a phenomenological approach, a research area on the North Coast of East Java, by sampling the Brondong coastal fishing village in Lamongan. The research was conducted by identifying and comprehensive studies of cultural aspects of fishing communities in the coastal area. It is expected that the results of this study can provide a discourse on government policy regarding the implementation of open space procurement, taking into account the culture of fishing communities, so that it can produce a concept of open space that can significantly spur economic and social growth of fishing communities on the coast.

Abstract

Soil microorganisms are one of soil fertility indicator which they have a contribution on soil fertilization. They have an important role in nutrient cycling in the soil. In previous study, we found very low level of soil microorganisms activity in agricultural fields with long-term agrochemicals use. This study was aimed to know responses organisms (E. fetida) and R. erythropolis on soil microorganisms activity and soil properties in agrochemical contaminated soil. The soil sample was mixture by 1% organic material (w/w) as the base soil treatment, then soil was treated by E. fetida, R. erythropolis (ER) and without addition as the control (CER). Analysis of total bacterial number was analyzed by using Environmental DNA, analysis of chemical properties was consisted of total carbon (TC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorous (TP) and total potassium (TK). The results show that soil sample had a very low bacterial number (< 6.6 ×106 cells/g-soil). The soil was treated by earthworm (E. fetida) and R. erythropolis. After four weeks treatment, soil microorganisms number in control treatment increased up to 3.5 ×108 cells/g-soil, while treatment earthworm and R. erythropolis increased of soil microoganisms number up to 4.5 ×108 cells/g-soil. On the other hand, ER can increase of chemical properties such as, total carbon, total nitrogen, total potassium and total phosphorous. Analysis of PCR-DGGE showed that E. fetida and R. erythropolis can modify of soil microorganisms community. These results were found that earthworms and R.erythropolis treatment was rapidly enhancing not only soil microorganisms number and community but also on soil properties in agrochemical-contaminated soils.

Abstract

The potential of cassava tubers as a food ingredient that is widely available in Indonesia, especially the dawuhan village as a thematic KKN location that has abundant agricultural products and can be developed as processed products that have a higher economic value and is able to increase economic productivity for local villagers. Processed cassava products into cassava chips are products that have high market value, especially as products that can lift the image of the village to become a guided village with cassava chips that have a high flavor. The ability of rural communities to process products is still limited in terms of technology use and the ability to process these processed products to be more delicious, tasty and trendy. Utilization of production equipment such as chopper machines, slicing machines and a good packaging system can increase cassava chips processed products into products that have a high selling value and can be a source of income for the majority of rural communities, even later can encourage rural tourism of local specialties. The results of the application in the field can be produced that increasing production capacity and production quality can continue to be developed by utilizing these production tools and developing better packaging technology so that processed cassava chips products can compete with other products that have already developed.
