Abstract

The idea of Umer Chapra in building Muslim civilization was based on his research on the position of Muslims who from time to time more and more felt strange with the civilization and Islamic values itself, even the civilization was gradually increasingly eroded and marginalized by Western culture. He tried to restore the Muslim position which should be done as the Messenger of Allah had pointed out, and their positive role in building civilization. The Islamic civilization has the power that lies in the development of morals and material strength. For Chapra, the moral development without being integrated with the economic development cannot be realized. And at the same time, this economic development must also have a worldview and strategy that is in line with religious objectives (maqashid asy-syari’ah). The development of Muslim civilization requires the transformation of human beings and their institutions, focusing in the increasing of education and personality development, and the simultaneous mobilization of material, economic and technological resources for the rearrangement of community structures over the principles of deliberation and accountability, unity, independence and justice.

Abstract

As the capital city of the Federal Republic of Germany, Berlin shows shades of very thick secular life. Society perceives that religious or supernatural beliefs are not considered as key understanding the world. Therefore, religion must be separated from issues of government and public affairs. It simply seen as merely an individual problem. Inevitably the nuances of life, it will affect Indonesian who are followers of Islam in Berlin. They will be a challenge, especially the Moslem communities who interact with fellow Moslems in maintaining Islamic values is very rarely. In addition, it also felt the rise of individualism attitude that emphasizes life nafsi-nafsi among themselves. This obviously affects the religious belief that a bit much degraded in consciousness and its practice. To overcome this, Al-Falah Mosque Indonesisches Weisheitits-und Kulturzentrum (IWKZ) Berlin proselytizes enlightening discussion. These da’wah activities carried out can stem the influence of secular life faced by Indonesian who are Moslem in Berlin.

Abstract

Wahdatul Wujud or Unity of Being is a sufi doctrine that is in accordance with the well-known, inclusive and permissive views of the people of Nusantara. The teaching has proven to be an important part in realizing the peaceful and harmonious civilization of the Islamic archipelago. Unfortunately when orthodox theology doctrines which nuanced exclusive and radical dominated the Muslim intellectual discourse of archipelago, the doctrine of Wahdatul Wujud become excluded and even terminated from the stage of Islamic intellectualism of archipelago. This paper wants to evaluate critically the work of Ibrahim Kurani, Ithaf ad-Dhaki bi Shahr at-Tuhfah al-Mursalah ila an-Nabi which was written intentionally to explain the papers of Muhammad Fadhullah al-Burhanpuri entitled at-Tuhfah al-Mursalah ila an-Nabi Which discusses the teachings of Wahdatul Wujud that had been spread in the archipelago. This Ibrahim Kurani’s works is necessasry to be evaluated though it is generally accepted as the synthesis of Wahdatul Wujud according to orthodox theology, but  factually it has a very significant role in reducing this doctrine so that Wahdatul Wujud becomes a foreign doctrine in the archipelago. In this study the authors found some epistemological and academic error committed by Ibrahim Kurani to the doctrine of Wahdatul Wujud in his book. The author expects Wahdatul Wujud could be revived in scientific and academic discourse as a solution to counter the teachings of exclusive and radical Islam in order to realize a peaceful and democratic Islam as had happened in the history of Islamic civilization in archipelago.

Abstract

Islam is a source of civilization for its adherents, in accordance with the conception of the word civilization itself, which means the product of human life activity, whether in the field of politics, economy, social, education and so forth. So Islam as a religion, in its scriptures also gives clues about the things that are needed in human life, although it is not in the language of detailly. Enforcing the application of Arabic Islamic Shari'a into the society such as Indonesia, of course it will create feelings of alienation in religion. As an example is in the case of hijab for muslim woman (muslimah). Arabic or Middle Eastern dress models and veils are dark colors. If these models are used in Indonesian Moslem society, the wearer will look different and become strange in that society. Therefore it is needed to take a wise attitude in implementation the teaching of religion, so that it will be suitable with local culture that is already exists.

Abstract

Communication involves the actual use of language in real. As we have known that language is the main medium for communication. One of the important thing to develop the effective communication is by packaging the structure of information. There are two basic elements in the information, they are: theme and rheme. Theme had been considered as the known information and the rheme absolutely had been considered as new information. This paradigm based on the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). Halliday considers language as having three main functions: (1) the ideational function; (2) the interpersonal function; and (3) the textual function. This paper will focus in the textual function and “clause as a message”. Arabic language has a unique structure of clauses, we can find two basic notions (mubtada’+khabar) and (fi’l+fa’il), in the other hand, semantically, we can find (musnad+musnad ilaih), so this article tried to find the correlation between the structure of Arabic clauses with (theme+rheme) construction. This article also will find out the kinds of theme in Arabic language (multiple themes, clause as themes, and predicated themes). Theme as an initial element in SFL should be described by looking the rheme in the text. The method in this research was divided into three parts: (1) collecting the data from the book of Modern Written Arabic and also some articles in the Arabic-Javanese translation book Bidayah al-Hidayah, the data is the clauses with nominal and verbal initial; (2) analysis data, using the descriptive analysis and distributional method; and (3) reporting the data (formal and informal). The result of this article had concluded that there is a near connection between (mubtada’+khabar), (fi’l+fa’il), and (musnad+musnad ilaih) with the theme and rheme construction based on the SFL theory.

The Population of this research was the students of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty that consisted of 150 students. The method employed in this research was survey technique by using Likert Scale parameter. The result of the empirical research states that 37 items of the Tadzkiyatun Nafs instrument are spread out into five dimensions. The result of construct validity by using factor analysis proved that several numbers of items that have been estimated are 37 indicators with the value of > 0.30, out of 39 items, assuming that all items are estimated in accordance with the theory being constructed. The two other indicators are < 0.30 which then eliminated. The two items that were eliminated are item A4 on the Tauhid dimension, and point A11 on the shalat dimension.
